Wow...I guess TLG officially has a Amusement Park theme going since there will be a Ferris Wheel set released on May 13th to VIP members. I'm looking forward to more information, and will likely grab one when they become available...

I'm surprised there are no pictures yet (or are there?) as it will be released in only 17 days.

That is one strangely shaped baseplate

Wow! The mixer did nothing for me, but that looks awesome. Easily on my "must buy" list.

That's not a baseplate by my view.  Looks like the thickness of plates to me.

If only it had an LED light component like this one...

It's nice, but I was hoping for a collapsing one to match the travelling carnival theme of the Fairground Mixer. Oh well...

10 minifigs?? This is a great looking set. Color me surprised....
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
The base appears to be 8 16x16 plates and one 8x16 plate.  Not sure why they'd bother making the middle portion narrower instead of just doing 3x3 grid of 16x16 plates.

I'm going to believe this will be $150 until proven otherwise ;)

My halfassed method of measuring based off the height of a minifigure in the picture puts it at about 19 inches tall.

But it's at an angle, and I've had a few, so grain of salt, etc.

If this is going to be a recurring theme, then LEGO needs to come up with some better carnie minifigures.  Maybe we'll get one in the next CMF series.

It's definitely the best Ferris Wheel released by LEGO. I don't think I will be getting this bring on the final four exclusive sets:

    #10248 Ferrari F40
    #70751 Ninjago Temple
    Hoth Echo Base
    #10249 Winter Toy Shop

It would have been more appealing if it was like this one by Pete Strege on Flickr:

#10247 makes me think of this ferris wheel:

That means if they ever did a proper roller coaster, it'd be $350+.

I mocked up the wheel assembly in LDD and it's about 46 bricks tall, which is 17.4". The height below the wheel has to be at least 5", and I'm guessing the cars are at least 3", so that would make it about two feet tall when a gondola is at the apex.

Personally? I'm not keen. It just looks wrong to me - I think because the spokes that hold the cars stick out past the final circle.

Scratch that. I thought the hinge bricks were 1x6 but they're (very) obviously 1x5.

I could see that.  And I'd likely buy that over a helicarrier.

Which I would promptly purchase (well...at least when double VIP points came along). Would love to have a roller coaster, with or without the rest of the amusement park sets.

By my estimate: the wheel (sans gondolas) has a diameter of a little over fifteen inches and sits at least five inches above the ground, and the axles holding the gondolas add another two or three inches on top, for a total height of nearly two feet.

I would really like to see some $10-$15 supplement vendor packs as well. It's frustrating that SO MANY KIDS will never get a chance at these sets because of the pricing.

There's really no way to make a substantial fairground set not be priced out of "so many kids" though right?  Yeah, the Mixer could have been the Mixer for $99, then add on all the ticket, dunk, stilts guy, etc. for $10-$15.  But with the Ferris Wheel, there's no way to modularize it down.

That being said, I'm all for the supplemental fairground packs, which we've (kinda) already gotten with things like the balloon and hot dog carts.  It'd be nice to have a whole slew of them though with lots of things like games, food stalls, pony rides, a petting farm, etc.

there was a winter village set which was like 3 or 4 stands and a merry go round. and the merry go round itself didn't look that big, probably would cost like 40-50€

I think the WV Market was overpriced by a bit though.
That merry go round was no where near 60-75 USD.
I would say that Merry go round was more like 30-40 USD and that is LEGO gouging I think.
While an interesting idea I'm not sure we will see little vignette type sets for an amusement park anytime soon (then again there is always LEGO ideas to submit such an idea to them).
My guess it would be a single set with 4-6 smallish carnival 'sets'/booths sets for 60 USD.

As a kid, I found the largest (and frequently the 2nd largest) set in a standard theme like Pirates was priced out of my range.  Never mind awesome things like the monorail or trains.  This isn't a new issue, as far as I'm concerned, and any frustration is long since gone despite never obtaining the expensive sets I desired as a kid.

To be honest, that's the kind of thing that fuels people getting out of the dark ages though.  Hey, I have money now, $100+ sets, here I come!

100€ + sets hardly existed when I was a child, except for a few technics and model team maybe.

I'm open to the idea as it is only one photo, but it looks like a Knex set with minifigures on it at the moment. I will wait and see what it looks like once advertised and reviewed.

How do you think this set will do once it retires? Should I stock up?
    (sorry, wrong thread...)

For this set, I think I need to see the designer video and perhaps in-person before I figure out how I feel about it? I can see things I really like about it, and things I don't like. That said, I would much rather have a LEGO ferris wheel that I kinda like, than not have one at all. Kudos to LEGO for doubling down on a nice family friendly, non licensed theme.

I wonder if there will be an uptick in Mixer sales now as a result? People are going to want the "first" release of this theme more and more as time goes on.

The Ferris Wheel set is kinda invisible to me, I don't say, "cool, or I don't say "yuk"....I just cant imagine myself ever buying it or having a desire to build it.   Actually, I'm not even sure I identify it as "Lego"....it looks more Kinex to me.  But for those who like these things, go for it.

I'm digging the Tower Swing Ride, looks to be this one.

Both the rides are also on the Fairground mixer box. I wonder what the chance of them ever been made is?

No power functions, I suppose. A bit of a bummer, but no surprise.
  • NikaliptusNikaliptus Member Posts: 27
^ I suspect it will be 'Power Functions ready' like the Fairground Mixer, which not long after the normal version became available to non-VIPs, had a limited release upgrade version with the Power Functions included (at a higher price than the Mixer without the PF, but cheaper than buying the relevant PF elements separately).

If they included the PFs in the standard version of the set, people not interested in motorising it, or those who already have the parts, would complain about the added cost of something they don't want, so better to release it without including the PF elements, but provide additional instructions at the end of the manual for those who wish to modify it.

Doesnt appear that it will be mobile, which doesnt line up with the mixer.  I was hoping for a "traveling" ferris wheel and future installments to the series.  Might be an odd setup for people who have a stationary wheel and mobile mixer?

^ It looks temporary in style so would probably fit fine with the mixer, even though it doesn't pack away. Personally I would have preferred it pack-away-able but can imagine that would be very difficult for a decent ferris wheel.

The Ferris wheel at the State Fair of Texas is a permanent installation but most of the other rides and attractions that form the midway are temporary/mobile set ups much like the mixer and are only in town for event.

Noticing on the box the yellow car at 10 o'clock.  Technic pins can be pretty friction-minimal, but I'm worried this thing will be a little jerky as the cars move around.
