Target is also playing a bit of game with their 30% off.  On many items, not all, they show a higher original price on the clearance sticker and then the clearance price 30% off that.  

Scooby Doo #75900  original sticker price is marked up 20% before the 30% off.  They even have the original $14.99 sticker still on the shelf, lol but clearance sticker shows "was" price as $17.99 marked down to "now" price of $12.99. The Target clearance on Scooby Doo is still higher then Walmart's off the shelf price.  Set #75900 plane also has the "was" price $22.99, "now" clearance price $19.54...but shelf price still shows it at $19.99...a huge savings of  $.45!

Sadly, that is fairly common practice in retail sales, at least in the US. A LOT of consumers will jump at buying something for "30% off", even if the net price is actually higher than last week's "regular price". Consumers are conditioned to look for the discount, while being distracted from the actual price they are paying.

Another game I've been seeing more and more of is "bulk" items that actually cost more per unit than the standard item. Like a case of cookies for $10 "on sale" instead of the standard box for $2, and finding on closer examination that you get more cookies buying 5 of the $2 packages than 1 of the $10 packages.

or some lazy Target employee forgetting to pull the shelf tag of $19.99.

i really don't want Target to become TRU when they mark up set prices once a year or two passes.

Last I checked it is supposed to be illegal to raise the price of an item to 'discount' it, but not sure if that is state by state, or a federal guideline.

I am unaware of any laws in the USA that would dictate that. Perhaps it is local or state law. Caveat emptor.

its illegal everywhere under antitrust laws. KB Toys got in a lot of trouble for it in the early 2000s.

...and it is not just happening at one Target, either.  I first saw it at one Target and then commented about it.  Later on  I then took the pix at another Target to post.

And yet a third Target below....

All a retailer would have to do to get around such a law was have the item for sale at the higher price for some period of time. Using the Snowspeeder above as an example, they may have had it for priced at $11.99 when it first hit the shelves, then marked down to $9.99, and now down to $8.38 for clearance. The software I work with tracks all price changes, so it would allow the retailer to document every price they advertised.

Sales at Amazon reflect this same sort of pricing. If they advertise an item one week at 10% off and the next week at 20% off, they don't advertise 20% off the previously discounted price, it is 20% off the highest price they ever charged.

Target, like a lot of stores today, operate in a confused manner.   Competing with themselves and others online, while at the same time trying to cover b&m cost with value added retail that many of us want, but are unwilling to pay.    It will be interesting where it all goes in the next 20 years.... :(

It isn't much, but Target Cartwheel has 10-20% off  several sets.  Coupled with an Amazon price match , if your Target lets you, makes it a bit of a deal.

A couple weeks ago, I got turned down for the credit card redcard. I recently thought to apply for the debit card version, and got that no problem. I'll get that in the mail in 7-10 days. I have a number to use online, I may shop there or at a physical WalMart in the meantime.

I've noticed it's been over 2 weeks since Target started their summer clearance.  Usually it's Thursdays for mark-downs but no such thing this last week.

It usually caps at 70% off now, not 75%.

It probably depends on the store. My local Target goes 30%, 50%, 70%. But it's very rare that anything with a LEGO logo on it lasts beyond 50%.

Yeah seasonal will go 90% but general clearance almost never does anymore. I miss the days of easy 75% off at target =(

Saw a lot of DC superheroes sets on sale for 15% off. not marked the same as the clearance items. #76045 Kryptonite Interception, #76053 Gotham City Cycle Chase, #76034 The Batboat Harbor Pursuit, #76025 Green Lantern vs. Sinestro, #76044 Clash of the Heroes. 76053 has the best part value, probably because it's small and has lots of good minifigs.

Some 15% off sets are now 30%, but no other changes.
This made #71310 Umarak the Hunter an even better deal. #70737 Titan Mech Battle and #70794 Skull Scorpio were already a good deal at 30% and I picked those up.
This was the first time using my redcard.
#10587 Cafe is acceptable at 30% (especially now that I branched into BrickLinking DUPLO and want to build up inventory)., I'll go back for that Monday. Yet City sets still weren't worth it.
I noticed that 5% off and 8% sales tax works out to 102.6% of the price on the sign. I also noticed that the discount percentage is a small black number in the upper right corner of the clearance sticker.

Last I checked Target is at max 30% off, save the rare set. Found Ultimate Robin for $4.98 but that's the only half off discount.

Targets around in Iowa are still 30%.....except for the Scooby-Doo Mystery Mansion dropped today to $44.98....but I think it was because this particular store had 13 on hand...another Target store in Iowa also did this.  Stores with 1, 2 or 3 left them at $62.98.

They also had #60086 City Starter Set at 30% discount for $27.99... from $39.99, not the RRP of $29.99. Beautiful!

The new August stuff populated on Targets website yesterday and all the new Nexo Knight stuff was named "Confidential BB 2016".  Got me all excited they let the cat out of the bag on some new stuff, but alas it was all previously revealed sets.

In case you didn't know: "BB" stands for Big Bang, which is what LEGO calls the multimedia themes such as Chima and Nexo Knights.

On Monday, I noticed my local Target rearranging an aisle in the toy section for clearance items, and they already had moved some of the LEGO there. They were still at only 30% off, but there's a good chance that will increase to 50% tomorrow. Even if it does, though, a lot of sets were bought at 30% off, so there's not a lot left.
