Terms and Conditions in store is still not showing anything sensible, and although you can now register an account, I have no idea how to link this to the subscriptions I had to use a guest account to order.
Getting any response from anyone at Bricks is still impossible.

Still no response to my email enquiring about resetting my password (well not being able to) and I have had no email to tell me where to download the digital issue? Still, no news is good news......

Does anyone know who the "specialist retailers" Mark mentioned they were in talks to stock the magazine in his interview might be?  As at present tracking down a physical copy at a brick & mortar store feels like my best hope of obtaining the magazines!

I, too, find it disturbing that there is no communication regarding my digital issue purchase other then the initial email confirming the buy.  How hard can it be, with respect, to provide access to a digital download, or, if they are experiencing problems, to let customers know this and put minds at rest regarding money spent?

Received my paper copy today. First impressions of it physically - a more premium product. The perfect bound spine and silk paper are real nice.

As for the content, well I'll have to read tonight and make judgement thereafter.

My paper copies of both Bricks magazine arrived about an hour ago - wow - so many interesting articles to read!

I too find it strange why there's been nothing said about the digital edition.  Maybe @Huw can shed some light if he's heard anything?

I'll see what I can find out.

    Many thanks

Mark has access to the inbox now and is going through the messages. I'm told the digital copies have been finalised and will be released very soon.

Come home to discover both print copies on my mat when I ordered the digital versions. I don't mind having these but I'm worried I've received someone else's copies!?

Thanks Huw, I have just had an email from Mark to say he is trying to sort the password reset with the tech people.
  • RoskoboyRoskoboy Member Posts: 128
Interestingly, @Drone, I have also received the paper version when I ordered Digital.  Nice quality and not complaining...hopefully their communication lines will get better.
  • AndyPolAndyPol Member Posts: 410
Just got home from a few days away to find both first issues on the doormat. Both very good quality and the content looks good, although having been back an hour, I haven't had a chance to read properly. Still no word on the digital anyone? (not that I need it now)
  • MrGudzMrGudz Member Posts: 210
    Haven't heard anything yet.
  • yuffieyuffie Member Posts: 92
So has nobody received a digital copy of the magazine yet?

Surely these should have been available on day 1.
  • AndyPolAndyPol Member Posts: 410
Just noticed on the Bricks twitter page and copied here for you....."We've had a little issue with the digital versions of both Bricks & Bricks Culture, we apologise for the delay, the issue is nearly resolved" It was posted about one hour ago.

Has anyone registered an account online and appear to be logged in to the wordpress admin pages? http://store.republic66media.com/wp-admin/

It won't let me do anything, but it seems a bit odd.

No lock symbol, I'm a little unsure whether I should be adding my address etc details.

Just noticed the post from Bricks saying that UK postage is free until the 30th of April, however it doesn't say how much it's likely to be after that - anyone have any ideas what it might be? Just working out what the pluses/minuses of subscribing are.

    Thanks, Peter.

  • AndyPolAndyPol Member Posts: 410
Despite the apparent lack of answers for various things, I assume that those of us who subscribed have now received at least their print copy? Rather than focus on the continued negatives, which will hopefully be resolved soon, what does everyone think of the magazines? I think they are very good and the articles more focused (as we hoped) on the AFOL as opposed to the casual reader.

    Over to you all......

I have subscribed, but not received anything.  But I am in the USA.

    Me neither. Belgium.

I really like it. All the better for being AFOL orientated.

I got my login for the digital version (after getting the print copy last week). I'm pleased I've got the print version. The digital version uses a web based viewer which isn't very easy to use or read on my iPad.

I also have the login details for the digital version and I'm quite disappointed.  The web viewer was not what I was expecting the digital version to be.  I hoped the digital version was portable and searchable, like a PDF, to be viewed while commuting without internet access.  Rather, internet access is required to view it.  Useless to me.
  • AndyPolAndyPol Member Posts: 410
I'm glad I subscribed to the print edition, because if you are going to need the Internet to look at the digital version, it's going to be pretty useless to me. I thought it would be a downloadable mag that could be stored on your tablet. It also means that you will lose access to them if the server holding them goes down. If what slyreptile says is correct, then it's another poor decision.

I got my password for the digital edition but it doesn't work. Not a great start. Still no physical copy (to Ireland).
  • MrGudzMrGudz Member Posts: 210
Think I'll order the print version next time.

Got my login/password for the digital version of Bricks. Still no print version (USA). There are several pages missing from the digital version - pages 22, 23, 48, 49, 102, 103, 106, 107. Pages 48-49 are corrupt - this link may require a login but didn't appear to... [LINK DELETED]

I'm writing up a review I'll send to Huw in a few days.

