^ I think every first edition of any superhero minfig is likely to at least double rrp, and likely much more. Granted, Doctor Doom, Nova and Firefly heck, even J.J. Jameson are not A-listers, but with all 4 of them it's is a no brainer for appreciation.
  • binaryeyebinaryeye Member Posts: 1,831

Specular highlights. I love learning the actual term for something I've just known my entire life. You made my day.

I was going to use "pupils" because it's commonly used to describe the newer eyes. But it's so incorrect I couldn't bring myself to use it. Friends minidolls and recent Duplo figures have pupils; minifigures don't.

The problem with #76004 is that #10665 was just released and has two of the same three minifigures in it, for cheaper.

Yeah, but the one remaining, Nick Fury, is a big get for Avengers completionists. And, the Venom in the cycle chase has the backpack with spines, so technically it is unique.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
The parts to make cheap venom into expensive venom are quite cheap. So I imagine he will lose value.

Although not as much as the Simpsons will lose once the CMFs are out. Quite a few have gone on BL in the past day.

@wagnerml2 The Bugle will do go great, as Beetle and Nova are unlikely to see a rehash. A maybe on Doom and Jameson though. But even if, it will be a solid riser post-eol once the noobies are out of stock. And at $30, I would go all out on that stack you see.
  • brickupdatebrickupdate Member Posts: 1,020
@wagnerml2 There are three VERY COOL exclusive figures there. While I can see them making Dr. Doom again in another set, the other two (I think) won't see the light of day again for awhile. $30 seems like a deal to me!

I understand most would disagree, but I find the "specular highlights" to be a little creepy. I much prefer my minis without pupils.

I don't mind the specular highlights, but I do find the overbearing cheek, chin and jaw 'definition marks' to be completely absurd.

Anyone have any thoughts on the long term value of #76005 Daily Bugle Showdown? Found some on sale for $30 and picked up four. Wondering if I should go back and get the rest. I have traditionally not dabbled in the superheros, but lately they seem to be offering a better return.

I don't particularly care for that set, but the Dr. Doom figure has potential, as I'm not sure he'll be repeated any time soon.

No one is stocking up on GE? LOL! That is all I have been reading about people buying the last several months... "It's a sure winner..."

Sometimes I grow tired of reading about people's hopes for sets to retire just for resell purposes.

    Mehhh I digress
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
#6862 Seems to be a strange one, geographically. There appears to be plenty of stock in the US, with many on BL starting at under $20. Whereas in Europe and especially in the UK, minimal stock (just 1 on BL at £25).

Don't forget, 4/1 is creeping up on us. Be aware.

I can't believe TRU is still selling Dynamic Duo. ($60 of course), just high enough to wart off buyers until Xmas time I bet. Once TRU is out and this cycles through one holiday season, I still think it'll do well.

I have my shopping list already :-) PR, PC, maybe another PS or GE.
My GF is likely going to get the SOH..
I guess i should warn my Credit card to 'be aware'

I would like to get the PR, Maersk Ship, UCS X-Wing and maybe Metalbeard's Sea Cow. Of course TLG needs to offer me a carrot to spend that much coin...
  • Farmer_JohnFarmer_John Member Posts: 2,405
Apparently #21104 is now sold out. This one could do well since there were household/order limits, it was unavailable for long periods during the time TLG did offer it, and it was an unexpected sellout.

I was really tempted to wait for double VIP points, but decided to grab it early since it had been out of stock so much of the time. Glad I did since I like the space themed sets and won't have to pay an arm and leg to get it later on.

Is it really EOL? Seems too fast but of course you can never know. Maybe it will stay at Sold Out for a few months till they find time to manufacture another batch. Similar happened with a few other low importance sets as well so there's precedence for it.

Do you think? The only real exclusive CMF in there is Harley, right? You can get a Riddler and the Flash in #76012, and that Robin figure can be found in two other sets, right? Maybe it's a draw because of the POV of it, but I'm still thinking of just picking up the Harley by herself...

^ Not for nothing, but any full-suit Harely is a get. Such a major Batman character and only 2 (arguably 3) minfig representations is a shame. And while the Riddler himself is not unique to the set, the representation in #6857 is unique to the set. And c'mon, who couldn't use an extra Riddler head?

