    Speaking of Walmart's. The ones around me are loaded with 9449 Ultra Sonic Raider. I think that may be the new 2506 Skull truck, although it does include a nice array of figs. I think each wave is going to have it's overpriced mutant vehicle that is slow to go. I'm thinking the Garmatron or whatever it's called for the new wave.

    They are really going to have to drop the price on the Raider to get it sold. Boy is that thing ugly. Looks like something from Mad Max or the Ice Pirates.

    The reason they have these in stock is because they're not EOL like the rest of the line. Raider, Mech, dragon battle, byte cycle are all in stock most places around here.

    9449 might be a bit expensive for what is in it, but it has one powerful feature that no other set has.

    It has all 4 Ninja's in 1 set (Jay, Kai, Cole, Zane)

    Not even Epic Dragon Battle has that.

    Of course it doesn't have Lloyd, but then what does! :) (besides EDB of course)

    Yeah I have not seen it in my Walmart since it was on sale for $109, 3 or 4 weeks ago. I was so used to see it with $119 discount sign that I stopped paying attention until they were gone

    Slightly OT, how does one know when Amazon puts a quantity restriction on something? I went to buy a 3rd 10212 and got an error saying the quantity is limited. Nothing on the product page, so I was just wondering if there is a way to tell before going through the transaction process.

    Also, is that quantity a daily limit, a weekly limit, a forever limit??? Thanks.

    9449 is supposed to be the good guys' vehicle, but on first glance it does not look like it. The first time I saw it I thought it was new variation of the many skeleton related vehicles from 1st wave.
    One look at 9441, 9442, 9444 you know they belong to the ninjas, not so much 9449.

    Hey I just had a thought, if you buy 9440, 9441, 9442, and 9444 you get all 4 ninjas for only $6 more than 9449. Plus, if you buy the encyclopedia, for $11 more you get Lloyd as well...
    Now I see why the ninjago minifigs are selling so well on eBay... :)

    :) Yes, but 9449 can still be purchased for less than retail, while the others are mostly gone from retail.

    I understand that. My point is that none of the Walmarts around me have had 20+ of any of the Ninjago sets sitting on the shelves, hardly moving at all for weeks except for this set. On top of that, Christmas is a week and a half away. My point is that it just does not appear to be selling near as well as the rest of the line.

    Weekly I think. Or you can create another Amazon account I guess.

    You know when Amazon.com puts a restriction on it when you go to checkout more than 2. After confirming your shipping address. It will give you the infamous message 'your quantity has exceed the amount available for purchase...' or something like that.
    As for how long it lasts I think it can vary... I know that there are times where it seems like a month before I can buy something again that was 'limited' by Amazon for purchase I guess it also depends on if there is a sale going on on the time as well

    Typical. I was lucky enough to grab 1 for 97.99 plus 10% off when they were on sale. There were 3, but 2 were not "mint". Perhaps I was being too picky.

    I will take non-mint Falcons for $97.99, they will still sell for $200 when retired, mint or otherwise. :)

    Now, back on topic, and I know it has been discussed at some point in this lengthy thread, but does anyone have any insights or thoughts on the retirement of the first wave of DC/Marvel sets? Are they going to be on the typical two year plan, or will some of these go earlier?

    I haven't paid much attention to them since my kids aren't really into them, so I don't even know if there is a "2nd wave" coming or not.

    ^ I expect these will fade away from shelves throughout 2013 as they stopped getting restocked at most retailers in favor of using the limited shelf space for the newer waves. Same with LEGO brand stores. However, they will likely (on the whole, bound to be item by item exceptions) continue to be available inside TRU and online at most major retailers and [email protected] throughout the year.

    Super Heroes Sets...I think these are flying under the radar right now because we haven't seen them on clearance very much, nor have they appeared on the newly "retiring soon" list. And it's best to categorize value by Super Hero. These could easily just disappear in earl 2013 when wave 2 hits.

    Batman & Spider-Man sets - definitely good investment. (Highlighted by Dynamic Duo). You just can't go wrong on any of these.
    Avengers - most will be pretty solid
    Superman - because of the figs - this set is really good
    X-Men sets - below average returns
    The "bionicle" type figures - just stay away from (except Iron Man)

    My 2 cents.

    ^I'll be curious to see which way the Wolverine set actually goes. X-Men consistently outsell every other title out there... but I suspect that won't translate into aftermarket sales until there's an X-Men themed wave.

    Broke down and bought a "like new" IS for $180 from Amazon. They're long gone now.

    I was thinking along these lines as well. If that happens, resale should be good. I started thinking about it as I was trying to find the Superman set and was having difficulty at retail stores. To @dougts point, they are readily available online though.

    Similarly, I was going to pick up some Zombies sets only to discover they have simply vanished.

    Will be interesting to watch.

    If you could buy MISB sets at what works out to be 4.3 cents a piece, would you?

    I'm talking about the Cars #8679 & #8639 which obviously have been bad resellers. I know at the price im paying I can sell them for a profit but I think they will move slow and I'm worried the price could go even lower.

