60062: Arctic Icebreaker

What's the story with this set? I've never seen it in stores and all of the marketplace vendors on Amazon are shipping from Japan. Did this set make it to the US? Perhaps it had a very limited production run? It's really awesome and I wish I had the chance to buy it at regular price.

It's a TRU exclusive in the US.

I only ever saw it for sale at shop.lego.com (I'm on NZ site and I can see it)

It doesn't seem to have been at TRU or Lego Store US very long. Maybe two or three months. I would have paid close to full price for this set.

This set is available from [email protected] U.S. right now.

@oldtodd33 Thanks! Hah I somehow missed it when I originally looked. I'll be picking this up during the VIP double points promo.

Just ordered one myself.  Didn't want to wait until double points since TLG seems to exclude certain products during specific times, i.e., double points.

As with other boat sets, it's a bit overpriced.  But it's neat, and a must-buy if you like the Arctic sets.

@1265 What?! Will TLG exclude modulars and SW UCS during double VIP?
  • 12651265 Member Posts: 1,145
@novicebuilder101  Sorry, I was not clear with what I wanted to say.  I wanted to point out that it's a gamble to wait for a special promotion to purchase and risk TLG of the sudden discontinuing an item prior to the promotion.  I've seen it before - not this close - but didn't want to take a chance myself.  Now, if the set is available during the promotion, I will by a second one.

I definitely think it is overpriced but just by the looks of it it does seem as though you get quite a bit of play value though.

LEGO does not exclude anything from Double points, at least at last heard. Besides, buy now, or wait a whole 2 weeks to find out if it is eligible for double points (quite honestly I do not see any exclusives being ineligible for double points any time soon)

@madforLEGO @1265 What happens if sets are on backorder during the double points promo? Will you still get the double points or does that depend on if the item ships during the promo period?
  • 12651265 Member Posts: 1,145
I have not ordered an item back-ordered but I assume any item purchased in your cart during the promotion will qualify.  However, don't mean TLG might cancel orders.

I don't think I've ever seen any "normal" set excluded from VIP points, even during 2x/3x promotions.  Do you have an example?

I dont recall sets ever being "disqualified" from double VIP points?  Maybe I am just out of the loop on this - no more discounts on exclusives yes but nothing about no double VIP points.

I think if LEGO tried that they would need to stop double points altogether as it would be hard for the stores to deem what was an exclusive and what is not to the typical buyer, one of the reasons why there are no more '10% off your purchase' coupons on catalogs I think.

Having all of the sets included in the double points is the best way to sell some of the bigger sets I feel like.  Personally, if I'm in the market for a bigger set, double points might just be enough to have me drop the money.  And Lego knows this.  That's what I did with the Ewok Village, and I know many others do as well.  So excluding sets would only hurt them.

Good luck catching it in stock for shipping, but with the $5 off $25 purchase this set is around $98 shipped at TRU right now.

Yeah, missed this set at TRU for the sale, guessing it was one of the first sets to sell out.

This has been below RRP (AU$149.99) with a few retailers in Australia for the last few weeks (between $120-133), beginning to suspect it might EOL soon... Think this might go well with 60064.

OOS in the 45 Toys R Us stores within 50 miles of Los Angeles. This is bumming me out.

I walked into the TRU in Burbank, CA and there were two of them on the shelves. I picked one up for the 20% off and had an additional 15% off coupon for signing up for their credit card. $95 out the door. Score!
