In the 1980s and 1990s I had gotten a large trove of the now rare red and white large spoked wheels with lack tires.

The red ones were used in several 1960s/1970s sets, and both red and white ones were found in the 1974-79 Hobby set (only sold in Europe and Australia). The white large spoked wheels are much rarer than the red ones, having only been found in the 391 (Renault) and 395 (Rolls Royce) Homemaker set.

These rare white spoked wheels were NEVER sold in USA/Canada.

I have 2 sets of 6 wheels/tires.... in excellent white conditon... no nicks or blemishes... look like new... tires are also blemish free and still have a shine to them.

No seller on Bricklink in North America has these... so if you bought them from Europe, you could expect to pay a hefty shipping fee.

Selling them for $18 per 6. That includes free shipping (yeah it it's really $15 + $3 shipping). Also if you tell me which model (391 or 395) you want it for, I will include other vintage parts from that era, also in great condition.

If you're like me, you hate opening up a package of used parts, because you never know what kind of nicks or blemishes (or worse... chew marks) you get on your parts. These are in top condition for used parts, and when built into a model will appear new.

Selling only to USA buyers... although I will entertain Canadian offers...

If interested... contact me at: [email protected]

P.S. I need the money to ship out other orders...

Hey Gary, glad to see you're feeling better and back to contributing to the LEGO community with your knowledge of LEGO history. I enjoy the posts Huw places on the main site. It's a pleasure having you back and providing your historical nuggets of information.

I do have mixed feelings about you posting items for sale however. Especially since you haven't shipped my items from 3 years ago - including a Thatcher Perkins pack which was supposed to include the same wheels you're posting about here. You still have $364.90 of my money, and I have none of the items you promised. I'll send you a PM so that we can settle up, now that you've got things back in order.

In the meantime, a warning to others that Gary is a valuable member of the LEGO AFOL community, but a terrible seller.

Did you bring up the issue 3 years ago? just wondering why he's still allowed to post let alone make new selling threads.

Well what @sidersdd says is correct in many ways, I will not deny that I still owe some people their just due.... but here's some background... even a comment by him...

    http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion/15795/garys-back-or-at-least-trying#latest

I am currently on a fixed income (on the dole, as you Brits would say), pending my 62nd birthday when I can start getting retirement income next July. The biggest problem has been just paying my existing bills and utilities.

I did comment in my first post about selling here, that the money was going to ship out other (namely much older) orders.

Right now I am in the process of sending very old orders to James in NZ, Matthew in AUS, John in USA, and Jonathan in the UK. In the last 2 years postal rates have gone thru the roof.

For anyone questioning my sincerity please ask BrickBin Bricklink seller Terry. I owed him over $900 in LEGO sales. Fortunately for him, he had a business meeting here in Michigan, and was able to pick up his order in person (fortunate for both of us). He can confirm just how bad things have been for me, seeing it first hand.

But yes... right now I am in a catch-22.... trying to sell some items to pay for older orders just makes those old order folks angry... and understandably so. But for me it's is a way to try to speed up trying to make things right.

    Gary

P.S. sidersdd... I'm not sure how far away in Indiana you live from me (in the next door state of Michigan) in metro Detroit... but if you were to make a trip here (with such low energy prices) to pick up your pricey shipping charges bulky order... I would throw in $100 worth of extra old LEGO to make it worth your while. And you can see for yourself just how things have been for me. :-(

One of the folks in Australia with whom I am trying to "make things right" just sent me this note not 5 minutes ago....

    Hi Gary,

I honestly ALWAYS thought in the back of my mind, that when things improved for you, you would contact me again regarding this matter :-) Hope you are also pleased to know that I still reference your book till this day... and I know from talk in the background you are sorely missed in the community. Hopefully you join us all back at some stage.. no doubt some people will give you a hard time, but I think overall 99% will be happy to have you back. Take care and I hope things continue on their way upwards.

    Regards
    Mat

Yep. This was a Bricklink transaction three years ago. Back when Gary was making updates to his popular guide and taking pre-orders. He had a Bricklink store and would periodically list awesome old parts at deep discounted prices. I kept adding them to my order, through May 2012. In July 2012 Gary indicated he was going to ship the items - but it never happened. And then communication stopped. Gary had some truly difficult times in there, and I understand that. I've been patient and have believed Gary would one day ship the items. I've never dragged Gary through the mud, nor been a squeaky wheel in order to get my items. I truly believe Gary is valuable to the AFOL community, and there are numerous supporters on Bricklink who know Gary and have reassured folks that he does make good on his deals.

That being said, this sale thread struck a chord with me. He's selling some of the same items that I supposedly bought years ago. Did he still have my items? Was he still aware of my order? His store was shut down years ago, and Bricklink purges orders older than 6 months old. Also, would others start falling into the same trap as I did? Would Gary fall back into the pattern he had before - taking in lots of orders, but not being able to deliver them?

I'm just posting to warn others of the potential delays you may have in dealing with Gary. As Gary says - it's a catch-22. He needs sales today in order to ship out orders from the past. So, one might say, I should actually be *encouraging* others to purchase from Gary, so that he can get enough money to ship my items. The problem is Gary has been making sales on his guide for the past two years and that still hasn't been enough to get my items shipped. So, I don't know what it would take.

Granted, as Gary reminds me, my order is rather bulky. One of the items I purchased from him was an old wooden storage box. This was to be a gem in my collection.

I've received a good email from Gary acknowledging he still has my items and we're working on a way for me to receive them.

Just to let folks know... a relative lives in the town next door to sidersdd (I never knew that), who will be visiting here in Michigan. So I'm coordinating a holiday pickup for him from the town next door to his.

Thanks Gary. And thanks for the email. I'm looking forward to receiving the items. The palm trees will likely find their way into a display I'm doing at Brickworld Indy in March.
