I think no matter what time Target releases their promos; there will be people that will miss out. I know lots of people that work night shifts and all sorts of crazy hours. I get up at 4:25-5:25 most mornings because I have very early clients,so even if I was in the West Coast, I would have still had time to purchase the promo. If I was at work, I would excuse myself and take a bathroom break to make my purchase. Bottom line is: The die hard fans would find a way to purchase the promo; whether they had to set an alarm and get up early, refresh their apps regularly, stay in touch with people "in the know", keep checking social media and/or the forums or whatever else you have to do. If the promo is that important to you, nothing should really stand in the way of you purchasing it when it becomes available. I can't tell you how many times I've stood in line in front of stores early in the morning on cold rainy days to get newly released items; whether it be tickets, exclusive store promos, video games, autographs...you name it. If it's that important for you to have it, you will do what you can do to obtain it.

Back in the day you had to get up and go to the store and stand in line, and then hope they had enough stock by the time your got in the store.  On line sales, regardless of the time is a whole lot easier....eve if you have to purchase from a reseller, plus if your time is worth anything probably still cheaper then standing in line.

Personally, I think this is a butt ugly bust of a what could have been a cool Vader, so it is a easy pass with little concern.  Now had I had to go get in line to view  before buying I'd be  bit more miffed.

BTW, also saw at a local target the Bean There #40358 down to $14.99..still plenty of stock, so maybe Target will have plenty of Vader Bust available like they did with the #40358.

Again I've never believe they sell out when they say "sold out"...I think they just create urgency and a sense of scarcity.  Target is in it to make money and meet demand.  The bickheadz were more limited to meet short term demand  to tie in with the movie release......but then again, who knows what companies are thiking, lol

^This is another thing that I forgot to mention...How much stock does a store have and will you even get the item after standing in line for 3 hours. Way back in the day, I stood in line in front of Target the morning they released the exclusive Luke and Wampa 12" set. There was a small argument between two die hard fan boys and it got physical. I asked the guy next to me if all of this was worth it and he said "I'd probably take a bullet" I kid you not he said that. So, the doors open up and everyone runs into the store and to to toy asile, but what was funny is that they had all the exclusives up front and because so many people were hell bent on getting their exclusive first, they ran past the display right in front of the store.I just picked up one and went to checkout :)

Purchasing online is so much easier and yes, if I waited in line and came up empty, I'd be extremely pissed.

The Bean There Donut That set is just a Target exclusive. You don't need a Red Card to purchase it and there aren't a limited number produced. The Brickhedz and Vader Bust are online and Red Card only Exclusives and both (well at least the Brickhedz) are limited to a certain amount produced. I think the Vader bust is ugly as well, but the Box art is great.

It has been mentioned before in the forum that people who go to SDCC would rather just buy the exclusives off of Ebay than wait in line for hours for a chance to buy an exclusive.

Was that a polybag or what? Cute. If I can't find it at my Target, I'll probably buy the parts - would be pretty cheap. Cheep cheep. :)

I think part of the issue is that a blogger said they'd be released on the 15th and some people believed him and stopped paying close attention. A hard-knocks lesson learned for some - Don't believe everything you read on the internet.

It was a build in store event they had today. Much like the old TRU ones.

The other part of the issue was that it was supposedly going to release on the 11th, and nothing happened.  The difference for me between this BS (and the BS with TLM2 Brickheadz) is that there was just absolutely no schedule.  At least when you had to go and stand in line for stuff, there was a known date and time that things would be happening, and if you missed it, it really was on you.  The TLM2 Brickheadz showed up at Walmart with literally no warning at all.  The Target ones were only better because we at least knew they were coming out at some time in the next month before they released.  This bust is much the same.  Sorry, but I think the argument that you need to be vigilant 24/7 for these kinds of exclusives is pretty BS.  If there was an announced time/date/place, that's one thing.  But these are popping up out of basically nowhere.

I refreshed my screen every 10 mins from 7 AM Eastern Time on the 11th to 12:15AM on the 12th. During the 10 min span of me dropping off my kids at school and walking through the door, I received a text that Vader was live. I was still checking every 10 mins on the 12th, even though I saw that the new date was going to be the 15th.

That seems like a weird restriction. The key with these offers is to try to spend as little over $50 as you can, thus maximizing your discount :)

Why does target do that dumb thing where they have one offer for all toys that aren’t LEGO, and then the same offer (stated elsewhere) for LEGO? (Except the $25 off $100 part)

Good job Target, and here I bought some of the Endgame sets last week and now an even better deal comes along. Thinking of returning and rebuying just to get the Gift card(s). Has anyone done that before?

