What's happened to the Big Bang Theory Set?

Anyone know what's happened with the Ideas Big Bang Theory set? All that hype now nothing and no set released?

There's usually a delay with Ideas sets, the only one that didn't have a massive delay was the Research Institute, but most likely because it was held over from an earlier review and had not IP criteria to satisfy. BBT is likely to be a nightmare getting minifigure and logos etc approved as well as working out the set design at whatever price point they've put it to.

Thanks for the info! Thought for a min we might not be getting the sets!

There has nto been much hype yet, has there? Just the "passed review" video.
  • ShibShib Member Posts: 5,459
^Only hype in so much as it reached some non Lego based news outlets when it passed review and then subsequent fan hype.
  • Sethro3Sethro3 Member Posts: 981
If that price is correct, I may have to pass. That is ridiculous...

I guess we'll wait and see what happens with pricing and release dates.

I just finished building 9 16x16 Vignettes of scenes from Big Bang for Brickworld.  I intentionally left out the apartment due to this set coming out.  The figs look awesome.  Can't wait for this to come out.

The four guys are easily recognisable, even if just one at a time. I'm not so sure about Penny though, she could be any random blonde. Just her on her own, I'm not sure she is recognisable.

Eh. I'm not convinced about Howard or Leonard, really. The hair doesn't seem right on either, really. And Penny is definitely a bit generic. Raj and Sheldon are definitely spot-on.

Howard looks too jock, not enough nerd. He's too good looking as that minifigure and Penny does look a bit more like Bernadette. I wonder if they will give her short legs.
  • chuxtoyboxchuxtoybox Member Posts: 711
The only minifigure that looks good is Raj. The other ones all suck! I don't know what the actual set is going to look like but they could make the whole apartment and everything in it and it still wouldn't be worth $60.00.
I'm a fan of The Big Bang Theory and I didn't think this show made a good idea for a LEGO set and still don't!

Of all the stuff Lego has come out with lately and has planned for the summer, this is the only set that has my interest.  I'm buying one for me and the one @chuxtoybox  is leaving behind :)

No what would really be cool....is if these "room" sets could replace, or be an add on floor, to one of the modulars.

I have never watched the show. I am very interested in the set just for being a potentially very cool larger vignette. It just depends on how Lego has implemented it and what details it has.

I watched the show once and didn't like it, so have no idea on this... what the hell is minifig #2 holding?

Ahhh... if that's the standard of the jokes in the show, it's no wonder I didn't like it ;-)

Which is probably why you didn't enjoy the show :D It some how manages to tread the line between ridiculing 'geek culture' and appealing to geek culture at the same time.

Think Leonard could have been better with a different hairpiece, and didn't Penny have a haircut? (or at least she did in the last episode I watched a while back).

I've never watched the show but these LEGO Ideas sets are so cool! I've only missed out on the first two and the Mars Rover.

Yes, Penny has had a haircut recently, to go with her suddenly being made more 'serious'. Leonard could do with better hair, but the most glaring for me is Howard. As far as I can see, that's a new hairpiece he has there, and it just looks nothing like his hair. He is supposed to have a Beatles-esque pudding-bowl cut.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
^ It's from Larry the Barista.

It should really be swept the other way though for Howard.
  • ShibShib Member Posts: 5,459
@plasmodium - actually its the same as Larry the Barista http://brickset.com/sets/71004-10/Larry-the-Barista

There was a lot of debate about the right hair for howard and I think they probably made the right choice (short of a new mould) while his parting isn't as distinct as that it does have a distinct direction to it, the Ron Weasly one (http://brickset.com/parts/4153400) would be lacking in that respect.

Leonard I'd have probably given (what I think of as) the Mutt hair piece (http://brickset.com/parts/4535553)

Giving Penny the new short hair would have been a mistake, she might regrow her hair which means it would lock the mini figure to only a couple of seasons.

That's the LIMITED EDITION GREEN LANTERN LANTERN! It should also have a ring to go with it. I couldn't find the exact one used on the show but it should exist. Usually everything you see that is a licensed toy on the show is real.  Usually.

Even that they could have made a better LEGO version of. If you actually look at the real lantern it doesn't look like this set's version at all.

I concede that "Green Lantern lantern" has a certain ring to it already :-)

  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
Surely it is better described as a green Green Lantern lantern.

They should have used the Ron Weasley hair in brown for Howard. And I would have made his neck on the headpiece  the same color as his undershirt to look more like the dickey (turtleneck) he wears. For $60.00 they should include a helmet and his scooter instead of that rocket.

