Yes. The details in that article are all speculation, but the set itself is definitely coming.

I hope it´ll be different compared to the 2011 version which I have. Different minifigs and new features. BTW though they call Ewok Village UCS in the article, it officially isn´t. So not very sure this set will have that kind of features. For me it´s fine as I already have the playset version, now I only need a display version.

Wasn't this rumored when the 2015 large set list was announced?

Nice! I Have been skeptical about Ewok Village since the beginning- this should be awesome! At the very least, I'll have a place to put my snowplow :)

Now I know what my VIP points are going on at the end of the year. Sounds like a great set, love the Ewok Village and the older Echo Base so really looking forward to seeing more details.

One thing I have heard is a possibility that while this is going to be a fairly big set, it will include the same micro-figures as the Helicarrier instead of regular minifigs. As far as I know this is just a speculation at this point, but it's definitely a possibility.
  • ShibShib Member Posts: 5,459
I can't imagine the nanofigs being used in a playset type set. I know that the UCS label issue gets thrown around a lot but id imagine this to be similar to the Ewok Village in size, if they ate doing a playset that size to nano fig scale then it'd look pretty odd. The only both scene I can imagine in that scale is the battlefield but that would likely be a mess as a set.

Anyone remember the old Kenner microscale sets with the small metal figures?  Honestly to really convey Hoth that would be the best way to do it -- large brick-built shield generator and ion cannon, plus base, and then a bunch of microfigs with smaller at-ats and snowspeeders.

Though from a playability perspective I would much rather have something at the same scale as all of my existing AT-ATs and snowspeeders!

If they focus on the exterior, this would be a great companion to the set from a couple of years ago, which was all interiors.

Please no micro scale figs, and a Hoth base set in micro scale.
    I really don't like that.
I prefer a minifig scale set with 20 minifigures similar to the DS, Endor, and sandcrawler sets.

It would be quite nice to have a Ralph McQuarrie minifigure, who made a brief appearance in one of the hangar scenes.  I'd quite happily pay £350+ for a Hoth set if they did it properly; one that could fit a system-scale Falcon.

It would be nice to get a Yavin IV base for a change. Hangar bay with X-Wing or Y-Wing, control room with Death Star readout, ceremonial room... General Dodonna minifig to round out the ceremony characters. Galoob did it well.

Or a Rebel Transport. That would be so easy to do as a playset. You could put whatever you want in there. It's just an empty shell.

Ummmm this could be a really nice model, a few ships, maybe a walker attacking the base and a base itself, but I have to say we have been here before, with so much Hoth stuff already out there Lego could have gone elsewhere, Cloud City being one place, Degobah being another. I get the major battle play but what else could lego give us we haven't already had?

I am sure I will get this as it will be a size and scale I like and if the finish matches the Ewok village I am sure it will look fantastic, but maybe it is time to visit other planets in the galaxy far far away?

What doesn't make sense is that they will release this Hoth set right when the current AT-AT and Snowspeeder retire thus driving up after market values and feeding the reseller horde.

    @mathew
    You think so?
The current AT-AT #75054-1 & snowspeeder #75049-1 were just released in the second half of last year (at least in Europe, and according to the Brickset database in France and Germany only this year).
They are (next to the advent calender set from last Christmas), the only Hoth SW sets I own, and although I have not seen any other Hoth SW stuff from 2013 or older around in shops here in NL, I have seen plenty of other pre 2014 SW Lego around in shops, mind you always at full RRP. Seems to me that some SW sets will be around for at least two years.

Anyway I would love to get my hands on an DS or Endor Village size Hoth Echo Base set. I would love to see a base with: a huge big spring loaded Ion cannon (the surface canon sticking out of that metal ball, taking out a Star Destroyer in orbit over Hoth); a command centre (with a unique female minifig communications officer, there was a female in TESB operating/monitoring all the speeders on hoth and spaceships in orbit/evacuating right?! not sure if I remember correctly); medical centre with bacta-tank with underpants comatose Luke minifig, and those two medical droids; some cozy living quarters; a stable for some Tauntauns; a speeder for cargo, and or personnel inside the base; a snow-speeder maybe too; some tunnels. A bunch of exploding play features, so the base can collapse onto its self. A large surface-defence turret Laser cannon that can explode. A trench along the outer wall, for some Rebels to hide and shoot back at the attacking Imperials. A big blast-door high and wide enough to fly a snow-speeder through or have a Tauntaun with minifig pass underneath.
Some sort of huge snowy ice mountain play/display set you can fold open, to reveal all sorts of equipment (repair bays, heat generators etc), and machinery (excavation drilling equipment with which they dug out their subterranean lair) for the base that forms an enclosure big enough to feature as the hangar, in which you might put down the Millennium Falcon too (I hope they release another version of the set too some day).

