CMF series 14 / Halloween Monsters

CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
I have just been having a look at the leaks for what appears to be the autumn release CMF series. Nearly all monsters, some nice rehashes of previous characters that have turned into monsters or monsters dressing up as other characters...

We get a "Z" cheerleader and a zombie businessman, a fairly loopy scientist with a massive egg head, a nice tiger girl (not too monstery either), Venus fly trap boy, skeleton suit, the lumberjack has become a werewolf, a witch and sad cat, pirate captain is now a zombie, S4 monster is now a rock star ...

An incomplete list is on eurobricks, as are some links to the leaked photos.

I was excited when I heard the rumours of a Monsters CMF series, but these look awful IMO. I really hope the few that weren't leaked are better.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
I quite like the zombies, tiger girl, Venus fly trap, skeleton suit. I think I even prefer the zombie pirate captain to the original. I also like the way you can switch the lumberjack for his werewolf counterpart - that gives us another possible transformation character. I'm not really a fan of the vampire woman, witch or crazy scientist (although he does gives us arm printing to suggest large rubber gloves which might be useful). Also not that big a fan of the rocker monster, but it will be good to get some extra heads.

I love these, especially Tiger girl (as someone said on EB that hair is totally 60s Catwoman), Vampire woman with black beehive, crazy scientist, witch and Zombie cheerleader - another great hairpiece. Possibly to be used for a new Harley Quinn minifigure too? Can't wait.

Nice. I think a few of these have been for sale as a 'zombie set' for a month or so from one of the Chinese minifig manufacturers, Bozhi I think.

I think these look brilliant. They will go great in my monster fighter display, they will be excellent with the new scooby do line and I'm sure kids will love them.

I think Lego have done a good job in freshening up the CMF formula while still keeping it relevant.

    Well done Lego,

You also needto make sure ou scroll down on the link.

I like. This is the first series in many that I will need to get all of them. I can not recall the last series I did that for. My kids will really like these.

It's a real mixed bag for me. as a Halloween Fancy Dress series they are great, but of serious monster characters not so much. There are a nice mix of interesting new parts. I hope the plant guy has a second face print that makes it look like the plant doesn't have a face in it's 'Mouth' - I know there are heads that match that colour from the TMNT theme so there's an easy work around.
The Werewolf looks good, but considering we already have the Monster Fighters Werewolf and the previous more basic looking CMF one it's a bit of an unnecessary one for me.
The biggest let down of the bunch for me is that scientist. It's like they thought "Hey we've done "Crazy Scientist" how about we do a "Super zany, insane, crazed, meth head scientist"?
I do like the new witches hat piece, since the Lego movie has the hard hat with hair piece I like getting more like that to cover the reverse prints on the faces.

hmmm.... Well I was hoping S14 was going to be a Scooby-Doo licensed release. Still, these are cool and my Haunted House can always use some new occupants.

Me thinks the wicked witch is missing a purple skirt though which bothers me. Would have rather had a slope or printed piece. Love the hat though.

^^ Given the source of the photos, its possible that that isn't the correct head for the fly trap/plant thing.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
It wouldn't surprise me if some of the parts are wrong, that has happened with leaks in the past. They get the bits and try to put them together best they can.
  • plasmodiumplasmodium Member Posts: 1,956
I love how the zombie nerd (or is it businessman) has his piece of paper (homework? business report?) on his head like a hat in these pictures. So random.

That said, not massively excited by these. Never been a great fan of the horror/monster genre, and the few that are not very horror-ish (tiger lady, scientist, triffid-man) are all a little odd.

Part of the reason that I love normal CMFs is that they are non-themed - they could contain anything from any number of 'themes' or historical eras. I hope they will go back to 'random' CMFs next wave, rather than staying with themed CMFs.

True, but given the normal CMF humour I can believe that being the actual head for the figure. As I say, easy to fix anyway so it's a minor gripe.
That plant figure does make me want some of the Parabolic Ring parts in green or brown to make some triffids ;-)
  • korkor Member Posts: 392
I love monsters and I love LEGO so this is awesome news for me! With that being said, some of the figures seem to lack that finished look. I imagine when these roll out they will be awesome.
  • PlellPlell Member Posts: 192
I have a feeling that's the wrong head for the person in the skeleton costume.
  • thenosthenos Member Posts: 444
^ are you sure? It looks like sleepyhead skeleton to me.

