which x wing set to buy

As the title suggests, I am looking for any opinions on these two sets.  I have read the reviews and am still undecided.  In Australia, I can get either set new, the 10240 for $270 and the 9493 for $170.

For the prices I have given which would you buy??

Assuming you can afford either, then spend the extra $100 and get the Red Five - it's an absolutely epic model.  I'm sitting here looking at it now, and it's superb.

Nothing wrong with 9493, but 10240 just knocks it out of the park.

^ agreed.  I think I have every X-wing except the first UCS one and of the system ones #9493 is really well done, but #10240 is just magnificent in comparison.

I love the 9493 as it is pretty close to minifig scale and very well detailed. No experience with the #10240 as I've got the old #7191 and am very happy with it.

I had no idea about bricklink, I'll have to go sign up to it.  Is it safe to use??

@mii11x I've found it very safe. Just make sure you use PayPal and find sellers with little to no bad feedback.

I would prefer Red Five. UCS is always UCS. For kids, the other goes better.

There's a new X wing coming out for Star wats episode 7 which I imagine will be systems scale but within a good price (it will get discounted at some point).