Minifigs: Luke; Lea; Han; Chewie; R2D2; C3PO; two medical droids; a couple of rebels such as soldiers, mechanics, pilots, officers; an Imperial Probe droid, a couple of snow storm-troopers; wasn't there another protocol droid in the movie like C3PO, greyish white or red?! that was left behind. And two Tauntauns. I already got that general Rieekan minifig in my advent calender, so it would be nice if they included some other officer(s). It has been some years since I last watched the original trilogy, but I don't recall any non human alien rebels present on Hoth (except for Chewie), so I don't know which other minifigs TLG could or should include next to the ones I just thought of.

There are many combinations of minifigures that Lego can include in the UCS Echo Base. Imperial Probe Droid with Snow covered Han and Chewie. A couple of Snowtroopers and Rebel Soldiers. FX-7 Medical Droid and R3-A2 (orange R2 Unit). Including a Toryn Farr minifigure would be a great opportunity for Lego to include another female Star Wars character. She was made into an action figure recently; why not a minifigure?

Toryn Farr, heh, at least she had a speaking part.  While we're on a roll, here's a few more obscure choices for promotion polys - wait, is this the right thread?

    Nalan Cheel
    Willrow Hood
    Davin Felth
    Valcath Stand
    Saelt-Marae
    Tycho Celchu
    Ysanne Isard
    Ponda Baba
    Orrimaarko

Quick, guess the one I made up without resorting to the intertubes :)

The more I think about this the more this could be good. Forget about echo base as the only scene, there is the wampa cave, probe droid encounter and Han rescuing Luke (with ghost Obi Wan). With the base as the fulcrum the other scenes could hang off it and we end up with a Death Star styled set. That way we would also avoid more large vehicles making up the piece count and have only a snow speeder or two but a good number of troopers and cannons, taun tauns and a wampa etc.

actually quite excited to see images in a few months, although I still maintain we have seen a lot of hoth over the years.

@hoyatables, oh, those microscale sets take me back - I had the power generator and the turrets ones, always wanted the ion cannon but never found it.  To this day it looks slightly 'wrong' to me in ESB that the power generator building has four of those upright disc structures, when the toy had three...

I'm curious to see what they come up with - a full-size Echo Base 'super playset' style set a la Death Star would be impressive (top marks if they include the wampa room, with a sign for 3P0 to remove), but I wonder if it'd work the same way?  Spherical was the obvious way to go for the Death Star, and magnificent for efficient use of space and being able to see all the stacked levels at once from the side - Echo Base would have to be a more horizontal arrangement, could it do that and still include everything?  Maybe if it were a kind of half-and-half arrangement, separated by an ice wall with the big hangar door in it and ion cannon up top - on one side tundra, with trenches and turrets, wampa cave off in the corner, some empty space for Han and Luke and Gutsy the taun-taun, on the other side 'inside' the mountain the base, with the back of the ice wall supporting a multilayered arrangement.  I'd rather than that something you had to open up to see the interiors - I appreciate the effort in the insides of sets like the big starships, but those sets are models to me, the interiors don't much factor into how fondly I look at them.

@TheLoneTensor, since binaryeye got Valcath, I'll pick Davin Felth.  I recognise one or two, and a few others are "I'm sure I've heard that name..."

(My pick for an exclusive would be TK-421 - which would just be a guy in his underwear with a bruise on his head.)

Kenner made a version of the "open belly" TaunTaun back in the day and it was pretty cool. If LEGO could pull that off, it would definitely make another Hoth set worth the purchase in my book.

^ I think you will be pleasantly surprised how well the old Kenner Star Wars holds up. My parents stored mine in an uninsulated attic for years and most things aged well. The only exceptions would be that the stickers lost their stick, my X-Wing yellowed and the foam from the Death Star trash compactor dried out and broke down. Other than that, just like LEGO from the same era, good to go.
