ecmo47ecmo47 Member Posts: 2,101
Target stores are having a 50% off toy sale starting tomorrow at 7:00 AM. The flier included a picture of #31019, Forest Animals (Monkey & Toucan). No idea of other sets.

The ad specifically states 50% off toy clearance. There are no exclusions.

Where can I see the ad?

Good luck getting them to honor your interpretation of the ad. No way Target is cutting prices on every toy by 50%.

The fine print says "Clearance quantities limited; no rain checks. Immediate markdowns may have been taken. Previously purchased mechandise, now on clearance, is not eligable for price adjustment". So, no, not all Lego is on clearance, just the ones that they have marked down.

so, basically nothing, or nothing good. same as always
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
Hmmm, probably so not worth checking out in my area.
  • tamamahmtamamahm Member Posts: 1,987
Are they simply advertising a typical end of cycle clearance sale? That sounds odd.
  • norm103norm103 Member Posts: 303
Yes this is just the day after markdowns the toys do ever year. To clear out for the new set
  • red237red237 Member Posts: 336
My only local Target had about 3 Turtles sets left Wednesday....so I hope everyone else has some luck with this instead!

Apparently they're just advertising the stuff that is already clearance tagged at 50% off. NOT the other stuff that's tagged at 15, 30% off. :(

The only other set I found at Target marked down 50% besides the monkey was the new Chima Mammoth.....$45
Also the Museum Break In was marked down to $30.

HOWEVER the target clerks weren't sure of the ad's wording and were nice enough to take 50% off a clearance-tagged Super Secret Police Dropship and Droid Gunship. Got em both for $51.50
  • ecmo47ecmo47 Member Posts: 2,101
    Found the following:

    #31019 (Forest Animals) $9.98 (50%)
    #31021 (Furry Creatures) $16.98 (15%)
    #79015 (Witch King Battle) $7.48 (50%)
    #79016 (Lake town #2) $20.98 (33%)

They also had all the SW Micro fighters on sale, a couple Lego Movie sets, some Hero Factory and Chima on clearance. No Superheros though...
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
Only super hero set I saw was the Hulk Smash Lab for $42
  • ChubblesChubbles Member Posts: 459
    Is this in-store only?
  • ecmo47ecmo47 Member Posts: 2,101
    Yes. And very store dependent.
  • ChubblesChubbles Member Posts: 459
That stinks, our targets are pretty terrible in Brooklyn

went to one of the target, it is a lackluster, Emmet Robot for 51, and the Lego Movie Police space ship or whatever is like 20% off, one of the micro fighter with the droid one is $8, and a few chima set also 20% off, waste of time! and i asked one of the staff, she said not everything 50% off, it is some of the item "UP" to 50% off. so whatever the marked price are the price for that item!
  • LEGOCollector2504LEGOCollector2504 Member Posts: 30
Our stores took 50% off anything that was clearance tagged but YMMV. Got hulk lab, at-ap, lego movie garbage truck.

Did they ring up automatically for 50% off? I scanned a clearance item and it only showed the clearance sticker price.
  • tamamahmtamamahm Member Posts: 1,987
    Same here. ^
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
Same here....only what they scanned for.
  • DoubleDDoubleD Member Posts: 488
I think it was only the monkey set shown on add. I took a couple sets up there and they said what ever it was marked was the price. Pretty miss leading add I just left all the sets I picked up, one was the monket set.
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
Monkey set at my store and also the t-shirt storage block was 50% off.
  • AsterickedAstericked Member Posts: 36
My store had LEGO 70815 Movie: Super Secret Police Dropship for 39.98. It was 50% off! Couldn't pass up that deal. And they had the Starwars Microfighters for 8.50, and a few other Starwars sets for 20-30% off.

After a couple go arounds with the manager was able to score the Jabba sail barge #75020 for $67.50 and Hero Factory #44028 for $13.50. Didn't try for anymore. Felt like I was going to push my luck. She indicated they were still waiting for direction from corporate.

Went looking for the the monkey set #31019 this morning. Got to the Lego aisle only to find the lady in front of me grabbing all 8 or so. She then went over to the next aisle and had some conversation, and about 30 secs later, a man came over with 4 of the sets to put them back on the shelf. I asked if I could take have them. He smiled, handed them over, and went back to the next aisle. Shortly after that, the same lady came back over again, saw me holding the 4 sets, had a mad look on her face, and went away again.

I did not stay to find out what happened after that :).

Found the Museum Break-in marked at 30% off but they took it off the $42 black Friday price so it was less than $30 with Redcard. Finally a good price for that. Also found a Family House for $42. Most everything else was a measly 15% and not worth the trouble.