Yes, but not personally to get the gift card.
Actually, what I’ve done is buy at the better price, then return the original purchase.

With receipt, as long as it's within 90 days you get the price you paid.

    I'd do it.

Or go to CS and have them give you the $10 (they'll accept it as a return then charge it back to your card and issue a gc at that time).

Just remember that the prices on the newer receipt will reflect the $10 gc (sets will be deducted proportionally).

Yes, and I think if you used your redcard, you don’t even need the receipt.

^Oh man. Another strike for having a Red Card. We all want to look in jacket's that we haven't worn in awhile, pants that are at the bottom of the hamper, junk drawers and underneath car seats for paper receipts dammit!!! I can't imagine missing out on all that joy.

I keep mine in my wallet - so my wallet remains Costanza-sized, and so the ink wears off the receipt. So I can't use it anyway...

I think it's any credit card, not just the redcard. But it's been a while since I've tried it.

I get it. I get the part about sitting at a computer, refreshing it on the hour, if not more. I've done that for Hasbro exclusives and even for the USC Falcon. The problem with both of those: the time that the items were supposed to go live is subjective. Maybe a time would get announced, then you log in and nothing. Wait all day: nothing.

The problem with this Celebration exclusive was that the first date fell through, the date I'd heard about would have been today, but instead it was just plopped up there on the 12th and snapped up quickly.

Now I could do what someone suggested: find the parts via Lego and get the instructions through PDF, but it's really the box that it comes in that makes it special. And the truth is: it's ugly! If it was available at the store, I'd wait til that thing went on clearance if it was in a normal Lego box.

I just understand the frustration and, as much as it's easy to say "suck it up, try harder next time", that's really callous. I have friends and family, and I know that asking them to help me acquire something by staying online for 2 days in a row would get a big NO. I wouldn't expect them to do that for me.

And the whole lottery thing at Celebration is ridiculous. If I spent that much money to go, then wait to see if I possibly got a chance to buy something that I wanted in my collection, and missed out on it, I would be very angry.

^It's basically the same at SDCC; just because you are there doesn't guarantee you an exclusive, no less all of the exclusives. I don't think anyone is telling anyone that didn't get the exclusive to "suck.it up"; if that is what you are extrapolating from some of the comments, then you are mistaken.

Honestly, it sounds like attending Celebration Chicago and buying the Darth Vader bust there was the easiest solution.

My story: I entered in the lottery for the bust and got an email a few days before going to Chicago that I lost the lottery. Oh well. Then I get another email later in the day that I won the chance to buy a "LEGO Exclusive" that I could attempt to do between noon and 2 PM on Friday. Great; that was my first day at Celebration, so I could likely get it.

By Thursday evening, I got a mysterious email that said they gave me a winning pass for a day I wasn't actually able to attend. Therefore, the email went on to proclaim that I could claim my chance to buy the exclusive on any day I had a badge to attend the convention as long as it was between noon and 2 PM. This was weird because I always had badges for Friday and Saturday. Did the system glitch?

Important note: this was my first major convention. I had no idea how crazy lines would be or what methods vendors would use to sell stuff. I saw the Lego Booth on Friday with the Tantive IVs and the line of people already assembled to buy it (I suppose). I wisely decided to try again on Saturday after confirming with one of the employees that they would indeed honor my QR code for Friday.

On Saturday, I moseyed on over to the Lego booth at 11:15 and got in line (which was already a column deep, about a dozen people. Now, 45 minutes in line may seem pretty early, but it was a good move. The line behind me snaked around the last of the barricades, out into the exhibit floor, and then curved along the wall. Had to be at least 100 people. Sure enough, right at noon, they started moving us towards the cash registers and by 12:15 (the registers were lagging a lot), I had my Darth Vader bust for $40.

Later that day, I even got to meet Jens Kronvold Frederiksen and had him sign my Darth Vader bust and my Jango Fett's Slave I instructions. He is great, and was awed at how many years have passed since he laid eyes on the Jango Fett Slave I.

I understand this set is not "exclusive" to Celebration like they tried to make it sound. But between the relative ease with which I bought it, the experience of talking to Jens, and getting it signed by him, I'm pretty sure this was the best way to do it.

Yeah, to me; when you say "suck it up" to someone, you want them to stop bitching and complaining and stop acting like a pussy. I wasn't saying that. It does stink how everything came about with this latest Target Exclusive. Someone said that there wasn't an official word from Target on when the item was being released. Although, someone said that Target CS said it was going to be released on the 11th, but as we all know, information from CS should be taken with a grain of salt.
