The same way that it works on the Wii U...with a LEGO Dimensions gateway...I don't know what ports it has but it at very least has a USB c port on the screen unit.

Amiibo are are the only toys that are read by the Wii U controller. Also the 3DS had a wireless amiibo reader unit that can be bought separately.

As I said I've not seen anything about Dimensions being released for Switch, but I see no reason why it wouldn't get a Switch release.

Does anybody know if there's another Dimensions character that has Ravens powers ? Trying to do parts of the game that only unreleased characters can do is...err...difficult.

^Like getting through that wall in the subway right? XD I had trouble with that too. My Boy LOVES Teen Titans, so we can't wait for that pack for a couple reasons. ;)

@LEGO_Dad77  I think we were trying to get a gold brick on the Gremlins world. Im guessing we needed to make a portal on a wall whilst using a giant laser but Chell can't do it only Raven, at least as far as I know ?

As soon as my son saw the Raven picture come up he was a little bit excited ! So yeah I reckon we're in the same boat as you guys :-)

@Shib  Please correct me if I might be wrong about the Switch, but from what I've seen in the videos and the press, it seems like there's no USB port in the dock, and that Amibos and Skylanders are scanned from the controller itself. How would it be possible to have multiple Toy Tags being scanned and run at the same time? I myself am also buying it later on in the year, so I'm just wondering.
The USB port is literally in the dock (there's a door on the side).

The Brick Fan reports of a possible exclusive Dimensions product in Loot Crate.
    http://www.thebrickfan.com/lego-dimensions-to-be-included-in-february-loot-crate-box/

Also, there are a couple of images of the next build combinations, like Knight Rider. Finally, TLBM Batman is exclusive to Target and Knight Rider is exclusive to Gamestop. :) hope this helps.

The Loot Crate item will most likely be either the Supergirl or Green Arrow poly - most likely Green Arrow.

That would present a problem, but not an insurmountable one. They could potentially make a version of the Toy Pad that could communicate wirelessly with the Switch, which would not only compensate for the lack of ports on the dock but would also allow the game to be played on the go (portability being one of the system's main selling points).

Ah. To be honest I'd kind of prefer a wireless toy pad anyway (since if I to re-buy the entire starter pack to get the software anyway then at the very least I'd appreciate some added functionality).

there was a "story" on brickstolife about this potential release and one key thing that they pointed out was that whilst amiibo and skylander just use a portal, the Dimensions portal is more involved in the game play and so could well be problematic. the full article is here if anyone wants to read it: http://www.brickstolife.com/nintendo-switch-lego-dimensions/

again with b2l, they posted an updated story, linked off of reddit and it has an update. one of five items will be in the standard crate and no mention of anything in any of the other crates. i'd have expected the DX or gaming crate to have a figure or something but the only one with Dimensions in is the standard crate.

Seems no one has mentioned,  99 cents only store in CA, TX and AZ has some of the older Dimension Fun and Level Pack for 99.99 cents,

So far,  I got Homer Level Pack,  Portal 2 Level Pack,  Bart Simpson Fun Pack and few more

Most people mention they saw Chima,  Lego Movies and Simpsons

Supposedly they planned for three years initially, so in theory there's at least another year of planned content.

Yes. Though I'm not some official source.

Oh, and to save you any trouble...

...don't say that around anyone from Eurobricks as most of them are in the most childish denial I have ever come across on this fine internet. They have absolutely no sense of how these sort of things work.
I think some of them will be in tears should they find out this game is dead (hypothetical) and most importantly (apparently) that there would be no more Doctor Who packs to make the game "better" (as apparently that's all that matters).

I think it will go into a third year as planned, but it might be lighter.....I notice this year that it is spread out more with fewer sets released at a time. I think they are trying to get some into the summer.....if you recall last year the last releases were in May. I also noticed as a teacher more of my students are buying into in now rather than when it first came up.....which is a pain for downloading all the new content at once from what i hear, but people are enjoying it. I wish there were some hard and fast numbers on sales, but from what I see is the game is doing okay. Some newer sets are sold out (which makes sense as they appeal to those who play the game as well as those who just want the minifigures, as more are unique this year. Personally, I hope the game continues as my family enjoys it quite a bit, and I as a collector like a lot of the throw back minifigures we would never have gotten otherwise. Gremlins would never have seen the light of day if not for this game (do we really want Gremlins seeing the light of day though :) )

This mirrors my own view, I like the game, but for gameplay would prefer it not be toys to life, however I appreciate that the TTL approach has given us a load of licenced minifigs we otherwise wouldn't have.

i think the difference for year two is because there is still a lot of year one stuff available- first year they needed a lot of characters available to boost the roster.

Personally im still hoping for more Hana Barbera stuff - a couple of Wacky Races packs would be very welcome and really fit the game style!

