My target would not match the online price as it was currently "not in stock online."

    Uh....
I believe that is completely wrong. I have checked into this before. They will not match online prices that are out of stock for competitors, but it says nothing about their own store. Considering they completely call out that competitors have to have items in stock, but do not say target.com items need to be in stock, they should have priced matched your target purchase to target.com even if sold out. Perhaps try again, showing them the info below. I don't think I'm reading this wrong.

    "Price Match Guarantee: the details

The original Target receipt must be brought in when requesting the price match by.
The item must be the identical item, brand name, size, weight, color, quantity and model number.
For matching competitor ads, including catalogs, the retail price must be shown in the competitor’s advertisement and must be valid the day the price match is requested. For matching Target.com, the retail price must be shown on the Target.com website and must be valid at the time the price match is requested. Target.com pricing must be validated by a Target team member.
Online competitor matching is limited to items sold on Amazon.com, Walmart.com, BestBuy.com, ToysRUs.com, and BabiesRUs.com by the site owner
For matching Target.com or online competitors, the retail price must be shown on your mobile device or by bringing in a printed page showing the current price. Online competitor pricing must be validated by a Target team member. Competitor catalogs can be matched as long as the catalog displays a current date and retail price and meets all other competitor ad match qualifications.
We reserve the right to verify a competitor’s advertised price and the availability of the item.
Competitor online items must be in stock at the time price match is requested.
Limit of one competitor online price match per identical item per guest."

ETA: I found this one, and this one is less clear. It mentions 'sold out' in the fine print, but it is not clear if they are using that to reference competititors or not, especially since it still explicitly states online competitors/sold-out.

^^ Thanks! Out of 18 Targets in my state...only 3 show them in stock. Couple stores have 3 each and one store says it has 21. Unfortunately it's an hour away.

I found #60003 Fire Emergency today at Target for $12. Tag on the shelf said $12 but it scanned for $40 so I showed it to an employee and he rang it up for me at the shelf price.

^^^Thanks @tamamahm I may try again. I did mention that other stores were matching the price but she seemed unwilling to help. Has anyone had luck with a normal cashier doing the price match? At this target they make you go to the customer service counter.

All this discussion, I was just returning something at Target, saw this set and got it for $12.99 no questions asked. Thanks guys! Btw, it shows "unavailable" online, and that's both for online and in store, if that helps. Ref the GL set.
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
Here's the receipt if that helps.

As mentioned earlier, the 0369 DCPI code, which is what the Green Lantern product page on Target.com is incorrectly using, is actually for a $12.99 set. I entered the code into one of the Target scanners today. Looks like that may be the code for the #76029 Iron Man vs Ultron set coming out later in the year.

^how did you enter the code on the scanner? I could do it on the old keypad scanners, but haven't tried to figure out the newer ones. (There are really new ones that are just touch pads that are different yet.)

There were keys on the right side of the device - they were cut off in the photo.
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
Just punch in the number on the keys like @sidersdd said, except that occasionally you have a broken scanner that doesn't work. The one at my Target by the Lego section doesn't respond when you push the buttons. Somehow I don't think they care as it scans fine.

Does the toy clearance drop to the next tier today or tomorrow? (wed/thurs)

People often tout Thursday as the day for markdowns at Target. Dunno if it's universal across stores or not.
  • RonyarRonyar Member Posts: 373
^my problem is that most of the Target's near me have scanners with no keypads. Either touch screens or scanners with just 4 buttons on the bottom. I'm not sure if you can manually enter numbers into those styles. I would just ask a store associate to help you look it up in that case.

Thursday is the day at my closest Target. I usually check over my lunch hour, but with the weather here, I'm not sure it's worth it this time (even if it's supposed to improve to a balmy 8° by then). And really, it will be interesting only if they put new things on clearance; they currently have only Chima, Hero Factory, and a select few unappealing Star Wars sets marked down.

Yeah, waiting patiently for another delivery of these to the stores. If I cannot find them at Target Ill buy at LEGO store. Wonder how much of this is demand vs those wanting codes to input for the contest. My guess is there is another wave that will be delivered some time in the near future

I hope so; it didn't get wiped out until after Christmas. What's irritating is that the movie CMFs aren't even on the Lego website anymore for price matching, and they're out at $3.99 instead of the original $2.99, and that extra dollar makes a big difference to me.

Today, saw a Sail Barge for $59.98 and about 8x Nindroid Dragons for $44.98. A few other things still at 30%

That's crazy; are they priced at the current retail, or are they set at what they sold for initially?

