Anyone else feeling waves of nostalgia?

Love the sets, must haves for me.

I love Scooby-Doo. I love LEGO. But there is still a part of me, that hates to see this continued licensing push served up to the masses. In the end it continues to strip creativity from the core of LEGO.

I'm still not sure about them either. I'm not a fan of the colours in the castle, nor the large hubcaps on the van. I spy some new colour hands though.

I like the look. I am disappointed in the size. I thought the one article said this would by 89.99, so 10 cheaper than the Vampyre Castle which looked much larger. It looks also small for special features that a Mystery Mansion should really have.

Really, I suspect even after seeing the inside details it will not work as a mystery mansion for me.
Having said that, it will work as a nice addition to my Halloween display.

Mystery Machine looks perfect! And the figs are just what I was hoping for too. IMO, that tree looks horrid, but nice printing on the half cylinder. Not sure how I feel about the castle. I like the color scheme and it seems to have excellent parts, but I'll wait to see the inside before I get too excited. Love the greenhouse and the man-eating plant!

It looks like a sticker, not printed.

Exactly my thoughts. Was hoping for something bigger, but still, it will be a nice addition to my Halloween display.

As an aside, @tamamahm‌, do you have any pics of your display? I'm curious as to what others are doing.

Hmm.....I am sorely tempted. I always used to love Scooby Doo as a kid in the 70's/80's(before G.I. Joe, He-Man, Transformers, and Thundercats came out of course), and they definitely went old-school. I think I'm just going to have to get the Mystery Machine and pick up Velma and Daphne on the secondary Market.

Wait a minute....Lego needs to do a Thundercats set.....Ideas here we come

^Or Knight Rider. If Hasbro doesn't own the property rights, any of those are possibilites.

I love the Mystery Machine. It might even get my wife interested in building for a change. She's a huge Scooby fan.

Initially i had little interest in the Scooby theme. Don't know why, the announcement just didn't grab me even though i watched the show as a kid.
But then i saw that mystery machine image and was immediately blown away by how utterly great the whole thing looked. The whole thing is spot on. Figs, great. Mystery machine, great. I even like the Tree and 'ghost'. Very true to the show. GREAT! I'm in.

BUT then I spot the veritable wall of stickers that make up the van... uuggh. The whole vehicle is plastered in stickers... even the tree could be a sticker. Interest dashed in a heartbeat. I know stickers are cheaper than printed parts and bring costs down/speed production up and all that jazz, but Zoinks! I have a limit, Scoob.

Besides which, production savings - wherever they are found - are as likely to convert into improved profit margins rather than reduced rrps, so i'm not sure that fans ever really benefit from such savings anyway.
But whatever the ins and outs of such decisions, it is what it is, and sadly for me a set plastered in stickers to such a degree as this dumps me squarely back into the ambivalent camp again, and could therefore result in my giving it a miss if not scored in a sale.
I'll have to wait and see whether or not leaving off the stickers loses too much of the character. Such a shame if it does. But had this been printed? I'd have been over this like a rash, even if it meant paying extra for the privilege. I wonder how much of a potential wider audience (beyond the die-hards) might be missed due to this 'saving'. Hmmm....

Re: Thundercats. I always felt Chima was the 'Thundercats line that never was'. I wondered whether they considered the license, didn't get it, but had prepped production just in case. So if Thundercats didn't occur, then it would be an in-house animal line... we got Chima. (I would've loved Thundercats).

I am all but certain that the tree face is a sticker :(

Remember when Lego Minifigure Scale Minecraft Sets were in development stage? The creeper and mobs all had sticker faces but they said before production they would be printed. I wonder if that corresponds to this. Also it appears that Scooby Doo will be another Jack Sparrow or Steve from Minecraft in that we will get him in almost every set and have multiples.

I really hope that the Mystery Machine isn't stickered

^Sadly these do look like final product images, they would have the 'confidential' watermark on it if they were not finalised sets.

I wasted Friday night and put together a full list of the almost 80 figures that we were told about for the upcoming year. Did I miss any? This was a huge past two weeks.

@sstoroe Awesome! I love that there's 3 new zombies coming up in Series 14. Turns out the CMF lumberjack is a werewolf. ;)

Is the pumpkin in the mansion a new mold?

