In Need of Help Building Set 8038

I know this is an older set but I just got it for Christmas. In order to build the Ewok glider you are to take one fishing pole and put it through the reel of another fishing pole. Here lies the problem! The handle of the fishing poles I got won't go through the reels of the other fishing poles no matter how hard I try or what combination of fishing poles I use. I'm assuming someone else had this problem also and am wondering how you solved it . Any help is appreciated. Thanx.

This is what mine looks like. Don't. Know why you would have this issue.

If you still can't get them fixed like that, you might want to contact customer service. They're supposed to fit. I put them together just like oldtodd33, with some (harder than expected at first sight) pushing though.

With some of those parts like that going through the plate with "eye hook" or the 6.6L bars going into the mechanical robot arm for part of the parisian restaurant the fit is really tight. The mech arms and 6.6L bars I had to hold the arm and push the bar really hard into the table surface to get them to go in all the way. The tight tolerances on LEGO and the full surface area contacting as those parts go through put up quite a fight.

I don't know if i'm remembering this correctly or not, but I seem to recall there was an issue with the glider in later releases(?) of the set. Originally there was no problem, but later they switched in an alternative part which then didn't actually connect as the instructions said it should.

I might be talking total nonsense here, if so, my apologies, but i'm almost certain i read something along these lines some years ago - and people ticking Lego off for not checking the build would still work with this changed piece.

Either way, contact Customer services as advised above, they should be able to sort it out. (Hopefully someone with a clearer memory than mine can recall what happened).

edit: huh, just found this searching google of all things...

I got this for Christmas... was it in 2009 or 2010? It was my first big lego set I suppose.

Thanx for the link legomatt! I knew I couldn't have been the only one to have this problem. I thought of using a drill bit manually but haven't done it yet.
