I'd say you should experience it once for the celebrity and spectacle. I prefer Chicago's C2E2 or NYCC for a "purer" comic fan experience, as SDCC has been overridden with Hollywood and unrelated things the past few years. Not that I don't enjoy that, but my main goal is collecting comic art and memorabilia, and SDCC is the most crowded and expensive option for that.
To just go and nerd out is worth it. A few years ago I saw Scott Pilgrim with the cast as a surprise before it premiered. Edgar Wright appeared at the panel and marched us all down to a theater for the film, then a concert with Metric. Also two Harry Potter fans got in a fight over the Twilight line and one got stabbed in the eye with a wand.
Gotta say I might give this one a miss, especially if the price doesn't drop. The last one was great for AFOLs like me because it was all 80s/90s IPs, it was everything I grew up with. This year it sounds like it's almost entirely targetted at kids of the 00s bar perhaps The Goonies and Sonic to some degree and I really have no interest in any of those IPs other than Harry Potter, The Goonies and Sonic.
I guess it depends what else is going to round it out, but it sounds like they're probably beginning to scrape the bottom of the barrel a bit now with IPs. No sign of the previously rumoured A-Team unfortunately.
I guess we'll know for sure later in the week, but I'm inclined to put a lot more faith in leaks this close to the announcement being true. I can't see myself spending as much as I did last year to try and get 100%, and as I'm a completionist that likely means not bothering at all unless there's more to announce beyond those listed. I don't even know what Powerpuff Girls or Teen Titans are, and the new Ghostbusters basically looks like a complete flop from it's trailers alone, not that it ever had much hope. I've heard good things about Adventure Time, but have never watched it, so it really wont mean anything to me. Never really was much of a fan of MI either, always found it quite dull.
Mostly it'll probably just be a question of whether the wife makes me get it for the Harry Potter stuff given how much she liked the previous HP Lego games, but even that really depends on how much content is spent on HP, and how much is spent on the new fantastic beasts stuff. I might buy the Goonies stuff just for the minifigs then and that'd probably be it, but here's hoping there'll be more than this to it come Thursday - maybe some new DC stuff at least so that it's not a complete washout.
Harry Potter, Powerpuff Girls, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Teen Titans were all icons of my generation, they're all the subjects of a lot of nostalgia, and from what I've seen they all remain at least marginally relevant with kids today (though most people I know who grew up on the original Teen Titans and Powerpuff Girls cartoons have generally not been fond of the recent reboots of those series).
Adventure Time is the only brand among these rumors that didn't exist in some form a decade ago, and while I still haven't gotten into it, it's proven massively successful with all ages, accruing seven seasons and over a dozen awards as of today.
I will agree that Mission Impossible would be a little bit "out there". It's a series with a lot of history but I've managed to go 25 years without seeing a Mission Impossible movie. It's not that I think it's BAD, it just… never interested me.

At this point, all that we know about the Connectables is that they are supposedly smaller than the Fun Packs.
Super Girl/Red Lantern has also been reported to be available in an updated Starter Pack.
There are also some odd rumors that include the PowerPuff Girls, and confusion with the Gremlins being The Goonies instead. That is, of course, if these are IPs that will appear later in the games 2nd Year.
I'm also quite surprised that there haven't been any rumors on Lego's in house IPs like Nexo Knights, or perhaps a couple residual Ninjago packs.