I doubt that it is EOL. This set has been in and out of the Sold Out state a number of times and quite frankly there are loads of them at the Discovery Center for the duration of those so call sold out time which will also give you 5% off if you show them Lego VIP card. I think it will do well since it is a NASA item but to think that it is EOL now is a bit stretch.

Other than the scuttlebutt from TLG customer service reps telling customers that #21104 (a set with a limit of one per household) isn't coming back, I find it interesting that historically this set has been listed as back order without the option of ordering it unless it was available. Now it's just listed as "sold out."

Anything is possible when molds, resin, and cardboard are available, but it might be a good time to grab one if you're interested and can find one reasonably priced.
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996

    ^ Not for nothing...

    Aaron Sorkin? Is that you?

To the Funhouse... I have a couple, but I'm not expecting it to do amazingly well. I felt like the Batmobile set (which was available for roughly the same price many times) was a better bet, and it seems to be performing better at the moment, though that almost certainly has much to do with TRU still having stock on the Funhouse.

Ahh, so not LEGO stores but discovery centers.

My impression is that Funhouse Escape #6857 will do well in the aftermarket. It has so many CORE character in one set - three main villains, plus Batman and Robin. ZERO filler. Plus, the Joker and Riddler were just redesigned for the 2014 sets, so these versions won't be available again. Plus, it was a pretty reasonably priced set. I can easily see it double in value to $100, garnering folks a nice profit.

That said, I am definitely envisioning Super Heroes running into the Star Wars problem: as the years go by, we will get LOTS of Jokers, even if they are different versions. Not a problem from a fan perspective, more from a reseller perspective.

^ I find that annoying ever from a fan perspective... I'd rather get several unique figures instead of several similar looking Jokers. At least if they made them very different from each other, like the new penguin, not just a slight update of the same minifig like the one in Arkham.
  • prevereprevere Member Posts: 2,923
Too bad there are no "sequels" to sets, only rehashes. A "sequel or add-on" to the Funhouse Escape could expand the building and make for an actual funhouse.

^ I have long thought it would be great to expand the Funhouse into a complete, demented carnival like the ones seen in the old Batman Animated series.
  • doriansdaddoriansdad Member Posts: 1,337
I sell a tonne of funhouses overseas to dealers where it is no longer available. There are huge numbers held by resellers but the sell thru rate is off the charts. Once TRU runs out of stock it will do well. The issue is I have heard TRU has the stock to last thru 2015 so be warned.

Has it ever gone on sale at all? I check every few weeks, but I haven't seen it drop at all.

I managed to pick up some Funhouses from TRU.com online about 6 weeks ago when they had $15 of $75 or something similar. Paid $56 AUD each delivered which is pretty good considering this set was $89.99 here. The set was only avaliable at TRU localy and not in any great numbers. They currently sell for close to $100 plus shipping.

Just noticed it is available on the website again (it had sold out not long after I had purchased my copy's), when I got mine they were $42 each with a limit of two. Now $59.99 limit of 4.
  • BuriedinBricksBuriedinBricks Member Posts: 1,367
I love the Funhouse, but I have to admit I'm wary. My local TRU still has dozens on the shelves. The 50% markup likely means it will take forever to move through them.

^Yeah something like that, I remember seeing that MOC in a video I think. Isn't it full of Power Functions too? I was thinking more along the lines of building up the roller coaster using some of the curve narrow gauge tracks from the AC Mothership and then adding some booths or other small bits around. My budget couldn't handle even one of the scenes in that monster. It is awesome though.

Problem is, for some unfathomable reason, there are no straight narrow gauge tracks, only the curve and dip, so it's really difficult to make any kind of actual layout with them.

Whether the set is actually sold out, will be back in stock, etc. it is still a lot like Minecraft. I don't understand why the set is so limited by LEGO. Can only be purchased from lego.com for the most part, then only in stock in spurts. Course, the set won't be as popular as Minecraft, but a feeding frenzy will still be created. The set will easily go to $100+ if the supply stays limited.

When will #6860 Batcave retire? I'm debating weather or not I should pick one up before it does, it will no doubt be hard to find those minifigs for a decent price afterward.

^that is the question, it is retired on all S@H sites excluding North America. I haven't seen one in a store over here for a couple of months.

Last time I looked Walmart & US S@H had them in stock, as dose Amazom where you can add the max of 999 to Your cart. So looks like plenty left in the states.
