The only thing I knew is that the UK is a sovereign state that is made up of 4 countries.
Great Britain (also known as Britain) is an island, and consists of the countries of England, Scotland and Wales.
Note, Great Britain should not be confused with the British Isles, which is the name of the group of islands, and includes the UK, Ireland, as well as three Crown dependencies: the Isle of Man, the Bailiwick of Jersey and the Bailiwick of Guernsey.
Also note that the Government of Ireland does not recognise the term 'British Isles'.
Basically, Crown dependencies are self-governing possessions of the crown, rather than sovereign states in their own right, and they are territories for which the United Kingdom is ultimately responsible. They are not actually part of the United Kingdom.
I hope this clears things up a bit :)
(and that's my claim to fame ;-))
Still live close by although we might move to my husbands native country, England.
@ Pitfall69: another new thing you can learn today, although maybe not so useful, in the UK they call Stella ' wife beater' because it's stronger then their beer! Although in Belgium this is just a normal beer and we even prefer ones that have double that percentage (or more).
Note that I say was as the UK brewed Stella is now 4.8%, the manufacturers cut it about three years ago to reduce the tax payable to the government.
Explains soooooome of the LEGO obsession.
Commonly called New Zealand.
For my part, I'm from Lévis, Québec, Canada, America. :)
@KiwiLegoMeister - So do you know Bret and Jemaine? (Flight of the Conchords)
@natro220. Yup. They live right next door.
We also have a comedic phrase in this country. "yeah, right"!
Around the world, there's this thing calls "five degrees of separation" You know someone who knows someone who knows someone, and in 5 steps, everyone knows everyone. In New Zealand its three degrees of separation. That is pretty true here; but no, I don't actually know Bret or Jemaine.
@KiwiLegoMeister - to be picky I think it's just two degrees of separation here!
I've tried before to ask how many of us Middle-Earthers, there must be country stats available for this website - but got no answers.
btw, I am close to Wellington - about an hour north.
Thx for the interesting factoid, does it need the stains on it (what is that, mustard?) or its that just a bonus? ;-)
Can't really ' like' your message because that might send the wrong message, not really my type...