After a long wrangle we got #31021 Furry Creatures for $11.04 and #41005 Heartlake High for $27.61. We showed the ad to a employee in toys, who said she thought the price would adjust at check out to 50% from 15%. At check out the clerk called for price help: the person who responded was the Security Guard. What? Guess a couple of old people looked really cranky? [Oh yeah, in this state people pull out their guns and kill unarmed strangers in Walmarts.] Another lady was called and she passed it off to another guy. Guy parsed the English in the ad, trying to make it say things it didn't. "It says 'intermediate markdowns may have been taken', this has price reductions already, so it doesn't apply."
No, that means we don't get 50% off of lowest marked price, but regular price. He talked on communicator to someone else. "They want all Lego for 50%" No we want Lego with Clearance tags 50% off. Finally we were given 35% more after 15%, which he said would be equal to 50%. No it isn't, but close enough. We didn't think explaining the math was worth the further effort. If you don't mean 50% Toy Clearance, don't put an ad in the paper saying 50% Toy Clearance. If you mean only items in picture, say "applies to items pictured only." If you mean "up to 50%", say "up to 50%." But you don't want to put those things in the ad, because then I would not bother going to your store. Play fair and I won't stand in your check out line "making trouble."

I didn't see anything in the ad that would make me think all Lego clearance was 50%, maybe I missed something? I looked at it because I would be the first one to press the issue if I thought I had a leg to stand on.

Ad states "50% OFF TOY CLEARANCE". It doesn't explicitly state that only items pictured are 50% off; therefore one could also read that to mean that all clearance toys are 50% off. And some people chose to believe that it meant all toys would be 50% off.

Not a good leg to stand on. But a good enough leg for those that wish to circumvent purchase limits, coupon restrictions, and such.

I took it to mean up to 50% off. I asked when I got there and that's how they explained it to me. They then took me to a separate isle away from the normal LEGO isle that was strictly a clearance isle. She then pointed out the sets that were 50% off. If you got a store that gave 50% off all clearance then good for you but I don't think that was the intention of the ad.

I took it like most people I would think. 50 % off the clearance price. When Walmart says 50% off clearance, they take the lowest price and cut it half. It is a very misleading ad. I didnt go in there thinking the whole toy section was half off.
But a "up to 50 percent off" would be better in the ad, but you don't have to put in anything if it is just a regular clearance.
  • klatu003klatu003 Member Posts: 729
^If they wanted to advertise those particular toys, they could have printed the individual prices and been crystal clear. But they wanted people to think they were putting toys, including Lego, on a 50% off sale the day after Christmas. #31021 Furry Creatures is almost the same thing as the pictured #31019, Forest Animals, but it was only 15% off?

It was very misleading and I think intentional to bring traffic to their stores rather than their competition. OPEN at 7:00 AM -SALE 50 % TOY CLEARANCE.

Isn't that the goal of any ad?

Yup, I first took it as meaning 50% off all clearance. But after reading that statement and seeing some clearance-stickered sets not ringing up with an extra 50% off, I knew it wasn't worth my time waiting in the long lines just to spend even more time trying to explain my interpretation of the ad to them.

    Interesting.
My newspaper print ad says -
    50% off Toy Clearance
"Clearance quantities limited; no rainchecks. Intermediate markdowns may have been taken. Previously purchased merchandise, now on clearance, is not eligible for price adjustment." There is extemely small print on bottom of page about Red Card discount. The verbage you quoted is not there.
  • tamamahmtamamahm Member Posts: 1,987
It was simply a very poorly written ad.
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
They must have been getting some slack from the add. I received an email from Target today advertising "up to 50% off clearance" .
  • Sethro3Sethro3 Member Posts: 1,016
I didn't even think to look at the ad. A fellow LUG member said the Forest Animal set would be available for cheap and picked up 6 for a draft. I went looking for one for myself. The LEGO aisle was pretty sad, and I think only a few 15% off sales were present (noted above). Nothing exciting like new Hobbit sets though. That would have been amazing!
  • binaryeyebinaryeye Member Posts: 1,831
There was nothing better than 15% off at my local Target. However, they did have a ton of the new sets out; Bionicle, Creator, Star Wars, and Super Heroes. Picked up Green Lantern vs. Sinestro, the T-16, and the Snowspeeder Microfighter.

Found two battle for ninjago city sets at 30% off. Went to another target three miles away...and they had a stack at full price. Frustrating hit or miss in same market...
  • ecmo47ecmo47 Member Posts: 2,101
I hit up about 5 Targets over the past few days. It seemed that all the same sets were on sale, but the amout of discount varied by store. One store had sail barges for $102 and another had them for $83.00. My final stop today netted Benny's Spaceship for $70.00. Overall, I was happy with the variety of sets on sale and found some good deals.
  • draco1122draco1122 Member Posts: 10
My local Target had 3 of Benny's Spaceships up for $49 so I picked up two of them but that was the only thing that they had for 50 percent off.

I'm trying to avoid rushing out to look for sets on sale cause I got most of what I wanted last month, but Benny's Spaceship has been on my wish list, and at anything more than 20% off it would be an instant buy for me.
