Went back tonight to get The LEGO city brictober set and they had over 20 ninjago sets and only one Batman set so I grabbed it. They did put out all the LEGO city sets to buy and last week the Batman sets were guarded behind the counter. So bought a few of The LEGO city jungle sets.

It's funny how each TRU is operated.  My only TRU is an hour away since my local one closed 2 years ago, but they refuse to sell any of the Ninjago or Batman Bricktober sets until after the 4 weeks are over per LEGOs orders.  And she said she didn't know what they were to do with them after Bricktober was over....sell them or send them back.  Did I mention I hate this TRU?  This was also the same TRU that told me polybags didn't count towards the $50 total...."the signs say 'construction sets', so that means LEGOs in boxes only".

^I've been hearing the "construction" excuse all way back to 2012 when I still lived in NC, I believe the giveaway at that time were booster packs of Ninjago cards or something, and I had a handful of polys and CMFs (I believe the threshold was only like $20 or something too!).  Just like everyone here has mentioned many times when it comes to promos, YMMV at TRUs.  It's terrible that you don't have any other options really if you need to go to TRU.  I feel for you, had my own share of difficulties lately.

I can't believe the store I go to ran out of Week 3 Bricktober sets, unless they were just being lazy and didn't want to check the back room. Like, what?! I guess people actually wanted the City minifigs.
  • MooreFXMooreFX Member Posts: 84
I stopped by each Sunday morning this October.  Our store has run out of each set before mid-week this year, even the city set. I was hoping to buy extra sets, but not this year. The store didn’t let anyone buy the promotional sets alone, only way to get them was to spend at least $50 each week. The first couple of weeks that was easy, the last two weeks I bought sets that weren’t ones I would have bought otherwise. I also got caught up in the S@H VIP and other promotions. October was an expensive month.
  • JooTogJooTog Member Posts: 945
    I managed to get:
    - 1 Ninjago: Because there was a set on sale I wanted to buy; otherwise I would have skipped this one.
    - 2 TLBM: First one free with sets on sale I wanted; the second free with sets that I might not have bought otherwise.
    - 2 City Jungle: Both with sets on sale I wanted.
    - 1 LEGO: Free with a set on sale I wanted ( #75179 mentioned above). Thinking about grabbing a second one today after work.

In all cases, there were plenty left on Sunday/Monday, but gone by Friday.
I wonder if they are holding back so they can put them on sale in November.

Anyway... first year I get all four of them :-)

@JooTog , if they were holding them to sell later, don't you think they'd let people buy them outright if they asked to purchase one separately?

My only advice is keep checking back for possible returns of the weekly sets and/or TRU warehouses sending them to brick and mortar stores!

My local store ran out of Batman sets the week of the promotion. Had none until end of week 3, when they put 30 out on shelf. No idea if they were found in the back, or they got more in.

At my local store they were letting you buy it for $19.99.
By holding up until after the promotion they would "minimize" the amount of sets that go for free.
    Again, just a thought.

It sounds like these promos are working exactly the way promos are supposed to work, getting people to buy stuff they otherwise would not purchase in order to get the promo item. It also helps people overlook the typical TRU markup.

I sorted the eBay sold listings for "Bricktober", and some folks manage to get multiple copies, usually one seller at each change in distance. I would not be surprised if these sellers had an inside connection that allows them to pick up "leftovers" before they hit the shelves for sale.
  • BrickByBrickBrickByBrick Member Posts: 748
@JooTog I didn't think of that. You could be right...

TRU has a build-and_take BB8 event this coming Saturday (Oct 28). I notice when I go to their website that there is a popup that tells you about the event and a link to go register for the event. I go to that site frequently and attend all the build events and I've never seen that type of popup/reservation warning about any of their other build events. Online it said my local store had 30 spots, not sure if that is a hard number or not. If you are interested in reserving a spot here is the link:

    http://reserve.toysrus.com/events.html#/map

Might just be a new thing on their site that is going to popup for all events going forward but I believe in "better safe than sorry". I've noticed a number of other improvements on their site so this might just be something new they've implemented for all events.

They have been doing it for several months. I know they did it for the Princess Leia build.
  • ReesesPiecesReesesPieces Member Posts: 1,131
They had this for a while now but my store only started going by the signup since the ninjago build.  They had bags ready for the people that signed up so we could skip the line.  People that didn't sign up had to wait and bag their own pieces.

Im tempted to run to a TRU on Sunday to see if they have any of the final week figure sets (The 'alternate cmfs') in stock. I have thought about going to buy a set tonight or tomorrow and get one, but not sure.

This is probably going to be a YMMV thing, but has anyone tried to get both the Bricktober pack and one of the Pod polybags for free with purchase?  I recall people having success with that using the minifig pack and the... Rebels A-Wing Pilot poly?

I think it is a YMMV, I got a free #40268 R3-M2 with a purchase of 30 or more, and it 'stacks' with the Bricktober if you buy more than 50. There were signs up in the aisle as they still had these in stock.

Came here to post this.  I saw signs for free #40268 OR #40228 (Geoffrey & Friends) with a $30+ Lego purchase, Bricktober set with $50+ Lego purchase, and a Star Wars purchase with ANY SW purchase (didn't say it had to be a Lego purchase but the sign was in the Lego aisles).  I assume they'd all stack if you met the price threshold but I can't be sure since I didn't purchase anything.  I'd insist that they give me all applicable promos since they didn't say you could only get one of them.

On another note, it sucks that $40228 is now $5.99 as they were $10 way back when they first released and I burned a $10 rewards certificate on it for someone else.  Oh well...  I might buy one for myself at that price just because...

