^ It's all over the place where I am. Every Target and Walmart has a few on their shelves. Easily the oldest set they have now. I keep debating as well, but there are still plenty here.

I have a feeling the Batcave will be one of those sets retailers jack up to aftermarket prices...
  • Gavin83Gavin83 Member Posts: 251
In the UK I haven't seen a batcave for ages. Thought they'd already gone.
  • Farmer_JohnFarmer_John Member Posts: 2,405
^Saw a bunch yesterday at Wal-Mart. Unfortunately, they were marked at full RRP. I wouldn't mind grabbing one or two, but not at full RRP...
  • prevereprevere Member Posts: 2,923
Here in the states, we might see it (again) on clearance for $50 this summer.
  • rancorbaitrancorbait Member Posts: 1,842
There are still several Batcaves in stock locally, as well as several Helms Deeps, which I also hope to get a few more of for a bigger version.

Try Amazon.com for Batcaves. Works out to £120 for two if you still need them in the UK

Anyone in the whitby area u.k. ? Toymaster has #6860 on the shelf still
  • roxioroxio Member Posts: 1,384
My toymaster can be a goldmine when they finally clearance stuff, currently have PoP and #2506 at rrp ??!!

Picked up a #5887 in that shop last summer for £45.00, however they did'nt have a big enough bag to put it in, so I walked around Whitby for the day with it under my arm (Mrs. on the other). I bet it's the only Dino Defence to do the 199 steps :)

Our Wally World has the Batcave on clearance for a whopping g $4 off (so it's $65), and they've sat there at that price for over a month. I don't know when they'll drop again, but I don't think I want it that badly.

I chuckle when I see a specific set at my local Wally. Arkham Asylum ... an obvious Xmas return, it sat on the shelves for months, slowly picking up dents from children dragging it to dad, "oh please, oh please!". Now, it's officially become a pinata and has been ripped open on one side. Still it lingers...
  • YodaliciousYodalicious Member Posts: 1,366
^ I feel the same way. If it gets to $49, then I'll think about it more, but anything over $50 and I'm just not sure I want it. Two years ago, I would have bought it anyway. Now, I'm a little more thoughtful about my purchases.

6177 is definitely retiring at the end of the year. I can get you one for 27% off.

Just wondering what thoughts are on set #70724 in general? I found a pile at my local Target that were mispriced (I think) at $29.95 (think they should be $59.95). Bought 3 for trade; wondering if I should go back and get more at this price? Any constructive comments appreciated.

My hesitation would be that Ninjago tends to get heavy discounts in the holiday season on Amazon and that will probably happen with this line as well.
  • 12651265 Member Posts: 1,165
That's a pretty good deal. I'd buy several at that price...nice parts and figs. I need to check out my local stores to see if they have it at this price.
  • BastaBasta Member Posts: 1,259
Just about any set is a great deal at 50% off.

Except when you are talking reselling, if that's the case then there are lots of considerations that need to be looked at. For example it is not uncommon for a set like this to still be sellng for less than RRP years after retirement.

Well according to Amazon, they have 499 in stock. Or at least that's the maximum number I can add to my cart. Target and Walmart still have stock. I think it will be around for a little while longer even if Lego is sold out for good.

I'm not looking into the SSD as a solid investment. I think the DS is a better investment. I have heard so many bad reviews from people who have built the SSD.

I'm able to add 999 (Which is the maximum), I think it is a bit flakey sometimes. I will have to keep an eye on it as I was planning to wait till May 4th in case there was some slim hope of a discount. If Amazons stock gets too low I will jump on one, as they are the cheapest place to get one shipped to Australia.

Edit: Just went and checked TRU stock, as they had them although at $429.
Now they have it listed at $539.99 and only available in store!!

I wouldn't buy it for resale. I also think reviews are generally good. It is what is. The people picking on it probably don't even own it. Too bad it probably won't be on sale again unless Lego is holding them back for May the 4th.

I just noticed this. Did it go on sale at any of the brand stores?

