What's your favourite LEGO Ideas set to date?

Just thought I'd ask the question, following a recent post on my weblog about my nominations for "Ideas Set(s) of the Year" in different categories, which in turn was inspired by a post on Brick Fanatics.

Of the sets that have been released to date, which is your favourite of the LEGO Ideas sets?

Mine is currently the Exo Suit, all biases aside, based on the overall experience. The Ecto-1 is a very close second.

A tough decision, but I would just about lean towards the Ecto-1 I think. I love the Exo-Suit and appreciate that the flimsiness of those shoulder covers does evoke the original design, but it still frustrates me when they come off!

The Ecto-1 on the other hand is really about as good as it could be at minifigure scale in my opinion. A Slimer figure would have completed the set, but I am happy with the four Ghostbusters and accurate representation of their vehicle.

Definitely the Ghostbusters car, which is almost perfect and a great display piece. The BTTF DeLorean was a little bit of a disappointment, I thought (though I bought it too). None of the others hold any interest for me - I've never understood the Minecraft craze. Why do I need that when I have LEGO? Can't wait for the Big Bang Theory set, and hope Wall-E triumphs soon.

Of unreleased sets though, two excellent Winter Village proposals are high on my list at the moment:

Winter Village Train Depot - https://ideas.lego.com/projects/16279
Winter Village Castle Keep - https://ideas.lego.com/projects/88167

I need both of these for my holiday display, so forgive me for mentioning and everybody get supporting! :o)

Ecto-1 (the best minifig scale car Lego has ever made), and the Mars Curiosity Rover; a great model with a very clever and realistic suspension system. The birds will be good.

Ecto-1 probably followed by the Rover.

Ecto-1 for me too. Good combination - iconic and easily recognisable, nice build for the car, and four good (although could have been better) minifigs.

yep ecto 1 for me as well, enjoyed the build, love the minifigures [even if there are issues with them, they're plenty good enough for me], the car looks great and i still get a smile from seeing the whole set on display even now.

as the question is to date, not just this year second place for me would be the minecraft set. it evokes the game really well, the microscale figures are desperately cute [and much better than the minifigures in the sets out now] and it just works.

Ecto 1 - great build, great minifures, nice as a display piece
Exo-suit - interesting build, the minifigures and turtle were a nice added bonus to the set
Delorean - only makes the list for the minifigures, its a shame it suffered from such a poor design because its my favourite movie franchise and should really hold the top spot!

The only other ideas set i own is the RI which I haven't opened yet, and if I'm completely honest it was an impulse buy during double VIP points.

I wish I could say Back to the future, but the car does not look right so I will go with Ecto-1....which might possibly be the best Lego car ever made.

Ecto-1 is my fave. Everything about it is perfect imo

You can only judge sets if you own them, that also shows I had/have no interest in the sets I missed besides the NASA Mars Science Laboratory. I like all of them they are very different to normal LEGO sets and it's a refreshing build experience for small/medium sized sets. They each have their own unique features and aspects.

    LEGO Minecraft Micro World:
    +Microfigures
+Printed Parts (extras are a bonus)
    +Customisable
    +Compact
    +Overall Display Value
-1x1 tiles are very boring to put together
    -No hoverboard

    Back to the Future DeLorean:
    +Minifigures
    +Printed Parts
    +3 in 1
    +Opening Doors
    +Greebling
    +Flight
    +Overall Display Value
-Exposed Inner structure (Brick 1X1 W. 1 Knob's are showing through the bodywork)

    Ghostbusters Ecto-1:
    +Minifigures
    +Printed Parts
+Minifigure Stand (Design is very clean and effective)
    +Roof greebling
    +Overall Display Value
    +Metallic Silver Elements
    -No Slimer or Ghost
-No Ghostbusters logo on the minifigures arms
    +SNOT building all over!
    +Angled window building technique
    +Proton Packs

    Exo-Suit:
    +Minifigures
    +Homage to Classic Space
    +Peter Reid Design
    +Peter Reid style greebling!
    +Overall Display Value
    +Addition of Peter Reid's Turtle
    +Addition of a Platform
    +Very unique building experience
    +Marketing (viral video and photographs)

    Research Institute:2
    +Printed Part
-One of the vignettes are unfinished
    +Dinosaur Skeleton

Exo-Suit for me. Etco-1 in second place, Research Institute in 3rd. But the Exo-Suit is the clear winner for me.

For me, there wasn't enough of a connection with the movie to make the Ecto-1 my top choice, even though the vehicle is iconic enough! Did anyone else have a similar feeling?
  • Bosstone100Bosstone100 Member Posts: 1,431
Ecto-1 by far. Delorean was horribly disappointing.
  • sklambsklamb Member Posts: 516
Hard for me to be sure, as I've yet to actually build one, but judging from the reviews and photos, I'd say Mars Curiosity Rover. I'm quite certain that the upcoming Birds set will far surpass all of them as far as I'm concerned, though.

Most disappointing is unquestionably the Delorean, which doesn't look like the original car at all. I enjoyed the movie, but the set didn't appeal to me in the least.
