    So.....

Did Michael Keaton & Tom Cruise sit down and record lines for the game? :P (Melissa McCartney:D?)

Will the fun, level, and team packs from Year 1(2016) be retired after this September?

I saw the E3 interview yesterday with the Dimensions team. The interview itself was a bit lame and really didn't tell us anything we didn't already learn from last Thursday. There is a huge IP list though that I wish would get stolen and leaked to the people. If this happened, maybe just maybe we could heavily influence year 3.

I heard Tom Cruise doesn't allow his likeness in toys so I'm guessing it's a generic MI minifig and not a Tom Cruise version as such.
  • PicopiratePicopirate Member Posts: 325
In one interview, they stated that the MI clips are taken from the movies but Tom Cruise is signing off on the work.  I can't remember which interview.  It was one of these two.  On a side note, maybe it is the accent but the first few times I heard these guys speak, I though they said each pack would include ballerinas.

Here is a third interview if anyone is interested.

I saw that the other Adventure Time pack for this year has been listed as Marceline on Brickset. Not sure if that's confirmed though. I'm guessing this is what the figure will look like...

    And maybe this alternate face?

Well that's the game and all level packs, worlds completed now. 480/480 gold bricks collected. Roll on September and more levels.

So...with the new multiplayer battle arena coming...any chance Brickset will be holding tournaments? Competing is fun, no?

Might be hard since the Battle Arenas, like the current co-op multiplayer, appear to be local multiplayer only (in other words, no online play). So outside of Brickset meetup events I don't see how any sort of site-wide tournament could be held.
  • Legopassion8Legopassion8 Member Posts: 1,181
I read up on the arenas. Didn't catch the part bout LOCAL multiplayer during E3. Guess I was caught up in Gizmo.  I did see the Sonic pictures floating around though.

Anyone up for a bit of speculation?

Since the E3 stuff I've been thinking through what else LEGO Dimensions might bring, here are my picks broken down to categories:

    Existing IPs:

Hanna Barbera - given the inclusion of Scooby Doo and some hidden level elements and HB having just rebooted a lot of old series in comics published by DC, I'd be really surprised if there's nothing else done, my picks are:

Flintstones - Bedrock already exists in Dimensions and the series definitely has the pop culture status to sell, even in spite of the dodgy live action films ;-)
Jetsons - Basically the same rationale as above
Wacky Races - this one's more of an outside shot, the comic reboot is more like Mad Max but the original cartoon lends itself great to the dimensions standards.

    Valve - this is a tricky one, to my mind Potal was the strongest series to choose, having attended a lot of comic con type events Chell certainly seems to be the most popular character they own. I'd put an outside shot on one other pack;

Half-Life - To be honest I think this is a real outside shot, the series is something of a niche but does have existing crossover to portal so could be considered but I really doubt it.

    DC Comics - In all honesty I think that the first wave covered most of the bases, but there are still characters that could potentially appear as safe sellers, we already know about Supergirl and Green Arrow so other potentials;

The Flash - Seems most likely to me, Gamer Kid introduced speed skills, I assume Sonic will also have speed skills so it's an easy rosta fill.
Batgirl - Little bit of an outsider but probably the most recognisable female DC character to not yet feature.
Green Lantern - Would be another character like Aquaman in so much as there's an easy unique skill to include

The Wizard of Oz - Potentially going out on a limb with this one, but I have good reason. It was one of the biggest surprises of the launch and received a lot of press as a result, IDEAS has shown there's at least some interest in more and the upcoming CMF Dog Show judge's dog recoloured in black could be perfect for Toto. Also it makes sense to add an additional gold based character to open a WoO battle arena. I'm thinking we could get something similar to the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot pack with an Emerald City base build.

Simpsons - Seems less likely to me that we'll get much more but perhaps a Lisa fun pack to add a battle arena more than anything else.

Doctor Who - Another toughie, there's a lot of source material to draw from, in the UK it's very culturally relevant but think elsewhere less so. Given how big the Doctor's role was in the story though it seems a shame to miss out on a battle arena. My pick would be either a Missy/The Master fun pack or something like a Sontaran fun pack.

    Sega - Given we only know about Sonic so far it's difficult to speculate too much on other stuff but there's a lot of choice;

Bayonetta - Not one I'd particularly be after but is cross platform so could happen.
Golden Axe - If it weren't for the midway arcade pack I'd consider it too obscure but holds a lot of nostalgia for gamers
NiGHTS - likely too obscure outside of Japan.
Phantasy Star - Again likely too obscure but could yield some interesting results
Space Channel 5 - I don't actually think there's a chance of this but think that it would be funny as hell if it happened.
ToeJam & Earl - Would only be possible for nostalgia, likely too obscure

While there's potential in some of the other existing stuff I think it gets less and less likely, as much as I'd love some more BTTF minifigure I don't think it's likely, so to the fun stuff, other potential IPs.

    What's really interesting with Dimensions IPs is that they don't need to be current so there's a lot of possibility. What is apparent is the attempt to pull cross generational iconic characters and franchises. Looking at what's already known can look a bit like there's not much else to source from, until you really start to think. I'm going to steer clear of any Disney properties despite DIs end I think we won't see any possibility of Disney characters until Year 4 at earliest. Obviously there are a lot of potential licensing issues etc but here are some of my thoughts;

Pacman - Retro gaming doesn't get more iconic, Namco have licenced the character out to other games in the past so it's possible, because t there has been Pacman K'nex sets which might have a licence blocking issue.

Godzilla - Huge cultural icon, ok a lot of the films are rubbish but the latest reboot wasn't too bad and leads me too...

