Impressed with the new UCS Tie Fighter

rampantsullyrampantsully Member Posts: 76
Went to the Lego Store in Gateshead to get the Sandcrawler with the 10% discount, and came out with the new Tie Fighter (never been able to make my mind up about Sandcrawler ) but was not expecting to be impressed by the tie fighter, but looked stunning in the flesh.

Can the fighter be mounted on the stand at different angles or does it have to be mounted straight up & down on the stand as shown/displayed on the box?

It's actually isn't straight up and down.  There is a slight backwards tilt to it.  The mounting design allows the TIE to spin 360 degrees on the mount, but there is no tilt function

one could fairly easily modify the stand to change he tilt permanently. Making it so the tilt is adjustable on the fly is almost certainly possible, but would require a lot more engineering in order to allow the weight of the TIE to not overwhelm the mechanism

I was impressed with the wing connection technique. The linking arms don't seem particularly beefy and yet they hold the not-insubstantial weight of the wings with ease - no movement, no sagging, you could swoosh the Tie around without risk of things falling off if you had the inclination to.

rampantsully: That's my local branch too, being in North Shields, and I also have the Sandcrawler - it is a great build and has plenty of features as well as a raft of minifigs.

I was hoping it would tilt.  I wasn't planning on buying it, but then thought displaying it swooping at an angle behind the Red 5 might have been cool.  I wish they had made that stand clear.
