Yes, it states on wiki it superseded the Nasa Crawler.

^^mocpages - bucket wheel excavator, and no, I don't know how to do a link.
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
There have been a number of land vehicles bigger than the Shuttle Crawler, even a few in the US such as Big Muskie and The Captain (by any measure - weight, size etc). And obviously a number of ships that are way bigger, although I think not as long as the F60. The bagger's at least though aren't self powered so do they really count?

I have an old 1980s Lego Systems Space Port poster of a brick-built Shuttle Launch Crawler. It was never a set, but it's an awesome poster. I'll try to get a pic of it and post here.

^ Yes, but this is More Ginormous!

A full-size replica 797 is the centerpiece of the Caterpillar museum in Peoria, IL. It's massive. The tires are ~13 feet (~4m) in diameter (and cost something like $50,000 each). There's actually a small theater inside the truck, where the bed would be, which I believe holds ~70 people.

Come on. You know MB quality sucks. I could see that machine being needed for destroying Lego but any 4 year old with a plastic toy hammer could destroy MB =)

They are actually quite tough. The quality is low as they don't hold together once built. But individual bricks are strong.

This article says that it's used for strip mining. I don't think anyone thought it was a back scratcher. :-)

It's a cross-pit spreader used to remove the lignite seams from the earth to be burned in power generation plants. They have these near Mt. Pleasant, TX. I think the ones in TX were manufactured in Germany, to the earlier point. They backfill as they go and replant everything, so there is no scarring. In fact, the land where this thing has been is always in high demand for purchasing by farmers, etc.. You'd never know it had been there... The spreader is a site to behold...and would be the ULTIMATE Technic set!

This to me is what is both impressive and commendable. Getting the job done and at the same time making the effort to design and build something that basically cleans up after itself isn't something you see every day but is sorely needed.

The other thing I read about recently that I really liked is the tree moving truck that has a 3 or 4 "shovel" arm that will dig up and move fairly large trees for relocation. Should be used at pretty much every construction site instead of cutting everything down and planting new growth all the time. Not that planting more isn't a good idea as well.

^^ Yup that is it. Would love to see something like that designed in LEGO, even better if some of the proceeds from the sales of it went to a tree related non-profit. Would be an awesome gesture on the side of TLG.

No freaking way! I can hear my wife already..."Honey, can you move the 50 year-old oak tree in the back yard to the front yard this weekend? I think it would look so pretty there. And when you're done with that we need to relocate the hedgerow to the other side of the yard. I think the neighbor is a peeping tom." Yada, yada...

Yard work would become as schizophrenic as a shoe shopping extravaganza!

    ^ he he

Yeah, I typically aerate my lawn once a year. It costs about $60 to rent the machine. I have often thought - "I know I only use this thing once a year, but I've already paid the cost of buying one in all the rental fees over the years. If I had my own aerator I could aerate other lawns for $50+ a pop and the machine would pay for itself." Then, I use the beast for an afternoon, wear myself out, and suddenly change my mind! What was I thinking?! :-)

Any thoughts on the Big Ben #21013 going EOL? Seems like one of the more expensive architecture sets vs. RRP everywhere but TLG.
  • JamesJTJamesJT Member Posts: 440
    edited January 2014
^Architecture sets stay in production for longer tham most themes and there several sets older (and probably way less popular than BB) which should EOL sooner.

Will #9474 be £200+ by Xmas or are there just too many in the hands of resellers?

It's been retired for a couple of months now and is still struggling to hit RRP consistently. Also plenty around for under RRP as you pointed out in the Toys R Us thread.
I think it will be a slow gainer but will eventually be a good earner, if you want your cash tied up until Xmas 2015.

So #9474 (helms deep) is now hitting roughly 150 USD on eBay. One sold for as high as 184 and free shipping on eBay and #9471 (Uruk hai Army) is hitting 40 USD, Not bad considering they were on sale a lot, most sets just EOL'd and most who bought bought these sets bought on sale.

However, #9472 is only around 60.. weird since those have the Ring Wraiths in them. Guessing TRU having them on Clearance for 55 for was long as they did has not helped. #9476 is hovering at 55 at eBay. and #9473 kinda all over the place, I have seen them sold at 89.98 and 75 and 60.

So it appears the sets that are related to castles in LoTR line will do well, but anything else may be hit or miss, at least in US

You could also get them at WM on clearance for $40. I passed up a bunch at that price. Didn't seem worth it at the time.

I'm wondering that, too. It's not a must-buy for me, but I'd love to have a Bane and Jim Gordon. I also wish I had a Tumbler Batmobile, but that's not going to happen, I don't think. Hopefully I can snag it at a cut-rate at some point.

Or people are just that ignorant.. I swear many people cannot figure out there is a LEGO site for buying FROM LEGO directly.
Unless you are getting buyers where buying from you is cheaper than their home country, which is possible.

Yeah, obviously people in Australia/NZ etc are always buying Lego above MSRP, but recently I've seen increased action on GE and PS. Maybe just a fluke, or people nervous buying because of FB.