When packs are essentially getting "pulped" at dollar stores, things aren't selling well. I'd be surprised to see Season 3.

@flord - that's not happening in the U.K. Here the "poor sellers" have been reduced as low as £5 - at a retailer that is known for reducing stuff low and was only really Chima & LEGO Movie ones.

Also I don't know how true this is in other countries but in the U.K. the video game market basically runs by having a high launch price and discounting fairly quickly to get more out of those that just can't wait for a discount

I'd be more surprised if year 3 was cancelled than year 4 being announced. I think there will jut be more strategy to production numbers - year one was always going to be a testing ground for that.

If you look at what is on sale it is basically the figures you could get in other places.....Chima...Ninjago...Lego Movie...LOTR.... The only odd one out is Portal seems to be at the 99 cent store......I don't think it means the game failed over all...but it does mean a change in strategy in what is released...which I think we have seen. I think the game would have been stronger with more exclusive sets up front, but again as was mentioned you needed a lot of characters to get the game started. I still think we will see the third year, but maybe not anything beyond that.

@dannyrww i like the idea of exclusive figures but they should be exclusive to the game, not exclusive to some sort of promotion or specific console with only a limited release or availability. look at the debacles that surround supergirl and green arrow.

Personally in my area (Ohio) the cheapest dimensions we have is at 5 dollar stores, and even that selection isnt huge. Perhaps the 99 cent is the exception not the rule?

That is what I meant by exclusive (like Gremlins).......I hate the fact I still can't get Supergirl without buying  a new starter pack for a system I don't own. :(

I'm torn about what I want for the future of Dimensions. I love the game but not sure if I want to be spending money on DLC indefinitely, although it has given us themes we might never otherwise have seen represented. If it was coming to an end at least I'd feel like achieving 100% was a possibility.

So far,  what i saw or able to get is

All three Simpsons, Bart,  Krusty Fun Pack and Homer Level Pack
All three Lords of the Rings Fun Packs
All of the Lego Movies set ( only get Benny and Unikitty)
Back to the Future Level Pack (didn't see the doc Fun Pack)
    Portal 2 Level Pack
    Dr Who Level Pack
Some of the Chima Fun Pack (only saw two for me)
    Ninjago Fun and Team Pack
    Jurassic World Team Pack
Scooby Doo Team Pack (never see it myself)

    Same here with @bsiu922

Chima - Eris, Cragger (haven't seen Laval)
Ninjago - Zane, Nya, Wu, Team Pack, Jay (? can't remember if I've seen him)
Lego Movie - Emmet, Bad Cop, Benny (haven't seen Unikitty)
and all the ones he mentioned except I haven't seen Scooby, JWorld, BTTF level nor fun pack

What's weird is the DC Super Heroes are not part of these shipments: WW, Cyborg, Aquaman, Superman...I didn't expect Bane, Team Pack to be part of it since they're newer.

I would be interested. I'm in the South Bay.

But let's just see if you can get your hands on one yourself.
With these limit restrictions, I can only imagine that it's going to be easier to get some of the harder packs.

I think what you are more likely to see is a completely new game and new toy pads. Dimensions has made money for TLG I gotta believe that, the clearance money was likely built into the profit table up front over a very long term sales plan, since that money comes out of TLG's pocket. They account for it, and if you factor in how expensive these packs are in the beginning? They gotta make buck.

So will there be a Dimensions 2? Maybe. The development costs have got to be incredibly appealing. There can't be very much new tooling money, game development costs would be easier to manage as the games are not breaking tremendous ground...I dunno, might happen, be interesting to see.

We're not going to see a Dimensions 2 until at least 2019. There are rumors that we might not get a third year of Dimensions due to poor sales, but if that turned out to be the case you can be almost certain that Lego and WB would not be anxious to create a sequel based on the same business model that had failed them the first time around. Meanwhile, if we DO get a third year it is likely to use the same base game—not only because they pledged to do so for at least the first three years at the game's outset, but because developing a full sequel it is likely to be a costlier endeavor than simply continuing to expand the current model for all three initially planned years. That's not ruling out a sequel to Dimensions farther down the line (particularly if the game is still regarded as successful when the original consoles the game was produced for have all been upgraded or otherwise phased out).
  • ShibShib Member Posts: 5,459
I don't buy the stuff being sold on clearance means poor sales, it often means poor stock control.

How many times have people posted to the effect of "China was a flop because the sets were constantly reduced " while ignoring the fact that City (one of LEGO's biggest sellers) sets are almost always available at significant reductions too.

I don't know what the .99c store's stock model is, but I've known discount stores in the U.K. that work by buying old stock from other retailers and particularly scooping up liquidation stock whenever a big name goes bust.

I think a lot of the excitement around Dimensions has gone down, but without someone showing me clear sales data (which frankly no one but TLG will have the full picture on) I see no reason to doubt the theme has done well enough.