LEGO Nexo Knights packs would seem like a no-brainer — it's easily just as big an IP as Ninjago or Legends of Chima, there's no shortage of characters, vehicles, and abilities to draw from, and it caters to a sizable demographic of boys ages seven to fourteen. Maybe they want to give it some time to develop and prove itself before taking that sort of risk, though.
I can understand there not being new Ninjago characters, because they've already got the seven main characters represented, and that's a lot of characters for one franchise, licensed or not! So I can't imagine they'd be in any hurry to do packs of secondary characters like Skylor or Ronin. We might see more Ninjago packs to tie in with the LEGO Ninjago Movie in the second half of next year, but until then I wouldn't count on it.
I'd love LEGO Elves packs, but a girl-oriented theme might be seen as too risky, especially since Elves is a much smaller theme than the other in-house IPs they have represented.
If it were the Flintstones it would've said FS or something similar.
I think Elves could be a really interesting addition, it fits in a similar position to Ninjago just less obviously conflict based, there are obvious magic skills that could be used in game.
I'm now curious to see the next announcement, if the gremlins stuff is genuine that could be great fun as a level pack, I'd predict one of the builds as the little toy sports car.
There's absolutely no doubt that Lego isn't just primarily aimed at kids, certain products have been clearly aimed at AFOLs, and the last round of Dimensions was most definitely one of those products. Not just any AFOLs either, but the demographic that is far and away the largest spending demographic on video games, and that is most likely to be willing to pay for Dimension's inflated prices. That demographic was clearly targeted incredibly specifically with the last round of Dimensions, given the franchises they opted for, and it seemed to pay off. It's not just TLG doing this, it's the whole entertainment industry, this is precisely why we've had Jurassic Park reboots along with Ghostbusters, Transformers, and yes, the A-Team. The entertainment industry knows where the money is in reboots and reviving products, and it's not with IPs aimed at kids old enough to remember much born in the mid 90s/00s right now. I imagine your turn will come next decade.
So sure, they could refocus this round on kids of the 90s/00s, but I'm not sure who they think would pay for it because they have been so screwed by the financial crisis that they're stuck in a perpetual cycle of being unable to get a mortgage and paying excessively high levels of rent, coupled with high levels of unemployment for your age brackets, and increased debt from inflated university fees. Thus, A-Team isn't even remotely scraping the bottom of the barrel like Powerpuff Girls whatever that is, it's sensible targeting at the demographic that is most able to afford Dimensions, just like they did last round. If they move too far away from that the product will fail, because whilst you may love it, you (or at least those of your generation in general) ain't gonna be able to afford well enough to keep it viable.
Thankfully the list I saw and mentioned yesterday seemed to be only partial, so it seems there will in fact likely be more 80s themes including things like Gremlins, and the A-Team, and that hence it will still continue to be targeted at the same demographic as before. I'm still surprised however that there's no new DC stuff.
Anyone who thinks Lego primarily aims all it's products at kids neither understands Lego's product offers, nor business in general. There's money in nostalgia and that's been a key element of Dimension's success. You'd simply never find enough parents willing to blow the money necessary to keep it viable were it not focussed so heavily on those independently financially secure, yet still young enough to be brought up in a world of video games (in fact, I'd argue that's why including Midway was actually so relevant last round - they knew exactly who their target market was). Lego is a shrewd operator in the market and isn't naive enough to simply focus at kids and only kids, it knows where the money is and plenty of it's products are specifically targeted at older demographics (and plenty are indeed targeted at younger groups still too, Dimensions just isn't one of them). That is in part why it's so damn successful in the first place.
That said, nostalgia does sell. Parents control the pocketbooks and are more likely to buy something they recognize, more so if they can share their own childhood experiences with their kids. Lego may be moving to the best 90s and 00s franchises available because kids from that era are now having kids. The franchises may not be as strong, but it's better than ignoring that age group.
One franchise I'm surprised Lego hs not picked up though is phineas and ferb. It is immensely popular with just about every kid I know.
I would not be surprised if even if the full A-Team franchise doesn't get packs that the van may be the mini-build for Mr. T. Actually, that's the biggest reason I think A-Team won't be represented by any packs beyond that one—if it were, surely Mr. T would be labeled as "AT1/2/whatever" instead of getting his own one-of-a-kind label.

Mission Impossible looks like it is based on the first film, which I did really like. Haven't seen the more recent instalments.
Harry Potter is as expected. I doubt we'd see much new in a Dimensions pack, I'm still hopeful for a revival of the line as a whole next year (alongside Fantastic Beasts sets).
Know nothing about Adventure Time but it looks quite fun and quirky. I don't own the game so I just pick up packs with interesting builds or figures and these might fall into that category.
I can't wait to see Sonic (still play that on my 3DS sometimes :-))
I like the look of the Ghostbusters story pack and am really really hoping for a Wizard of Oz one with an Emerald City build .. but it would only come with one figure :-(
It is driving me crazy that Lego has seemingly acquired the licence for Oz only to pretty much ignore it. They rejected the Ideas project which led me to think a set was in the pipeline but still nothing! What gives, TLG??
Also, all the teasers seem to refer to the announcement today being "BIG news" or a "BIG mystery". The capitalisation of big seems to be a hint but I can't for the life of me guess what! A big fig? It had better be "big" news seeing as they are hyping it so much!
After hearing about all the hours spent waiting for updates to download, I'm hoping that when i do get round to getting it, most of the bugs will be sorted with one big update and I won't have to much trouble with the game (wishful thinking probably).
I have been collecting a few of the packs as and when i see them at reasonable prices to spread the cost out a bit (I am sooooo glad I am not a parent with a child that wants all of these).
The new sets look really good and definitely appeal to someone of my age bracket, but will have to wait until they get down to sensible prices before I pull the trigger on any of them.
I am hoping that they carry on with the no exclusive figures/content so certain packs don't become unobtainable (be interesting to see how the Supergirl and Green Arrow figures are marketed).
And Glinda too if I'm allowed to be that greedy.
A problem I have with just collecting some of the packs for the LEGO is that the builds are just like polys - not substantial enough to want to display. The minifigs are more desirable but then if they just do one it equally makes no sense. The Mr T pack is the perfect example. Even with the van, I wouldn't want to display BA on his own without Hannibal, Face and Murdock. The van is cute but would never be displayed. It would go in a bag in a drawer and forgotten about. Give me a van similar in size to the Ecto-1, a plinth for the 4 characters and I'm buying it.
Goonies, Gremlins and FB confirmed? Will the five mentioned expansion packs for these IPs be the rumoured "Connectables"? If so, colour me disappointed, with the exception of FB.
