I've been keeping tabs daily on the sets that have been reported as on clearance here and on other places, searching on early morning to try to identify when they hit clearance. And it seems there is someone in my town who has a lot of free time. Yesterday the item shows full price, stock everywhere. Today it hits clearance, stock 0 everywhere (except for one store that seems to never update their inventory data, always show on stock, never has anything). So I think Walmart clearance is not for me :( I'll just visit every now and then and if I find something, good. No more futile hunting
I like you am keeping it local as I've traveled further out only to find nothing at the stores. I still keep an eye out for sales via the store search at my local stores though.  It can be frustrating even at that.  I spoke to the toy section supervisor/manager and she said that once an item gets moved from the shelf/clearanced they move the product to the back until they have time to sticker the product up.  Not necessarily mark it down right away.  This seems to make more sense to me as I visit the store after seeing that it's been significantly marked down and there is nothing on the shelf when I get there, not even a label for it.

On the other hand, I have spoken to other people supposedly in charge and say what you want about customer service they either say they have nothing in the back or they chalk that up to theft as the inventory usually has it at 1 to 2 left.

Maybe I just need to get a job there for a few months or find a girlfriend there.

My local WM has had all the new line of SW sets out for a good week now.  The SW section is looking pretty hefty now with 4 $100+ sets on the shelf and 5-7 $69-79 sets.

The Walmart app combined with the Walmart inventory check has been useless to me. Everywhere I go the inventory isn't accurate at all.

If anyone can QuinJet Chase out there for $19, I would love a copy of the set. It's the only AoU set I lack. I'll happily refund the cost, pay shipping, and throw in some extra, or see if I have something to trade for it. Please PM me if you find one!

....Got this email from Walmart reporting : "Want to find the lowest price on LEGO City Town City Square, 60097?".. Their price? $164.22.. On of the pricier amounts for this set right now.

I found Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle (75104) at Walmart a couple months ago for $59. I didn't have enough money on me at the time, so I waited. I called my wife and she said that it was okay to pick it up. I went back the same day at the end of my work shift, and they were all gone.

I stopped at another local Walmart and they had an overabundance of the set. Someone had bought all the clearance ones and returned them at the other store. I was very disappointed, to say the least.

I've been using the inventory checkers and checked the Walmart site, but I've missed out on the cheaper shuttle.

Just so no one thinks I'm being a sore loser for missing out on a deal: I did manage to get the Imperial Assault Transporter for $64. I'd been waiting for the price to drop on that one.

Thought there was a limit on the amount you could return without receipt at most stores?

Would think someone would say "Hey whats the deal with you returning half a dozen of the same item with no receipt?" If only for purposes of possible theft.
  • pharmjodpharmjod Member Posts: 2,916
I doubt they returned the set to a different store. In my area, there were literally stores within 10 miles of each other where one marked the shuttle down and the other had/has a full shelf of it. I suspect OP just went in a store that never marked them down. It wasn't a nationwide every store markdown like some of these have been (ie General Grievous for the most part).

Walmart.com had the #75904 Scooby Doo Mystery Mansion for $62 earlier today but only for in store pick up. My local store had two in stock so I ordered one and am going in tomorrow to pick it up. I've never done in store pick up and have heard some horror stories so hopefully all goes well!

Just have a hairdryer ready for the large stickers they will apply with your pickup info on them and you should be fine.

@Direwolfdark hey, I'm originally from Etown. I messaged you but I realized you are new to the site and maybe didn't know about that feature. I just wanted to say hi!

I was in our WM in Cary, NC  yesterday at the customer service/return counter, and noticed a new sign saying that WM no longer price matches as of June ninth. Geez Louise! So much for the Mixels I had hoped to buy at half off like at Lego.com. Anyone else notice this at their WM? So much for low prices...

I only tried to price match a few times there, but quickly found out it wasn't worth the hassle.  The workers/managers are always confused, don't know the policy and try to deny just to save their necks.