King Kong - there is a film in development set in the same universe as the 2014 Godzilla film which is due to lead to a crossover film. Everyone recognises the Empire State Building scene, definitely a cultural icon.

Sherlock - Given that there does seem to be a correlation between IDEAs and Dimensions this came to my mind as a good match to Doctor Who, I don't think it's a certainty but I think it has a good chance.

Final Fantasy - I'll admit this is a bit of wishful thinking, but FF7 certainly has enough of a following to get some headlines and like Sonic and Pacman, Final Fantasy characters have crossed into other games.

Tomb Raider - a gaming icon, the latest take on Lara seems to have been met with a lot of praise and could easily fit the game.

Shrek - Instantly recognisable, easy to write in, perhaps not as iconic as some Disney characters but definitely still a strong fan base.

How to Train Your Dragon - Ionix have made construction toys of the series but if they don't block it it's a very popular series with all the typical merch and tv spin offs going for it.

Halo - Another with an existing construction toy licence but an instantly recognisable gaming character that will sell well in the gaming market

I'd love some Nintendo stuff but given their tendency to avoid their stuff being on other consoles I don't see it happening as it goes against the Dimensions crossover style.

Wow, that was more of an essay than I'd intended

I never watched Buffy, but it certainly has the kind of following to make it a contender. I do have a longer list of potential IPs but it's potentially endless.

    Streets of rage
    Strider
    Turrican

SEGA has pretty much.been reduced to just sonic amalgamations now. I am way out of touch with games now so don't quote me on that.

    Imagine if Capcom.get on board.
    Megaman
    Street fighter
    Final fight
    Darkstalkers

    SNK?

Then there's Return to Oz, a crazy film, nothing like it's prequel.
  • ShibShib Member Posts: 5,478
I also considered Capcom with Megaman and Streetfighter as potentially the most likely of their franchises. Megaman would probably fit the Dimensions standard better than street fighter though.

another potential ip I'd like to see used; Bill & Ted, their phone box could work on the same platforms as the TARDIS points.

  • dannyrwwdannyrww Member Posts: 1,394
Bill and Ted would be awesome and would fit the spirit of the game. It would be a classic 80s property that parents can introduce their kids too and leads to ironic comedy dialogue with other characters such as Superman. the Doctor, and Back to the Future. Bill and Ted would probably be on the top of the list of likely candidates.  Never Ending Story and Labyrinth are two others I would love to see.
  • ShibShib Member Posts: 5,478
I really dislike never ending story (which admittedly I only saw for the first time a couple of years ago so no rose tint on it for me) but could see it working well for dimensions.

I also think that if there is any chance of getting James Bond in LEGO, dimensions is the only way it's likely to happen. If it weren't for the more modern bond films I would give it a good chance but the later ones are perhaps to gory. How good would a story pack with Bond minifigure, Classic Aston Martin and Little Nelly mini builds be?

I would like Bill And Ted, rodger rabbit, terminator, blade runner, Indian Jones, tron, Alf, ninja turtles, Magnum pi, muppets, thundercats, smurfs, tailspin, and dukes of hazard.  Those would scratch just about every 80s itch.
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,730
^Tron would be an excellent fit. Would make a great level area and provide minifigures and tron gear that probably wouldn't get greenlighted as regular system sets.

I'd love to see Lego Tron as well, but seeing as it's owned by Disney it's 50/50. They might let it go to test the waters with Dimensions without affecting their current film merchandise plans too much.

Personally I really want Inspector Gadget to show up in series 3. Being a 80s cartoon checks all the right boxes and his array of gadgets would be a blast to play in game.

I don't think Bond would be any more unlikely than Mission: Impossible though. That one would be near the top of my list, too. But question is, which Bond would they go for? I guess whoever's current?
  • ShibShib Member Posts: 5,478
The problem with modern bond is it can at times be gory, Skyfall turned into a gory version of Home Alone to me, admittedly I've only seen the first Mission Impossible and it was quite some time ago. The classic bond films tend to fall into a milder age rating and Connery tends to top most polls on Bond popularity so I'd expect more of a Connery looking fig than Daniel Craig/whoever's next

Bill and Ted, with the phone box, would be awesome. I think we won't see any Disney / Marvel until phase 3. The difficult part will be getting the lawyers to allow marvel and dc to interact and play nice together... I long for the amalgam days again ;)

Okay Bill and Ted.......Team Pack with the phone booth, Bill and Ted, and Station (the martion) who can built split, stacked on eachothers shoulders, or joined together. The Rufus with a level pack and perhaps a variation on the phone booth...maybe...they could follow a format similar to Doctor Who where you have to change things in time.

As per the front page article - first image of the Fantastic Beasts story pack has been shown in the new Argos catalogue. Very happy with the £39.99 price point, given that the level packs RRP at £24.99 and these have six times the content (in theory anyway).

@Captain_Cravat and I were at the Lego Star Wars force awakens game panel today at celebration and one thing that was asked after the panel was about making the green arrow fig available to people outside the us. The only thing they could say was they were trying to make this happen as it was a frustration we didn't have it. They couldn't elaborate further, so I guess keep eyes and ears open...

A vampire queen, aye?  Does she bite people on the show? I mean on the game do you believe you'll be able to kill on-screen enemies by biting. I'm not familiar with Adventure Time. Vampires on the other hand...

@Legopassion8 it's a bit wierd, she doesn't drink blood, ah just drinks red, so she'll suck the color out of an apple or something. I think she can bite people, but she doesn't want to kill people.

There are also other vampires who do kill people and she hunts them and when she kills them, she takes their power. The post-apocalyptic vampire lore in that show goes quite deep.

I think if she could take powers from others that'd be pretty neat for the game.