Not since the crazy Target price drop way back two Decembers ago if I recall. Not sure on the recent TRU BOGOs if they were included.

Most recent sale was $399.99 plus a free Y-Wing at TRU.

From the item page or at the actual checkout it is just two I think. When you view your your cart type 999 in and if there are less it will change down to what ever that number is.

This is of course if these do not just pop back up for sale again at lego.com shortly. I do not see it as 'retired' only 'sold out'

Says it will be back in stock on April 10th on US S@H right now. I'm very pleased with my SSD as a display piece. Given it's "real" size (14 or16 miles long?), it's detailing is going to be limited in the city section.

To make pay the SSD would have to sell for $900 shipped. There simply is not the market for this set at that price to move any kind of volume. DS on the other hand....

  • FollowsCloselyFollowsClosely Member Posts: 1,381
All of my SSD where purchased under $300usd, a few well under. I suspect many others stocked up for the mid 200s as well. It will rise slow and I suspect it will take over a year post retirement to get cross the $550 mark. Three plus years post retirement to double the MSRP.

I am not buying any more DS, unless they are > 25% off.
  • doriansdaddoriansdad Member Posts: 1,337
As resellers we don't have the luxury of listing an overpriced lackluster set as "sold out" for half a day to induce panic buying driven by fear. If volume is your game I would skip SSD. Good luck.

The price is a joke for the SSD in the uk, it's $399 in the states which = to £240 uk pounds! But lego selling it in uk for £350, £90 more in uk then the states!

As we have said before, most sets can be a good investment if bought at the right discount. SSD at 20% is not a great investment. SSD at 50% or more is a different story.

Some sets you can buy at rrp and still make a good profit.
  • stevemackstevemack Member Posts: 934
I have my UK SSDs at about £240 each

As SSD keeps changing to "Sold Out" on the US S@H, I called LEGO and after some "further research" the rep reported that #10221 will be gone by the end of 2014 but that North America may not be receiving any additional stock other than what is now in stores and that is why they are not showing an available date.

FWIW, a quick check at Amazon shows >999 available.

I wouldnt say that figure is anywhere near accurate, figures seem to often quite random, but might be wrong of course. SSD is a funny one for me, it will be interesting see what secondary prices are like after it is sold out by all major companies. I grabbed 3 of them for £240 each some time ago and even then I was reluctant to stock pile. I think 3 will be my limit, its costly, harder to store and I dont think it will sell that well.

The Lego reps said the same thing when GE sold out 18 months ago :)

From what I gathered, Lego Shop@Home inventory is separate from Lego Brand Stores inventory. They don't use the same warehouses to get their sets from. Just because it is Sold Out at Shop@Home, doesn'tmean Brand Stores don't have tons of the set sitting on the shelves and/or in their warehouse.
  • timinchicagotiminchicago Member Posts: 239
What is also frustrating is that while #10221 may come back in stock, it could be after the double VIP points promotion ends.
    FollowsClosely
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258
@timinchicago If you really want it, keep an eye on it, because it may still fluctuate between "sold out" and "estimated shipping date." So of course if the Add to Bag button is there and you buy it, you'll get the 2x VIP no matter when it ships. If it ships.

My guess is the SSD is 'sold out' because of double points right now, just like I notice the Parisian restaurant is back-ordered
  • Farmer_JohnFarmer_John Member Posts: 2,405
^I agree with your comment regarding the Parisian Restaurant, but believe the SSD is gone because of more than just double VIP points. I think it's also that TLG is drawing down the SSD in preparation for EOL.

The SSD is definitely iconic to SW and I would like to purchase one; however, I'm not going to spend $400 for it (double VIP points only pays the taxes where I live). I can purchase two UCS R2-D2s, two UCS X-Wings, two modulars, two ...well frankly of a lot of good sets for the price of a single SSD. I do believe the SSD will appreciate once it's EOL'd, but I just can't bring myself to pull the trigger on it.

No, not at all. It was released in August of 2011, that would be almost three years ago! I stocked up in the fall of 2013.