I once asked a manager to lower the price on #79008 because it was on clearance for a year at $75. He said he would give it to me for $60, he looked it up on his phone, I offered $55 and he said yes.
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 836
I once asked a dept. manager if I could get a couple of the Minecraft Endor Dragons($69.99) sets on the $5 clearance shelve..they were at the very top and you could tell they were flattened...he said "no problem" and got them down, he looked at them and noticed the tire marks on the box and scanned them with his hand-held device.  They rang up full price and he said the best he could do was knock off 10%.

Not so long ago I was working at a bank (whose colors are blue) around the corner from Walmart (which is also less than four miles away from my house) and every time I went to the store to buy something, I would get ask for help (well, my other coworkers too). I always joked with her that we needed to be paid for helping out customers...I also have an acquaintance who works at one Walmart, but he has not been able to help me get any clearance items or to let me know if anything will be or is on sale. On another note, what happens to the sets that are on display? Do they throw them away or do they sell them or return them?

It is always unknown what you will get at the clearance items. Sometimes I have seen items (at that same location) that had been there for months and months (and which I did not buy, like the Star Wars Podrace set) and then be gone. Lately, they have not had any LEGO sets on sale, which makes me sad. However, I realize that I have had my small but fair share of purchases, then my happiness returns.

Unfortunately, people are not fair when it comes to buying clearance sets; the few people who will buy all the stock and resell it spoil the fun for those of us who want the sets to actually build and play with them. Yes, I bought two of the Assault Carriers 75106 but it was because the second one was 75% off and the box was a mess.
  • SweepyDSweepyD Member Posts: 78
I question it as well when sets that have sat forever and then just half a dozen sets with no connection disappear.

I have also bought very few sets on clearance in multiples, the few I have I look at with eyes of making some grand set out of them due to colors or special pieces.
I question myself sometimes wondering "should I buy an extra 1 or 2 and try to make my money back?" then I go eh, no bricklink and not sure how much I want to screw with ebay.

  • legogallegogal Member Posts: 754
Yup, the marked prices at WM are not reliable. And make offers when you really want something that is marked down and they have a large quantity on the clearance shelf. You never know when you might get lucky. Or you can just saw forget it and mark WM off your list as a phenomenal waste of time unless you happen to be there for something else you really need.

Was anyone able to get the Simpsons figures at $1.00?

The store where I found the Disney figures (and has no more left, and according to a guy said they will be getting some more, but I'm sure he doesn't know) had a price tag next to it that said LEGO Simpsons $1.00...I checked BrickLink and it was the only store within 50 miles that had it at that price. I hoped the Disney figures would fall to the same amount, but no luck :p.

Dear friends, I shall tell you my story, maybe you'll learn something from my experience.  After weeks of visiting the same Walmart store which kept showing the Imperial Assault Carrier in clearance and in stock in both Bricklink and the Walmart app I gave up and decided to try an online order+return/rebuy.

So I made the purchase, and on the day that I went to pick it up I decided to drop by the toys section and lo and behold, 2 sets on the shelf! They were under the Millenium Falcon tag and no clearance sticker, which I guess is the only reason they still were there. So of course I picked them up. Now, went to pickup my online order and after a 20 minutes wait (This Walmart sucks at online pickup, and it's a big one) I was on my way to the customer service desk

The lady that took the return was not very experienced (she wanted a receipt where my credit card number would show to allow me to swipe it), but in the end the return went through. When I tell her that I want to rebuy it she calls a manager. The manager gives some BS excuse that since it was an online order it has to be shipped back to walmart.com (and he didn't even tell me, he told it to the CSR employee without even acknowledging my existence hehe). My guess is that the manager drove back home with a new cheap Lego set haha, but I'll drop by today to see if by any chance they have returned it to the shelf.

    Lessons learnt:
    - bricklink and the walmart app are not fully reliable, there is nothing like dropping by every wekk or so and hope to get lucky.
    - Return/rebuy is a far from reliable strategy which might not be worth the time, hold on your money  and dealing with Walmart employees

    Good luck out there

I've been checking 2 stores that supposedly had the Space Port at $30, like others have found. Never any sign of them, asked in store in one and he said there was no record of the item so they never had it, which I doubt.
Had phoned both before that and that was a waste of time. The first said they'll put me throught to the toy department, gave that person the item number and they said they'll check, I figured two minutes to check on their computer for stock and price but no, was on hold for about 20 minutes before being given a pretty unsure "No I don't think so."
Asked for the toy department straight away when I phoned the second store.
    "Sorry we don't sell tyres."
    "No toys." What the hell?
"We don't sell tyres here Sir."
"No, toys, TOYS... what kids play with."
"We don't sell tyres here." Useless, forget it.
Didn't have much faith in the buying online/refund/rebuy method after reading how unreliable it is.
Last night I managed to buy it for $46 on ebay, which might be a little bit more but still a good price and I don't have to waste my time with walmart anymore.

