6869 Quinjet Aerial Battle

Just noticed a small amount of sellers on eBay throwing out this set at RRP, some a little higher & a few auctions starting at well below. Was this set expected gain any serious value? I'm guessing these sellers are figuring with the new set for Age of Ultron, that has killed any chance of that...

Wasn't looking for another one, I was wanting to see if the new polybag of the Quinjet had hit eBay (cause we're unlikely to get them here), but stupidly just searched for 'Lego Quinjet'. This was one of the listings, I disbelieved it so much I reloaded it twice, just to be sure...

Yes, I'm sure the new Quinjet has hurt the resell value as well as the fact the a set this size does not really have a minifigure to drive it (now that black widow is available in the new one as well).
I actually like the look of the old Quinjet much better and it is a nice build.  I wouldn't mind having another.

The Iron Man Suit is is exclusive to that set. I like the old Quinjet better, but they crashed it in the movie, so of course they have to make another. I believe there have been many versions of The Javelin from DC comics as well. The Quinjet Aerial Battle was always on sale, so that explains the low prices, but I think they will recover. If you got this set at its lowest price, I think you can make some money.

I sold one on ebay for £40 without the mini figures so there must be some sort of demand

Over here in Australia, the 6869 Quinjet disappeared before I had a chance to grab one. I um'd & ar'd, & by the time I decided to commit to it, a few of the sets were no longer available locally. So, I ended getting my Quinjet off Amazon, which worked out to AU$110 including postage, when the set RRP was $140.

We often get sets late, I've also noticed that tend to disappear quicker too (the 60059 Logging Truck was blink & you missed it set). Worse thing is the Lego 'specialist' toy stores, they tend to low numbers of some of the more popular items on shelves, then after the item is 'retired', pump out serious volumes at 25-40% above RRP. The 6869 Quinjet for example now at one of these stores $190 & the 30162 polybag is $16.