That's about on-par with Bricklink prices + shipping.

A few days after stating that my local Targets never seem to markdown beyond 25%, I go into one today for cat food and find a pair of #70728 Battle for Ninjago City marked at 50% off ($60.00). I was so pumped. My GF's son is 5 so I'm going to let one of the sets marinate in storage for a couple more years until he will better appreciate it. The other I will use for trades, or possibly for parts one day.

Note: I almost didn't see them at first. They weren't in the dedicated LEGO section. They had a few random clearance endcaps scattered throughout the entire toys section. There were some other LEGO sitting with these sets for 25% off, and these were the only 50% that I saw.

$2.99. Somewhere you know there's a store with Series 1 on the shelf for $1.99...

Seems like stores are trying to get Benny off the shelf, yet it's still featured in the 2015 catalog. So I guess it'll be around for awhile.

    ^ It's still $99 around here...at Target and Walmarts
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,730
A lot of Target clearance has fallen to 30% near me but it isn't very exciting stuff. Huge pile of Sir Fangar walkers which might be tempting when they drop to 50%.
  • krklintkrklint Member Posts: 502
Miami is mainly at 30% off, still, too. Though now I know which stores are overstocked, and which ones are not... though it seems all of them are heavy in Chima in the clearance aisle.
  • ryjayryjay Member Posts: 1,009
Found one Target that had the Friends Dolphin Cruiser down to $39.99 and Lego Movie Benny Spaceship #70816 at $59. Didn't buy the BS because I just dont like it, but I think it was a great deal, I'm sure someone who appreciated the goovy movie sets will pick it up.

^If only that would happen at my local Target. I've been wanting to pick up a Benny's Spaceship on clearance, but no luck. The only store that has them in stock is Meijer and they don't seem to be keen on marking them any lower than $80.

Go to Meijer today and with today's mperks coupon its 25% off clearance. Puts Benny's at about 60. Ends tonight.

@thedingman5‌ - Unfortunately Benny's Spaceship isn't actually on Clearance, it's just on sale. So that coupon (clearance items only) doesn't stack with it. I wish though!

Weird. It stacked for us. YMMV indeed.

Ya it was a ymmv for sure as some stores it was clearance, on sale or rrp.

I asked the customer service rep about the differences in prices since I have 4 meijer within 20 miles and they told me that each meijer sets their own sales. They also would not price match any of the other meijer in the area or even their own website.
  • oansunoansun Member Posts: 87
Yea, one of my stores had the Dropship cleared at like 31.50 before the 25% stack (but they were all gone before I made it there) while 3 others had it at just the 25% off sale
  • KralaskanKralaskan Member Posts: 208
Never seen the dropship even marked down a cent here. At any store. Waiting for that one to be on sale

    Correction..I misread.. I meant Gunship.

My Target had 30% off clearance, just some cruddy sets. So I was shocked to see the large flaming phoenix set at half off.. until I picked it up and it was obviously way light and tampered with. Not cool Target.
  • OdinduskOdindusk Member Posts: 763
This may be an inquiry for another thread, but I'm curious about your comment @margot -- did you happen to inspect the box too? Or did you just feel the weight (or lack of weight) and didn't even bother check the seals? I ask because I constantly read about other people claiming that it's possible to tamper/open LEGO boxes and then reseal them without leaving a trace of evidence of what's happened. I've yet to be fooled by this as it's always extremely evident to me. Just curious about your observations.
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
I did look at the seals and noticed that there appeared to be an extra seal covering the original on the one side I checked. So resealed I suppose. But it took some inspecting and the casual observer would not notice. It looked pretty good actually. I also tested out the box of my set at home today and it felt about 3 times the weight of the one at Target. @Odindusk.

I was fooled with a galaxy squad Titan almost. Weighed less then it should have. They popped the bottom of the box and re-glued it. Some glue leaked out the edge and was visible
  • red237red237 Member Posts: 336
I have called LEGO and asked them to put extra tape seals over the bottom for exactly that reason. So far, they haven't obviously. It would make a huge difference.
  • 12651265 Member Posts: 1,165
I'm surprised Lego hasn't gone with tamper proof security tape. This would be a viable solution if Lego is concerned with additional costs. With so many cases of tampered boxes, I'm sure this would be a cost trade-off.

That's a method that has never occurred to me - thanks for the fresh insight. Sneaky bastards...
