Mosaics

I've been wanting to create some mosaics and was just re-sizing images to do so, but finding the right color of bricks was been a bit of a struggle so I did a search for Lego mosaics and found out there was software to convert pictures to Lego format which was pretty cool, but some of the ones I've been trying aren't don't seem to convert them as well as I'd like. Has anyone used any or found one that's better than another? I've tried :

I really like pictobrick, but you have to make sure you first deselect the colors that don't exist in the size of elements you want to use, or are too expensive to get.

Also, this is a new mosaic software that is really good and easy to use: http://www.brickit.co/

I too have recently thought about creating my first mosaic, so your thread (and others' comments) are very helpful.

I've made a couple of things recently, I wanted to try and do some paintings (The four Thomas Cole Voyage of Life paintings would be awesome, IMO, but they have to be quite large for them to actually work).

Nice, I have always had a soft spot for mosaics, especially ones as intricate as these!

I love making mosaics. Have managed 3 so far. This was the 1st one I created :) better at a distance but still works ok i think.

Here's the completed version, I like the way it turned out.  I'll probably make some more improvements on it though.