The creator of this set must have watched the one episode where Penny wasn't wearing short sleeves and shorts or a short sleeved dress or a T-shirt with dorm pants and slippers. I would have given her a "Penny blossom" for her hair and maybe a thermos for her morning coffee when she drives to work with her check engine light on.

Leornard should have a tile that says "SARCASM".

Sheldon should have a laptop, unless that's included in the set on his desk.

Raj is spot on except I would give him a wine bottle instead of that dog so he can talk to women.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
They should have used the Ron Weasley hair in brown for Howard.

It already exists in dark brown, so there is an easy solution for fans. It still flows the wrong way though.

I'm not really sure how I feel about it. I guess I was hoping for a little more detail or something.

It kind of feels like a $60 mini-figure set to me.

I've been waiting for this set to be released all day. I got so excited to finally see it that I crashed my browser.

The hair is really a glaring spot for these.
LEGO dropped the ball a bit and rehashed parts. While I understand why they need to do that, they really need to better match.
Howard should have a bowl cut, and I'm sure they could find more places to use a hair piece like that. Leonard should have something more akin to the 'sleepy boy' from CMF, Penny should have something more akin to the 'pop star' hair from CMF. Amy's they got spot on (then again I'm pretty sure that is from the 'female scientist' in CMF that looked suspiciously like Amy to begin with), same with Sheldon I think.
Raj has the dog because in many ways that is who he is in a 'relationship' with.

    doesn't look like a 60€ set. doesn't look like 479 pieces either
  • monkey_roomonkey_roo Member Posts: 1,411
I for one love this, the hair is a very small niggle and one that can be rectified by sourcing parts if you want. The room looks nice and again looks easy enough to add in more details in if you want, I am thinking of the House Stark sword for example. The Chinese takeaway is a great touch. A nice job and I am looking forward to owning this one :)

I like it overall. I don't love the price, but 7 figures for $60 seems fitting for where LEGO usually goes. It actually might be better, vs Ghostbusters 4 figures for $50 and BTTF 2 figures for $35.

Overall I think this set is fitting for where the set could go. It is pretty true to the IDEAS version too. I'm still surprised they are doing this as a set, but I'll take one.

I'm not feeling the love - unless you're a fan of the show or plan to MOC with some of the parts the set seems pointless. Whatever happened to LEGO being a building toy?

^ the same can be said of most licensed play / display sets. Lego, selling licensed toys since 1999.

I'm not over impressed with any of the female minifigs. Amy and Bernadette are better than Penny, but still not great.

  • andheandhe Member Posts: 3,907
They should make a limited edition version that comes in a tin. And with a badge.
  • Final_SignFinal_Sign Member Posts: 101
I think the problem with Penny is that minifigs just aren't "sexy".  There's only so much you can do with the short, plump, flat chested figure all minifigs have . . .

  • BobflipBobflip Member Posts: 712
I see your point, but I can only imagine what kind of things would hit the metaphorical fan if they tried to make Lego 'sexy'! Not just from parents, but from the "Since when has x been sexier than y?" factions too.

Actually, I dare say a few AFOLs might have some thoughts on the matter.

Personally I think the Big Bang Theory figures on minifigures.com are far better

No it can't - at that price even licensed sets give you something to build for your money. This is basically a 50 quid battle pack - ghastly.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
There seems to be quite a bit of building for the surrounding room and furniture. It doesn't have to be a vehicle to count as a build.
  • chuxtoyboxchuxtoybox Member Posts: 711
I think the hair they used for Doc Brown would look good for Leonard if it was done in his hair color.

Sheldon should have the hairpiece that was originally used for Bill Murray by the creator of the Ghostbusters set which LEGO should have used as well but changed.
If Sheldon let his hair grow as long as this set portrays he would feel like a hippie.

I could forgive the table not being transparent if it weren't also too small.

There should definitely be a TV and Sheldon's desk should be there. If he's not in his spot on the couch, he's in front of his laptop the majority of the time.

The kitchen is definitely part of that room and probably would have made the set look complete.
  • tamamahmtamamahm Member Posts: 1,987
The entire reason I hace been interested in the set is actually for the room. I do not watch the show. I like some of the room detailing. It is a bit pricey, but not that bad.
  • mr.pigglesmr.piggles Member Posts: 325
Ditto to the above. Do not like the show at all, but I do like these kinds of builds. Plus the minifigs can be generic enough if you swap heads or hair around or whatever. I want it for the room.

They could have done a Friends mini-doll for Penny and Sheldon.  It would have been to scale with the rset of the cast.

So for $60 I'm getting two walls, a door frame, a couple of shelves, two chairs, a couch and some printed pieces... pass.
