I really miss the BOGO50% and TRU using the actual RRP.

Those seem to be rarer and rarer at TRU these days.

Found #5004408 Rebel A-wing Pilot polys at TRU, so picked up 4.
They also had #5002113 Friends promo poly, so I bought the 2 they had for $.01 each.
In the clearance/damaged bin there was a #42032 Compact Tracked Loader for 50% off rrp.  It had been opened, but the only thing that seems to be missing is a sticker sheet.

If you are patient, you can actually get a deal at TRU. First thing to do is keep an eye on eBay for TRU/BRU gift cards sold at a discount. Then wait for a decent sale, usually on a new item before the price is jacked up. I bought more from TRU this past holiday season than from Lego direct, not that it was a lot.

See, it is stuff like this that makes me loathe TRU. IMO it should not be a homework assignment to get a good price via a sale. It should just be a sale. If I have pile up gift cards bought at discount, find a promo code or rewards (that actually work, and stack, during a sale), use some specific card for cash back, look at the retail price from a site like brickset to ensure the price is not raised, then wait for the perfect storm of having all of this in place when a set ISN'T over RRP, it is just not worth it to me.

I had some TRU rewards expiring. Everything was priced so much higher than the rrp. It is such a bother to have to look up each price for price matching, even to the online TRU price. I went ahead and signed up for a credit card and got 15% off for the day, and used my rewards up.  I must have spent a half hour at the counter.  My son told me TRU isn't going to be around much longer.  It wasn't busy for such a big store on a Friday afternoon after-school. Walmart is right next door, so I don't understand the in store price increase.

As consumers, it is in our best interest for TRU to remain open and compete with WM, Target, and Amazon. I hate their price hikes just as much as the next person but there are times when they do have some decent deals. If TRU wasn't around, we'd have one less brick and mortar retailer for price matching and not waiting for shipping for an online deal. I didn't hear the sales report, but as far as I know they are doing fine as a business and should be around for at least the immediate future.

They just remodeled one TRU in my area, are about to start on another one, and built a brand new one. It's not going anywhere any time soon.

That and we are the extreme minority. Most go in and pay their prices and think nothing of it.

To TRU's credit, none of the aforementioned competitors offers "make and take" nor frequent Lego affiliated days like they do. Behind the Lego Store, TRU should be second for any Lego fan if they want events.

Sorry I mentioned what my son said. He has a good friend that has worked at our local TRU for years.  He is the night manager now, works another day job too, and is worried about the store closing.  That is all I know, which is nothing really.
  • pharmjodpharmjod Member Posts: 2,916
Toys R Us is about as simple as it can be. Buy some 15-20% off gift cards whenever the appear on eBay, which is fairly common. Then just wait for a sale. Just about any sale. TRU can be frustrating, but I bought a TON of stuff during the sale before Thanksgiving. I didn't even have any gift cards. If I had, the prices would have been 52% of MSRP. Sets like Sandcrawler, Volvo front loader, tons of architecture, Star Wars. The list goes on. It was simple.

You want to talk about complicated. KMart Shop Your Way Rewards. You can get some insane deals with that, but it is a headache just trying to figure out how it works.

Via eBay, TRU has #75912 Lego Speed Champions Porsche 911GT Finish Line for $29.99 + Free Shipping.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEGO-Speed-Champions-Porche-911GT-Finish-Line-75912-/172379849067?_trkparms=5373:0|5374:Featured

Yes, they marked up the MSRP by $5, but it's still 40% off sans local tax.

You can elect for pick up at a nearest TRU if they have it in stock, or just get the free shipping.

You can't get TRU regular member rewards points this way, but if you use eBates you can get 1% back once you activate it for the site before purchase. And of course, you get 30 cents as eBay Bucks for purchasing it.

According to The Brick Fan, Hong Kong had a building event for TLBM. I think it's possible that this could be the build for the U.S. Nice, especially looks like Emmets car.

Toys'R'Us Canada has a few sets on BOGO50% off clearance, limit 2 each:

    70335 - Nexo Knights Ultimate Lavaria 70335 - $7.78
    70310 - Nexo Knights Knighton Battle Blaster 70310 - $7.78
    70331 - Nexo Knights Ultimate Macy 70331 - $7.78
    21302 - Ideas The Big Bang Theory - $ 41.98

I'm not really into TBBT, but at this price I figured it wouldn't hurt to get a couple as part packs.
  • JooTogJooTog Member Posts: 945
Mini Batmobile free with any LEGO purchase of $30 or more.