Also, that store had ~20 Bricktober Batman sets on the shelf and still had ~10 Ninjago ones.  Last week, they only had Ninjago ones.  So, unless they just got a new shipment in, it looks like they're waiting 2 weeks before putting them out for sale (assuming they still have week 3 sets available).

My local store had the same signs @MugenPower mentioned above, and they were running the pod promo as indicated on the website also (no signs on this). I got #5004916 Kai's Dojo Pod and #5004920 Ski Pod (one of them free).

I did not attempt to stack promos, but might try later if I decide to buy #70616 Ice Tank and/or #41324 Snow Resort Ski Lift.

Went to go get the little bb8 build and take set. It's small but pretty cool. Also had some decent deals, had been passing on Battle on Scarif due to price but got it for like 21 bucks with the in store coupon. Tough to beat.

Another day, another discount that can't be used with Lego. Received an email with an offer for a $25 "gift card" with $100 purchase; in store only. But, unlike real gift cards, this one is only good 12/1-12/24 and has the usual huge list of exclusions.

What in-store coupon is that?  I have this set already, but I'd get another at that price.

In store coupon, was 40% off four sets, at-st, battle on scarif, first order storm trooper and vader transformation I believe. They handed the coupon when they gave us the bb8 build. Scarif was already 20% off then the 40% off that price.

Just got back from TRU, they ran out of both R3-M2 and Geoffrey so they gave me a poe's x-wing polybag. I only went for the Bricktober week 4 figures, so oh well, free is free, but I would have preferred a Dojo Pod as it said online. Don't know why they didn't have that on the signs at my store. Anyone know why there's a variation of promos?
  • ReesesPiecesReesesPieces Member Posts: 1,131
the BB8 is simple and plain but much better than expected.  The Jeffery and the bricktober promos both worked but I did not see the dojo pods out.  The 40% also definitely a bonus.  It looms like Toys r us is definitely being aggressive with its marketing and pricing after the chapter 11.  Good for them.

Went today a got the BB-8 build. While there. I got #60160 for $47.99 and went with #40228 for the "free" set. There were no signs for the Bricktober Minifigures so I thought they were out. When I checked out they pulled out the Minifigures and they also came up free. Long story short I only spent $47.99 and got two free sets.
  • ReesesPiecesReesesPieces Member Posts: 1,131
yup...I was little under the $50 mark but was given both promos.  they actually ran out of the cmf bricktober pack which I wanted so I got the city one.

Got to the store we signed up at around 1:30 and they still had quite a few of the build left.  They didn't really set ours aside either; the worker mentioned it was really more for those that got there early, to skip the line kind of thing.  They had run out of coupons by that point, but they didn't have the sets on the coupon anyway.  Went to another TRU afterwards as I was on the hunt for something else and got coupons there, but they also didn't have any of the sets on the coupon.  I did spot a couple of the Ninjago Battlepod stashed behind the Bricktober sets, but I left them behind.

Went to TRU for the BB8 build, they had plenty to last the day so no one left empty handed. Also got a Lego StarWars poster plus they had a bonus build at a side table where you were able to make/take a Lego Fidget Spinner

Wow, so two of the TRU's in my area ran out of the Bricktober set with the Cheerleader in it. They still had tons of Ninjago and Jungle ones though. Glad I got one during the promo, but was hoping to get another 1-2 of them.

So is Walmart. Check their recent rollbacks. Looks like this could be an interesting holiday season.

Im expecting Amazon, Walmart, Jet.com, and maybe even TRU, to have a LOT on sale for at least 20-25% this season. Having said that, nothing will probably be on sale.

I remember last winter when target had a 20% off coupon that applied to lego.  Amazon would price match the 20% off.  Then target would price match amazon plus allowed you to use the 20% coupon.  Amazon would now price match this new price.  It kept going until some of the sets were almost 60% off.
  • ReesesPiecesReesesPieces Member Posts: 1,131
Amazon also price matched multiple stores so they would match a percent off and also match a buy1get1 50% off.   There were some crazy deals to be had.

Wow, I really like that free SW fidget spinner! Our TRU did not have that 'extra' build otherwise we would have gotten one for my oldest. We had our reservation but waited in line like everyone else (got there at 12:10 pm). They let me make and take a BB-8 which was very nice of them. After we had shopped and there were no lines at the BB-8 build I asked the lady if I could get one for my son's best friend (who was unable to come with us). She asked that I give it a bit more time. I did and a bit later she brought me a bag with the parts and instructions. I enjoyed sitting there building them together with my oldest boy. We did get the 'Battle On Scarif' at 60% off total...snagged the last one. That set I've wanted for myself as I think its great. I figured once my boy saw it he too would like it and he did so we will build it together. :) He picked out the City Fishing Boat set. There were no Bricktober sets to be found anywhere but they had about a dozen of the Geoffrey sets on the shelf. We did the scavenger hunt and each got a poster and then when we checked out they gave us a SW poster of Poe and BB-8 with the X-Wing blowing up in the background. They did not have the Kai Battle Pod on the shelves but when I asked they did have it behind the counter. Overall a fabulous experience for sure. And my son's best friend LOVED getting the BB-8 when he gave it to him.

So I asked about the bricktober sets today, and my TRU said they never even received any due to hurricane Harvey.  Hard to believe since they had the signs up all month.
  • MegtheCatMegtheCat Member Posts: 500
^My stores (went to 2 different locations for TLBM set) had them & we were flooded all over the place after Harvey, with shipments held up to pretty much everywhere. But it has been about two months...
