I am a little disappointed that the set comes in zip-lock baggies.  Nothing is sealed.  So I would imagine pieces were hand picked and placed in the baggies...
Keep in mind, this was coordinated by a third-party marketing company for Walmart, working with Lego to provide the parts and instructions.  It's just like the free GWP builds that Gamestop used to hand out, for example.

I know...exactly my point....that's why I'm going to double check.  It's the same as when Toys R' Us had their events.  They were sent all the bricks, directions, and baggies...then an employee had to put them together the night before of morning of.

I just received the promo set today.  This was my timeline:
    • Aug 11: submitted PDF of online order invoice (immediately after placing order) via website on PC using Chrome, got error message on the page after filling out info, no submission confirmation e-mail
    • Aug 12: submitted screencap (PNG file) of online order account page (now showing delivery confirmation) via website on PC using Chrome, got error message on the page after filling out info, but received a submission confirmation e-mail
    • Aug 13: received registration e-mail to fill out my shipping info and filled out the form on phone using Chrome, received order confirmation e-mail after submitting info shortly afterwards
    • *** never received duplicate submission e-mail ***
    • Aug 25: received promo set
Not sure what made the difference or which submission registered.  Perhaps my 2nd submission worked, since it showed a lot more info than the 1st print to PDF invoice.  Still, I didn't receive any messages about an invalid or duplicate submission.

^ Exactly my situation.   I first tried with Safari (twice) and received the error message...then Chrome and it went worked.  I later received 3 e-mails saying "submission received" and 1 "Congratulations".  I'm assuming they weed(ed) out the duplicates.
  • MugenPowerMugenPower Member Posts: 638
I also assumed there's some sort of verification, but I only received 1 "submission received" e-mail even though I submitted twice (with errors both times).

So who's going to scan the instructions for us?

I was planning on making a photocopy of the instructions for a UK friend I will be seeing next month at Skaerbaek. I suppose I could also scan them...

My local WM has several of the high end sets, including the new Galaxy Explorer. Very odd for the size of the town it’s in.

But they did have Death Star Compactor Scene #75339 on clearance for $59, down from $90. I couldn’t resist.

The Death Star Compactor is such an easy pass at $90. I might do a double take at $59, however.

Anyone else still waiting for the Mini Castle GWP? There was a flurry of folks receiving theirs, then nothing. Curious if mine is still to be expected or if it was a fail.

Tracked what I'm pretty sure was mine via USPS informed delivery and it has very surprisingly gone missing from my mailbox as it is marked delivered.  I went to the office and then a bigger one today to try to find it out what happened.

I feel like a deal like this would be my only way of actually getting this set into my hands. Great buy at that price without a doubt!

Thank you for posting this, I hadn't thought to look for this at Wal-Mart and picked one up on the way home from work. "Old MSRP" is the new "15% off!"

Personal experience with the in app scanner shows regular price.  When I switch over to scan & go it gives me the clearance or sale price.  Ymmv.
Same, this is what I had to do last time I checked Walmart. The app used to give you the in store price but now won’t unless using the scan and go. I don’t know why they keep changing how the app works.
I really do have a love/hate relationship with Wally. This time I started checking prices with Scan & Go and it showed the shelf price.  Figured it was no longer on sale.  Decide to use the regular scanner in the app and it showed a discount price albeit a small decrease.  None the less, what the heck is going on?

  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 852
I also tried the "Scan and Go" at a WM last week.  The prices were ALL different than what was 'clearanced' at.  There was a bunch of the City motorcycle stunt set clearanced at $4-5....then I used the 'scan &go" and it would be anywhere from $14.97 to 21.97.  Everything was much higher.  The employee scanner works though...if you can find one of them kind enough to help you.

Yeah, had an employee confirm some prices for me, to confirm the clearance prices on some sets, and to see if others were on clearance. I hate having to either 'drag' the employee to the LEGO aisle, or dump a bunch of sets into a cart that I want them to scan...

I agree on hating finding an employee to scan and price things, (if you can find someone!). But I've just went ahead and go to checkout and have them change the prices based on what the app scanner says (if it is lower). It takes more time, but it is their site, so they honor price matching.

In MA at least they still have in store price scanners but I'm pretty sure they only have them because it's a state law that they need to. I was at a New Hampshire Walmart yesterday and there were none to be found.
The old app was so convenient though. I hate that they've made in store clearance price scanning a subscription service.

I just do not know why they got rid of the scanners in the stores as they were few and far between but very useful. You would think that they would want those to help the employees not have to stop for every customer to ask how much something costs (especially when they do not tag every clearance item)

Given the number of them that were usually broken, I’m sure they save a lot on maintenance and replacement by getting rid of them.

The subscription service is the one that gave the un-discounted price, the normal scanner part of the app showed the in-store clearance price.

Would anyone that got the mini castle GWP be able to confirm it weighs 4 oz and may it have originated from Dallas?

I no longer have the bubble mailer it was sent in, but I remember it came from the weirdly named "Retail Sports Marketing" place that @madforLEGO posted previously:

    From
    Fulfillment center
    Retail Sports Marketing
Ste C 22701 Trolley Industrial Drive
    Taylor MI 48180

Also, I weighed mine in the original plastic ziplock bag and it came in around 200g, and Google says that's about 7oz.  My scale isn't the most accurate but I don't think it's off by 3oz...  It only measures up to 2kg so something this light is well within its normal weight range.

Okay, great, thank you @MugenPower.  I do have a package coming from a few cities away from there.  I had another 4 oz package disappear, but I don't know what it could've been because I didn't order anything else.

They weren’t, I’m guessing, but the decision to get rid of them was probably already made.

Looks like it is taking longer to process and ship out the castle GWP. Confirmation email on 8/15, package received on 9/3. If you signed up for USPS notification emails, my package came from "IXL GRAPHICS - UPS MI".

I was surprised when i first saw #10497 Galaxy Explorer on the shelf at Wal-Mart, but even more surprised to see the price today at $75; not on clearance, just the regular shelf tag for $75...and yes, it did ring up at the register at that price.

@jedivalkyrie I was able to buy one for $75 but only for pickup at my local store
  • FizyxFizyx Member Posts: 1,364
I was just able to buy 3 of them, shipped, at $75 online.  No idea what is going on with it.
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 852
I checked the link also (8:45pm) and it's at $100 for me.  And according to the website, only 1 store in the area has it available....30miles away.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,836
Apparently it has something to do with store availability (even if you do not ship to store). I tried to change the store a few timer, nothing worked.. I wonder if Walmart fixed their glitch
  • DavidBrickleyDavidBrickley Member Posts: 375
Strange…it’s showing $100 on the app, and $75 on the website. If it’s a price glitch, it’s one that made it all the way to an updated shelf tag at my local store.
  • vanvonfullvanvonfull Member Posts: 273
Hmm. I just ordered pick up for $75. I was in the store today considering it for $100. So thanks!
  • AstrobricksAstrobricks Member Posts: 5,564
I can only get it for $75 if I have it delivered. Unfortunately, I wont be home on the day they say they'll deliver :-(
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 852
Don't know if anyone is interested or if anyone has mentioned it, but I check a WM on Sat. and my local WM has #10714 blue, #10700 green and #10701 gray baseplates on clearance at 50% off.  Blue and green were $4ea and the gray was $7.  And I stopped at another WM to check other clearance and this store just had the blue and green on clearance.  There were dozens of them.
None were marked and in the regular Lego aisle.

It's available at my store, but I only see the $100 price online.  I would pass anyways, I'm saving my money for Black Friday right now.
