Can we opt no thanks to new formatting and emoticons forum wide?

Today, a much bigger list of formatting options has appeared above the text boxes in which we type.
I liked the simplicity we had, I don't see the need. We are having discussions, not presenting reports for one another. It seems awkward on a 7" screen, can't imagine it working well on mobiles.

I also wonder if that's why images have been broken a bit in threads recently.

Can we opt no or is it a Vanilla wide mandatory update we have to keep?

It was updated at my request to solve the image uploading issue which apparently was a problem with the old version of the editor.

It looks OK to me, barely bigger than before, and more modern-looking.

Thanks @Huw for replying so quickly and if it fixes pictures and was a straight-forward way to do so, I understand.

I'm experiencing a few niggles with it, even without using any of the options, perhaps Safari and or device is to blame. I'll persevere.

@Huw - looks fine and is much better :-)  Like the fact that a percentage as well as a progress bar is displayed when uploading an image :-)

On the mobile version there's only a smilie button and a file upload button, so very uncluttered. If its on desktop view on a 7inch screen, that might be the issue.

The quoting system is not working now for me. It just puts "null" in my comment box.

I accidently posted a sad face instead of silly face and it was too late to edit the comment. Other than that I have had no problems.

Oh my, just noticed it. This is indeed an interesting looking text box header i'm writing under. On the plus side, it didn't throw me off the screen when typing a smilie or referencing a forum member with @, as had been happening for a while.

I wonder if my text written smiley will be left alone. :o) :oP

Edit: Aww. 'Smile' face is still being auto-ambushed.

Plenty to experiment with, no doubt... *(goes off to play with various buttons).*