The picture you linked looked OK to me.
Incidentally it appears to be possible to read the whole magazine, without restriction, in this way. It looks like someone forgot to set the security permissions on the folder where the files are stored...

True; and some of the missing pages can be found that way; but there are still a few others missing.

We've passed the info onto Mark for action.

If anyone's still after a review, I've written a fairly extensive one for Bricks on my blog (Bricks Culture will follow shortly).

TLDR version: It's good, but I'm not sold on a subscription yet. Will definitely be buying Issue 2 though. Unless I'm missing something, the digital version is currently a bad joke and should be avoided.
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,120
That's a great review with a lot of points that can be acted on to improve future issues. I'll make sure Mark sees it.

    Thank you.

I decided to get a 2 issue Culture subscription last Saturday but no hard copy or mention of a digital edition yet.

Is it possible for someone to post scans of a few pages from Bricks Culture and Bricks magazines so I can get a taste and feel of what I'm getting myself into before purchasing them.
  • XefanXefan Member Posts: 1,148
Probably not unless they want to get told off.

But it wouldn't hurt for the people behind the mag to put a reasonable sample online though officially as honestly, the reason I buy Blocks is because I can see it in store and pick or choose whether I want to buy it before I head to the till. As I can't see Bricks I won't touch it. I like to know what I'm paying for before I stump up the cash.
  • AdeelZubairAdeelZubair Member Posts: 2,710
Exactly! I will try and contact them to see if they could send me some samples.

I have yet to receive my hard copies.   I have been able to browse through the digital editions though.  I like both, and I think I like the 'Culture' one the best.  If they can keep this theme going, and expand upon it, I think it will be a great magazine.

There were some page scans on their website under 'Latest News', but they appear to have been pushed out by subsequent articles.

I've yet to look through them properly, but Bricks Culture looks great, and I'm really enjoying the interview with Chris McVeigh. The rest of the content looks just as promising and I think it could well be worth subscribing.

Bricks I'm less immediately sure about as, like the reviewer above, I wasn't that sold on the theme of the issue. However, I really need to give it a bit more attention, and will be getting issue two regardless as there's enough in there generally to interest me. Whether it will replace Blocks is still up in the air...

@Adzbadboy it was hard to find as it isn't linked from the front page, but here are a few samples: http://republic66media.com/2015/04/05/a-taste-of-bricks-to-come/ I just went to http://republic66media.com/2015 and that gave me a list of this year's news postings. IMO, If you like Blocks then you'll like this too. I think Bricks Culture is the best of the bunch. So far, the main difference I see between Bricks/Blocks is that Blocks has more articles, but Bricks covers each article in more depth. Both contain too many reviews, IMO, but the review style of Bricks is more to my taste. Overall, I felt that this month's Blocks was a slightly better read than Bricks. I have a hard time quantifying why, but I suspect it might be the motion theme that tipped me away from Bricks. I need to think about it more, because both mags are excellent with different articles, all of which were very enjoyable. ... ...and I have no idea why my blank lines are not showing...

Still says processing on my order :(.
  • slyreptileslyreptile Member Posts: 15
Looks like the username I used to subscribe back in March is no longer valid and my order information is gone.  My email account is now linked with a different username (the one Bricks setup for access to the digital subscription) and this account has no order history so I have no ability to determine order status.  I've yet to receive my paper copies and am not sure I ever will as I subscribed before they changed the terms to require shipping to the US.

No access to account anymore, no answer to email, magazines not delivered. Sick of waiting, have done claim with Paypal.
  • BennyBenny Member Posts: 28
I ordered a digital copy of both bricks and culture, received an email after 3 days with login details etc, got digital copy of bricks (not heard anything about culture) and found it unreadable, kept changing pages when trying to zoom in.
Ive received an email today telling me (basically)the digital platform they launched on is no good so I can have a full refund or a paper version for postage cost only ( which was s free as I'm in the UK)

I have just checked and "they" (who ever that might be, appears to have changed my username?! It is linked with my correct e-mail address, but when I go into it, the password needed resetting?! When I now log in on the username they have linked to my e-mail, there is no delivery or billing address and I can't find a record of my subscription?!

I don't know who is running the website, but considering the responses here, no one seems to be reading anything. Again, IMO, this magazine has been set up with very keen LEGO AFOLs, but not ones with any business accumen....

At least I have the first issues of Bricks and Culture, but as they appear to have reset and destroyed my account on the website, who knows if I'll get anymore?

I will copy this and e-mail them, but I don't have any hope..