I don't think the Simpson's series counted in the CMF numbering scheme. Neither did the Lego Movie CMF, if I remember correctly so they could squeeze a Scooby Doo series in there. However, with the Scooby Doo sets having all of the main characters and some villians, I don't we'll get one. If Series 14 comes out in August and Series 13 is already out, it sounds like something else will be out in April/May. Simpson's 2 maybe?
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
^ Simpsons is meant to be Apr/May, and this one Sep/Oct. Whether it will be called 14 or Monsters is anyone's guess.

I can't be completely sure; I just think that head looks more ghost-like and figured the skeleton would have more overtly skull-like face paint.

I much prefer the random regular CMF series. These aren't terrible but they just don't feel right. I like the idea of monsters and this is not what I was thinking they would look like. Seems as though I may have to wait until next year for another non themed CMF. Wouldn't mind a super hero theme though. ;)

I'm a fan of these! Loving the zombie cheerleader! I wonder if these leaked photos pisses Lego off. If so, that's what they get for opening a factory in China.

I'm a big fan already, but I hope the final production versions will be better. Most of these look like children dressed up in costumes.

Yeah, that's my slight disappointment too (mentioned by others in one roundabout way or other), the figs do have a very definite 'halloween costume' design to them. I don't mind that, of itself, but i do feel they've stressed it to the point of exaggeration so that they're screaming it's-obviously-not-a-real-monster-at-all message... which for me loses some of the potential for dual-purposes some of them might have had with a little more ambiguity in design.

So it makes me wonder whether TLG were conscious of the potential for fuss-making that some minority pressure groups might cause if the set was monsters (that look like they might be monsters) figs. I suspect they've gone to great lengths to steer in the sanitized direction, so to avoid being accused *sigh* of heading in a 'satanised' one. *roll eyes*

I still like the figs, but it's just a tad disappointing that they don't quite carry quite as much duality as they perhaps might have done.

Would the five 'missing' figures maybe be the scoobydoo gang?
  • AdeelZubairAdeelZubair Member Posts: 2,710
I would've liked a Scooby Doo Series instead these just don't appeal to me so less to buy :D

doubt it, you'd think these would be fleshies if they were meant as part of the
Scooby Doo theme - i know most of them have different coloured skin tones, but take the scientist thing as an example, if it were Scooby Doo he should be fleshie, unless he's been at the chemicals too much.

Seeing that scientist reminds me of Maniac Mansion for some reason.
Actually I wish they would do that as license with a Mansion set like the Simpsons house.. One can dream at least.

Hmm seeing the pics i guess i'll def.have to stick to my ("modular") Haunted House these are perfect for a "trick or treat"display!

The zombies look similar to past ones. But the others do look like costumes, although I quite like that. They fit in nicely with city mocs.

Great idea, but probably inappropriate for the brand.

Well I can honestly say I'm excited for this run, if only for a few Minifigs. Zombie Cheerleader is excellent, and there will finally be affordable Zombies again (I missed the CMF Zombie and all of Monster Fighters). The tiger girl thing is exciting (I can finally build a planet of furries or an anime high school! :-X).

I would imagine this will not be series 14 as themed series don't seem to be numbered. If we consider last year (series 12, TLM and Simpsons) along with this year ( S13, Simpsons 2 and Monsters) it makes me wonder if we're going to see this trend going foward? Two themed series and a varied numbered series. It might allow for some interesting and more diverse Minifigs.

I'd also like to point out that the shape of the scientist's head looks similar to a Despicable Me Minion, at least how I'd imagine one in Lego form. Hmmm.

Yeah, I could see them using the elongated head and standard Minifig legs for the tall minions, and standard heads with short legs for the smaller ones.

These will be released August 1. There will also be a ghost, a vampire, a doctor, a robot & a clown. Some of those pictured above are missing accessories & cloth also some of the printing is incomplete. One has the wrong head and one has the wrong colour arms & hands.

I assume the ghost's head is on the skeleton?

Nobody is going to mention the fact that the Frankenstein Monster is playing a guitar for some reason?
  • SolariousSolarious Member Posts: 317
I think my favorite has to be the Venus flytrap guy
Plus it sorta ties into Scooby Doo again because the Haunted Mansion has a greenhouse with brick-built fly trap

Do we have confirmation that these pics are official? There are things that throw their authenticity into question, imho.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
They are definitely not official. They are pictures of parts nicked from the factory and uploaded to a non-lego website.

    He's doing the Monster Mash.

Similarly, I'm also wondering why that zombie is wearing what looks to be a newspaper for a hat.

  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
I assume he is a business man, so he has the newspaper like the S6 business man. Why is it on his head? Maybe it's raining.
