Looking for Polybags in Chicago... Can anyone help?

Hi all,

My brother is currently in Chicago with work for three weeks. I am hoping he will be able to pick me up some cheap polybags that I dont have. Is there anywhere in the area he may be able to have a look for me?

He is staying close to Michigan avenue. Any help is much appreciated!

Cheers all.

The actual Lego Store is on Michigan Ave
    In Watertower Place

And by the way, I don't know why people get so salty about "the wrong post" but I doubt the Polys in the Wild thread will help you with a specific location in a specific city
It's actually not that great of a thread for info anyway- unless you happen to live in the same city as whoever is bragging that day

^ exactly. That why I made a new post hoping someone in Chicago may of spotted something which they could let me know.

    Cheers

I don't think @madforLEGO was saying you shouldn't have posted this, but rather merely suggesting that there might be information to help you in that other thread.

Now let's look at your actual request, really?  What kind of answers were you hoping for other than "Lego store, Target, WalMart, etc."

Specific locations and stores would be a good help with addresses if it doesn't put people out.

First time he has visited Chicago so would need a bit more info than just Target.

I thought people in this forum were helpful?

People here are very helpful but I don't think asking for locations of Targets or Walmarts is what the site is for

The Michigan Ave Lego Store is fantastic. Lots of giant sculptures and a brick-built block of the street where the store is located. Not sure about polys but definitely worth a visit. (Note that this is based on my memory from a trip there 6-7 years ago and am assuming they haven't changed things much)

No @chubbles your right it's not. I was hoping someone who had spotted newer polys may of posted what store they are in.

To stop any arguments. MODS please close.

There's nothing wrong with requesting this information. There's also no need to get snippy if it goes largely unanswered.

I think the "Polybags in the wild" thread actually does help in this instance. It will give you a baseline for what sets have been seen at Target, Walmart, and TRU. Target and TRU are pretty consistent in the stock they carry across stores, the variance will just be if the shipment is in yet.

From there, a phone inquiry to customer service is going to be your best way to ascertain availability and they'll hold the items to boot.

I don't know why people call it salty to simply refer to a thread. Did I say anything about wrong way to post, or anything like that? No. I simply posted a direct link to another useful thread that would help the OP that many have been looking at. I think it is pretty salty to call someone salty for doing this, and I think it is pretty salty to basically be negative and say another thread will not help. You do not know if you do not try.  As for the 'bragging that day' comment, there is a world of difference between bragging about buying 50 of something, and telling people that 'at this LDC there are these bags'. That thread is really descriptive IMO and I have gone through the process to list what polys I have found at the IL LEGO Discovery center in the past few months and how much they cost.

My wife's office is on Michigan Ave so I meet her for dinner every Friday night after work and take that opportunity to make a weekly visit to the LEGO Water Tower store across the street.

I will update with any Polys I find but generally this store has very few Polys of interest.

I travel to Chicago several times a year. The Michigan avenue store tends to be very well stocked but I have not seen a lot of polybags there.
The former Carson Pirie Scott store on State street has been converted into an urban, multifloor Target. It's a little over a mile south of the Michigan ave store. That's where I'd check. Inform your friend to check the holiday section (they tend to have a section with "stocking stuffer small gifts and toys" that usually has a city and friends polybag).
Also, check at the cash registers. There is usually polybags on a hook near the floor with other impulse items. Selection varies, often multiple polybags are on the same hook so you need to flip through them.

I never new Target sold polybags until I found this forum. I had previously only checked for Lego in the toy aisles. It's important to remember not everyone has the same experience hunting for Lego or wants to dig through a huge thread for a speceffic question.

Thanks @timinchicago that would be great!

Unfortunately as somewhat expected there are virtually no Polys in this store other than a few City Polys from last year and some Chima stuff that seems to be available everywhere.

Lackluster selection to say the least.

The LEGO stores themselves almost never have polys for sale unless it is one of the seasonal ones that they've now started putting in boxes.  The Discovery Center in Schaumburg (as mentioned by @madforLEGO ) is the best place for polys.  They usually have 4 or 5 different ones and typically seem to be one of the only places to get certain ones.
