As for Scooby Doo, the character designs posted earlier aren't significantly different in proportion to the character design in The Clone Wars, and those sets have minifigures.
I will be interested to see what the Mystery Machine looks like, I hope it's a decent sized set and a good representation of the van.
Perhaps the following thoughts are just me.... minidolls are sometimes more accurate representations of the actual characters (the lankiness of the scooby doo characters for instance), which is fine. But personally, I preferr the less accurate minifigure representations. My argument being that I always appreciated how LEGO could take some of my favorite film/real-life characters and "squish" them down into my favorite toy, the iconic LEGO minifigure.
I really hope they go with traditional minifigures for this theme. I could see them doing sculpted heads like the Simpsons but I feel that'd be a mistake. Regular minifigures with normal heads make this line a must-buy for me.
I really, desperately hope they're at least semi-based on this old spec art by Alexandre Boudon:
My biggest worry about this series is the builds, aside from the Mystery Machine. I don't want a lot of half-sets like The Hobbit.
Am I going to join the betting? No, can't risk it. Knowing my luck, we'll wind up going on vacation in that time frame and I don't want to get screwed out of a trip to the lego store due to a bet. There's no stores close to here so the l.s. is a vacation time only thing and it's been nearly 2 years since the last time I went.
Super Heroes is really the only recent licensed theme that I know, but in the playsets for that theme, LEGO does a good job with play features. Malibu Mansion, Batcave, Funhouse, Daily Bugle, Knowhere Escape - all packed in some good play features and look good for the price point.
I was quite interested in the idea of a Scooby Doo theme when I first heard the rumours, but to be honest I think the Monster Fighters did the idea so well that I'm only likely to be buying sets that look particularly special in the theme or picking up some additional monster minifigures for the Monster Fighters to take on. More than likely I'll pass on most of the sets for some of the other themes that have my interest better. I can completely see the logic in getting the licence though. At 7 years old I'd have loved some Scooby Doo Lego.
I think Scooby Doo themed Lego is a great idea BTW and look forward o some pictures of the upcoming sets.

No Scrappy, incidentally.... :-) There will however be two versions of Scooby - sitting and running - and he looks great in the pictures!
The builds themselves were preliminary; some such as the Mystery Machine even had what looked like 3D printed elements included, and there were no stickers. Even so, a couple of the models had a decidedly 'Monster Fighters' vibe to them, particularly the Mystery Mansion, and it appears that one of the sets will include the Swamp Creature seen in #9461.
Launch date will be in August I believe.
