Scooby Doo 2015

DadsAFOLDadsAFOL Member Posts: 617
via the Brick Fan...

Remember last year when we reported on a rumor that there will be some LEGO Scooby-Doo sets coming sometime this year? Well I received a tip from a very reliable source that the rumor is true and has provided a list of the set names and numbers. However, there’s no mentioning of whether the sets will be based on the old school Scooby-Doo show or from the upcoming Cartoon Network series Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!. From the info that was reported last year, the sets below will be released around May/June 2015.

Mummy Museum Mystery (75900)
Mystery Plane Adventures (75901)
The Mystery Machine (75902)
Haunted Lighthouse (75903)
Mystery Mansion (75904)

Zoinks! This is, like, groovy news!!

My nephew and niece will go nuts for this. They watch Scooby Doors all the time. My brother will love the Mystery Machine as well. Actually me too.

2015 is turning into an epic year for Lego sets I really really want!

Done and done. I think Lego's game is to distract us from the rising prices and decrease in quality by coming out with some really cool new themes.

I want pirate ghosts with the Haunted Lighthouse.
Mystery Mansion will hopefully be a worthy successor to Haunted House.

Hopefully they would be based on the original Scooby Doo show, I better get that definitive minfigure-scale Mystery Machine done before any pictures are released:D

Mystery Machine! I am such a sucker for Lego licensed themes.

I imagine it would be closer to #9468 - Vampyre Castle than Haunted house, but would be happy to be proven wrong.

@Shib--either way would certainly please me!

Never been a Scooby Doo fan myself but the theme certainly promises some great builds and intriguing minifigures...Lego licences tend to do what the IP-holders would like, and get me interested in their property, not the other way around!

Whatever they do, please, please no Scrappy Doo. Really looking forward to this theme. 2015 is going to be a very expensive year

My two have grown up with Scoob on one channel or another over the past 8-9 years. On a daily basis I would say still today Scoob appears on our tv at some point.

Told my two (8 and 10) 20 minutes ago and are really stoked.

I hope it's based on old school Scooby Doo. Either way, I'll probably collect all of them

^ so did this just debunk the Scooby rumor?!

Character Building apparently has a set called Mystery Mansion as well. They also have a Mystery Machine and an Air Plane set.
  • tamamahmtamamahm Member Posts: 1,987
I sure hope this is true! A line with main characters that are female, male and dog. ;-) An adventure line with traps, and secret passages. Cool creepy monsters?

Seriously, this is what I have been asking for for years. i just wonder how well done these will be implemented. The implementation makes a big difference.

I can't imagine LEGO and Character Building both having Scooby Doo at the same time.

Doesn't Lego share the Marvel license with Mega Bloks? I was thinking they dod the same with Pirates of the Caribbean, but Lego took over POTC after MB's license ran out.

If they do this, Mystery Machine will be on my shelf in the office for sure.

Jinkeys! I've been waiting for this theme to be made into Lego ever since I was a kid; I can't wait to see images and if they are that good, I can't wait to have them on my shelve (once I've made room off course).

Exciting, but I'm cautiously optimistic. With a new TV series coming up, it seems likely that these sets will promote it, and likely not be based on the classic versions. That being said, there have been a great number of Scooby Doo spinoffs and reboots over the years, and the character designs really haven't changed much since the early days, so hopefully even if this is the case, the characters will still look like themselves.

I just thought of something, though. Today on The Brick Fan, rumors about CMF S14 were posted, saying that S14 will be different and will be monster-related. There were also previous rumors about a monster-related theme coming out this year. Could it be possible that series 14 CMF will end up being classic Scooby Doo villains? Not getting my hopes up, but that would be really groovy!

^ Now I'm really excited! Perhaps it will be like the Simpsons with a mixture of baddies and alt versions of the gang that don't come in the sets.

I'm going to be glued to this thread for the next six months.

The Character Building sets have been out a while now--could be that the license is expiring.

With all this talk of a new Scooby Doo cartoon, I had to see what the new Scooby Doo looks like. For those who are curious, I've attached a screen grab.

Personally, I'm not a fan. They all look like they have eating disorders. Didn't Scooby and Shaggy spend like 90% of their time eating or looking for something to eat in the original show? Hopefully their LEGO counterparts will be well fed. At the very least they will have access to all the carrots, bananas, berries, pizza and sausages they can eat.

Oh, good. They all have tumors for knees.

That looks like a Family Guy parody of Scooby Doo.
(Yes. I know they did one a long time ago, but that was before an estblished art style).

Regular minifigs also have eating disorders, just the other way. Unless they do them as mini-dolls, then they will be as fat as a regular minifig. The downside for me is that they will probably do cloth skirts like Marge and Lisa Simpson rather than printed, but it will give us some new fleshie legs which is good.

Yep, looks horrible, and disappointingly similar to a lot of the other rubbish (IMHO) on cartoon network (Gumball, Regular Show, etc). Hopefully their Lego incarnations won't be able to render such detail to the level that they look drastically different from the 'classic' characters. We can only hope.

Why does the kids' body shape matter when we're talking LEGO? The good news is that they're wearing their classic outfit colors. LEGO will probably just use existing hair molds. I think they'll look okay
  • matticus_bricksmatticus_bricks Member Posts: 651
Those new designs are fine by me. They're all wearing the same outfits and hairstyles, so if they do make minifigs based on these versions, they will be pretty much indistinguishable from classic versions.

I agree with this. My concern is less the minifigures, but the sets themselves. Will it truly have the traps, secret passages, and that bit of monster zaniness, or are we going to have sets that have been skimped on bricks and features because of a license name.
  • sklambsklamb Member Posts: 515
Traps and secret passages have always been a Lego strong point...including in the Lone Ranger sets, which were licenced. We'll just have to wait and see, though.

And they will be minidolls, I guess (it just makes no sense, with the cartoon looking the way it does, to have minifigs instead the minidolls...). Fair replacement for Monster fighters, IMO.

I'd say they look enough like the classic versions, that in minifig form you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. If the color scheme were different, then it might cause problems.

I'll wait and see. I'd love the gang and a well done Mystery Machine.

I would prefer traditional Lego mini figures but I guess the alternative will work.
  • matticus_bricksmatticus_bricks Member Posts: 651
I'm not so sure if they would use mini dolls for a unisex theme, based on past examples. Mini dolls have only been used in themes obviously targeted at a female audience, Friends and Princesses. I think Scooby Doo will appeal to both boys and girls, so I'm not sure if they would want to use mini dolls to isolate the male audience.
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
And elves, which is also for girls and @Shib‌ . I would also be surprised if they used minidolls.
  • mrseatlemrseatle Member Posts: 410
Mini dolls might work well with this theme, but I worry about the future of traditional minifigs.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
I doubt they will use minidolls either. But if they did it would be a signal that minidolls can be targeted at both sexes where more realistic body shapes are needed. And yeah, it would be a worry for traditional minifigs if they did. Although until they get minidolls to sit properly and have articulated legs, there is probably no need to worry.

Especially for a a Scooby Door theme, where they need to run away from monsters.

Even though I haven't any inside information, I am positive that these new sets will contain Minidolls and not Minifigures. The Minifigures worked for the Simpsons, but I'm afraid it won't work with Scooby Doo.
