Sorting

Hi I am here to ask how you sort the series 3 and 4 packs.
I sort them by feel like looking for a snowboard or a skateboard,shovel, etc.
I am going with my school on an East Coast trip.
I ordered many packs off bricklink and I sold them on eBay for more but I sold them sorted.
Now I will get them on Monday but I will already be gone...
When I leave my dad will sort them and ship them out but because he's never done any of these I'm afraid he'll mess up.
Any Suggestions on how to help him?