I am rather disappointed in it. I like the old minifig head pumpkins much better. Much more classic lego.
  • matticus_bricksmatticus_bricks Member Posts: 651
^IMO the pumpkin looks like a minifig headgear, probably what will be used for the Headless Horseman minifig in the plane set.
  • sonsofscevasonsofsceva Member Posts: 542
I really hope the Mystery Machine doesn't end up as stickers, though it seems so. Trying to get those swooshes to line up - 90% of us will never get it to look like the picture!

@matticus_bricks‌ - You are absolutely correct, it is indeed used as headgear for the Headless Horseman.

Nice sets, but as an Afol, I need to draw the line at Scooby Doo...
  • bobabricksbobabricks Member Posts: 1,842
@sonsofsceva‌ I can see the edges of all the prints and they are stickers. The only prints that will not be stickers will be the dishes.

Great........ So much for me getting the MM set! I want PRINTED stuff that'll last, not stickers that I don't use!

If I wanted stickered parts, i'd go buy a mega bloks set that I want

That plane looks pretty weak--I think I set my expectations too high. I saw the improvements LEGO made to the Mystery Machine (over the previous Character Building/Cobi version), and hoped they'd do the same here. Here's a pciture of the Cobi "Wing Walker" from Scooby Doo. LEGO could have done such a better job than Cobi, but instead, it looks like LEGO went smaller and less impressive. Too bad.
  • koozkooz Member Posts: 158
I do want that Headless Horseman for my Halloween display though, so I will get the set...

Disappointed with the Headless horseman. I was hoping for something a little darker in tone for that character, something just a little bit closer to sleepy hollow, or which might have been seen in a monster fighters set. But this fig is just too far over on the cute and friendly side for me. Still, the plus point is the pumpkin head being done at all, so possibilities exist for a self-created version... but would have preferred an out-of-the-box good to go HlessHman fig.

On that subject (pumpkinhead), with the Halloween-themed CMF set this year, I'll be a little surprised/disappointed if they don't make use of the pumpkin in that series for a less scooby-cartoony version of a pumpkinhead, perhaps with scythe, as a haunted scarecrow type fig.

...Is scooby wearing flying goggles? If so, that's a fun fig right there.

I'm pleasantly surprised by how good the lighthouse set looks though. If i was going to buy any scooby sets, they were likely going to be just for the iconic bus and main cast, but that set looks pretty neat.

This is what I'm hoping as well. Also, does the ghost lighthouse keeper have a grey version of Balin's (The Hobbit) beard? If not, it looks awfully similar. Which gives me hope that some of the LoTR/Hobbit stuff will get reused in future castle lines...

  • ShibShib Member Posts: 5,469
I think it is the Balin hair piece, it would be ridiculous for TLG to mould a new piece so similar (but we all know sometimes logic goes out the window with stuff like that)
I'm not surprised to see it being reused either, hair pieces are a lot easier to argue that while they might have been made for a certain character they are not specific to a certain character unlike things like moulded heads etc.

Hmmm... Daphne is pictured in the lighthouse. I thought she and Velma were only going to be available in the larger Mystery Mansion set. This gives me hope that Velma may end up in the smaller Mummy set and that the whole gang can be acquired on the cheap.
  • BoomDiggityBoomDiggity Member Posts: 107
The Headless Horseman is perfect to me as it modeled off the Headless Horseman that was featured in The Scooby-Doo Show episode in 1976.

Daphne was always listed as being in two sets from the UK Toy Fair reports IIRC... best hope for a cheap Velma is wave 2.

Gotcha - I must have misread. That's somewhat disappointing for the kids, but I have a feeling I'm in for the entire wave anyways.

So the biplane is really lame, but I'm not going to lie to myself and say that I'm not getting it.
"I'm only getting the Mystery Machine" > "Oh, wow. That castle is awesome and I need Velma." > "The lighthouse is pretty cool, too." > "....might as well get the Headless Horseman to complete the wave."

    I'm weak.

Yes, at first glance the plane looks quite poor. Velma was my fav character outside of Scooby, so I was disappointed that she was only on the one set and the most expensive set.

The light house looks pretty good as just a "spooky light house" for any theme. The plane is iffy but I can see that it's going to be the smaller set. The first two pictures we were shown looked much more promising. :)

Yep. I suspected as much when i saw it, as it's not a design you'd expect someone to come up with nowadays. So, whilst not my particular cup of tea, I can't deny TLG is doing a pretty sterling job recreating the characters as seen on screen - not just throwing in random generic bad guys. It's nice to see such attention to details.