Dimensions BOGO 40% off; excludes starter packs.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,787
Getting 'sale fatigue' on Dimensions, especially since many of these have been seen for for 40-50% without having to buy another at regular price.

Especially since there have been sightings of the older dimension sets at the 99 cent store. I was only able to find bart Simpson and the bad cop from the lego movie. They were 99cents.

Hey, what part of [US] in the thread title did you not understand? ;p

    J/K.

Nice to see other TRU offers in our northern neighbor.
Those of you border folks may have a reason to make that crossing.

Not a deal, but notably the local TRU's near me are selling TLBM CMF's for the proper $3.99 price again. There were piles available also.

The Brick Fan has confirmed a TRU building event. Oddly, the build is called Emmet's Bat-Car, but I think it's an excellent parts pack. Here's more info:

Another wonderfully priced item at my local TRU. (picture doesn't show, but there were several boxes of it)

^^ My local TRU had a bunch of those at RRP leading up to Christmas but they all disappeared shortly afterwards. I'm thinking they got sent back for whatever reason as I doubt someone bought them all.

Related/unrelated - just got an email from ToysRUs that Rewards accounts were compromised between November 11 and January 17. Verified it by going directly to TRU.com. May want to change your passwords.

    I'm on the site.
    Can confirm. Pop-up window reads:

"Toys“R”Us IT security team identified an attempt to gain unauthorized access to Rewards“R”Us accounts between November 11, 2016 and January 17, 2017. We do not believe your account was accessed during this time frame and have no reason to believe that your password was compromised.  However, out of an abundance of caution, we are encouraging all of our loyalty members to reset their passwords.

Toys“R”Us IT security team, huh.  I envision your store's newest employee, sitting at his post (a desk in the storage room) staring at the computer screen picking his nose.

Went to a TRU today and 70325 Infernox Captures the Queen was marked clearance. The price was $14.98, a whopping 40% off! TRU hardly ever has that kind of discount.

Are the TRU Building Events really only for children, or can adults partake in the fun too? I mainly ask as my son is only 5. Maybe he could pass for 6? I'd just hate for him to miss out.
  • JenniJenni Member Posts: 1,390
@Switchfoot55 It depends on the store, generally mine have been pretty flexible. I miss the one that closed, they'd give me all the leftovers.

@Switchfoot55 They are very easy about it and don't really care, as long as you are enjoying it. :)

My local TRU are sticklers. I showed up and the assistant manager of the store (and the person coordinating the event) asked where are my children. I told him I don't have any. He said this event is only for kids. I told him it didn't say an age limit on the ad. But I wanted to avoid a scene, so I left.

Should have told him that while you are not 6, you can throw a tantrum like a 6 yr old unless you get the giveaway.

If I can't bring the grandkids along I usually wait until the line dies down & ask for one.I don't need anything that badly that I'd deprive kids standing in line.It also helps that the employees know me & the fact I buy plenty of Lego. The Bat-Signal build was the only event that had so many kids show up I came out empty handed.

These events are always while I'm at work, so I've never been able to partake. My daughter might actually like one.

But that wouldn't prove a point.

I'm not a greedy person. If there's a giveaway, I'll take one and be done.
And there were more than enough for anyone who showed up.

If may seem trivial because I am an adult, but what irked me was they were not following their own established guidelines. That's all.

I eventually got one. A friend gave me one. He was at another TRU where they followed their "small print."

Well, I've decided to give it a shot. Whether or not I get one isn't important. My son is just loving all this Lego Batman stuff and would really enjoy adding this car to his expanding Batman collection.

    Fingers crossed I guess...

I wonder if they mention if you cannot use it on the 3D screening because then you can probably use it to go to Cinemark and get the Kiss Kiss Batman
  • JooTogJooTog Member Posts: 945
    Got mine today.
It's a "collectible" card with a code in the back to redeem online for a $7.50 certificate.

Here's an excerpt from the certificate (emphasis added):

    MOVIE CERTIFICATE
This certificate is not a reserved admission. Please present it at a participating theater box office for admission. Certificate is valid through the listed expiration, or if it is for a particular movie, while film is in theaters, whichever is sooner. Certificate is valid at participating theaters at any showing including those designated as "no coupons, no passes" in local theater guides.

In Los Angeles at least you can still go to a movie theatre and see a movie for $6.50 in the handful of single screen theatres scattered through out; and they are nice theatres, not trashed up.