    To bad there were no people in the "Cars" world so they could have added minifigures to the sets.

    IS was in my Amazon Gold Box for 199.99 so I picked it up. Unfortunately Gund Bears are gone and I don't have an Amazon VISA so couldn't use the TOY20OFF. Still, not bad.

    I swear when I bought the IS the 2012 Gund Bear was only available from a third party seller, not Amazon, and it wouldn't allow me to apply the promotion. Now when I pull it up it of course says available from Amazon.

    Actually Gund makes some very nice bears, if you haven't received one of these free bears yet, they are very soft and nice, I'd easily expect to pay $15 for one in a retail store.

    Found some Dino Defense HQ's at Barnes and Noble, but didn't seem like they were selling for that much on EBay to really make it worth it.

    I was kind of kidding. I forgot to add one to my cart earlier today (was rushing to get my IS order placed before leaving work). I'm not even sure my order was applicable. Anyway, we have about about a dozen teddy bears laying around for the kids to play with. Would I take one for free? Sure, why not. I just don't quite get why people are so excited about them except for the fact that it's free.

    That's what I'm thinking.. After fees and the hassle, theyll have to go up in price considerably before I'd buy them.

    The Deadpool minifigure could really impact the value of this set IMO. He seems to be coming into a peak of popularity with comics fans. There's even a Deadpool video game coming out in the new year, with talks of a film in the works too (though that doesn't appear to be fully green-lighted yet). If there isn't another Deadpool minifig made, this could be a real winner (and he is a peripheral character relative to most other Marvel minifigs to date, so that's not beyond the realms of possibility).

    I wasn't a fan of the latest MF, there were some daft little things wrong that could have been done better at the same pricepoint. The mandible size and shape was quite a bit off. I also looked at it and compared it with the UCS MF that I was dying to get bricklinked. As a kiddies toy it is great - solid enough to be swooshable, plenty of minifigs (although none of them really rare), lots of playability.

    I bought 2 thinking there would be a lot of common parts between it and the UCS MF (there weren't!), but I did only pay £66 each for them. As the MF seems to be out for a while and then take a significant break from the SW roster (unlike the X-wing), along with it's evergreen desirability as a ship in the SW world, I think they'll do quite well before the next incarnation turns up.

    ^ I've already started giving them away.

    My postman has a 10 year old daughter, so he got one. My daughter's friends each got one, etc.

    Ok, I can't write any of that off, but it made for nice gifts. :)

    I'll give 10 to Children's Medical Center and 10 to Toys for Toys, then probably the rest to family and friends.

    My own daughter will probably keep 4 or 5 however. :)

    Just managed a nice result down at the discovery centre in Manchester. Managed to get a shuttle expedition and whilst picking it up noticed a couple of QAR's. Bagged the 3 for £290. Thought I had missed the boat on both of these as they went pretty sharpish.

    On the topic of Superheroes sets, I'm thinking that 6862 might end up doing well in the aftermarket because of the minifigs, but was wondering what everyone else thought. I did see several still in stock at my local Target today, although Walmart had none at all. Not very impressed with the superhero sets that look like action figures, but maybe kids like them?

    ^ While I agree with you that the minifigs in that set are good, the rest of the set is really just a Bionicle/Hero Factory figure.

    Will kids like it? Perhaps. AFOLs? Probably not.

    I think I have 8 or 10 of them on a shelf, but that is just because I like to have 8 or 10 of everything, just in case I get surpised, not because I think it is a great set.

    In this case, they were BOGO50 at B&N plus member rewards plus $10 gift cards, so my net cost on them was about 40% off.

    At that price, I'll take a flier on any set LEGO makes, but I'd never pay retail for this set.

    Ya, the smaller sets had the best figs. Superman, Wolverine/Deadpool, and Iron Man were all in small sets. Black Widow was the only fig I cared about in the bigger sets.

    I beg to differ. It's a neat set, probably my personal favorite of the superhero line. It may not do gang busters in the after market but it looks great and the minifigs can fit in with just about any city themed set.

    Not exactly related to the topic: I could see some ingenious people modding The Mine set to resemble the junkyard showdown from Superman 3 between bad Supes (just dirty him up a bit) and the Alien Conquest business man (Clark Kent): http://www.brickset.com/minifigs/?m=ac004

    Before anyone disses Superman 3, you have to admit that scene alone is probably the coolest from the entire series of films.

    Just wanted to get peoples thoughts on the Architecture sets? I ask as I see that #21009 Farnsworth House has been out for over 3 years now, and its still available from [email protected] I wonder if this is because they haven't sold well or if its just that as these are targeted at Adults and the subject matter is somewhat timeless, I would assume a lot of non AFOL adults would get these and although sales would be slow I imaging that they are steady.

    #9446 Destiny's Bounty
    #8070 Super Car
    #8109 Flatbed Truck

    #9446 and #8070 are no longer is stock online anywhere in the US as far as I can tell. #8109 is sold out on Lego.com but still available at TRU online.

    My apologies if these have been recently discussed- I did a search but didn't find much within the last couple of weeks or so relating to the US market.