^^^I'm confused by paragraph 3.  You tried to buy something you just, seconds before, returned?
  • floridabrickfloridabrick Member Posts: 158

I don't think this is so scummy.  Perhaps @exciter1interpreted  "online order+return/rebuy" as ordering online, returning it, then coming back looking for it after it had been returned to the shelf at a lower clearance price (like I believe TRU etc do with Exclusives).  THAT I would agree is scummy.

@erequena returned it for a refund at the higher price he paid (online), only so that WM would honor their lower advertised (in store) price.

I’ve done “Store Pickups” or whatever it’s called at WM, with a similar “order at a higher price, visit store to pick up, then get them to honor their lower store price”.  But in my case it was simply to confirm that the store actually had the items that their system said they were supposed to have, before I waste my time driving all over town.  Although it saved me many a trip, WM tends to put stickers all over the boxes, and the “return/rebuy” portion was indeed a total hassle, something that I will never bother doing again.

  • floridabrickfloridabrick Member Posts: 158
Short version: WM should honor their lower in-store price.  The return/rebuy method is done because they won't simply refund the difference, which would be more logical to me.
  • erequenaerequena Member Posts: 52
@TheLoneTensor it's exactly as @floridabrick said. It's ridiculous that the same item I picked up for $100 is $30 if I scan while walking at store. Now, they have the right to deny my purchase (which they did) and I made no fuss, just returned my higher priced item.
  • pharmjodpharmjod Member Posts: 2,916
It depends on whether you ordered something and had it shipped to the store and tried to do that or if you did store pickup and the item was in stock at the store. One is stock / inventory manipulation which is generally frowned upon. The other is simply a YMMV thing.

I'm assuming it was in stock (which is why I did the order, so that they actually checked 'the back' instead of just telling me they didn't have any) since it was available for pickup on the same day and both walmart and bricklink showed in stock, but yeah, I see how it can easily be abused and scummy

I know I do the in-store pickup using items they say they have and I can never find. If they end up shipping it, well thats on them for crap inventory numbers.

I won't do the buy online and return and wait for restock thing. Not worth the headache or looking like a jackoff.

Saw a couple Elves sets 20% off - #41176 $47.98, #41075 $39.99. They also had #41103 for $11.98, but Target has that for $9.99 along with $10 off $50 of Friends today.
    #41077 for $28.74, 28 1/8% off Walmart's regular price but 4 1/6% off real MSRP.

    Visit a local WM.
They had some sets on sale (up to 20%) but nothing that I'd bite.
Use the App to scan the bar codes.

Went Walmart-hoping and found the 75092 Naboo Starfighter for $13. I really wanted the TIE Prototype but there weren't any.

Will be going to a Walmart that's more than an hour away, but says it has some bigger SW sets 50% off, so it'll be worth the trip.

Yesterday I was expecting to find the TIE Prototype and instead got the Naboo Figher, and after visiting four Walmarts, I ended up at Target, buying overpriced series 13 packets.

It's the weekend and it'll get me out of the house. Won't complain...yet haha

For those who bought back during the 165 deal...did it show up in passable condition? Or are they still slapping shipping labels on the set boxes?
  • JenniJenni Member Posts: 1,390
@BuriedinBricks it came in a shipping box. Ours has a huge crease along the top but we don't care much about boxes and it's been sitting on the floor in the living room for two months so I honestly don't know when that happened.
  • monstblitzmonstblitz Member Posts: 653
Mine came in a sealed shipping box.  I haven't opened it yet to check the condition but judging on the outer shipping box, I expect it to be in fine shape.
