I dunno, they're a business. [email protected] doesn't have too many sales, and I don't see them as stackable. If you want the best price on something, I've always found that putting some work into it the best way. Otherwise there are plenty of options available where it's good enough. And that's fine. But I'm checking Target Cartwheel constantly, sales threads. Probably just me, but I'm a Sunday coupon cutter as well.

At least [email protected] does not have all of their RRP up by 10-15% over. Besides the 'no exclusives on sale' ban in the US and the limited restrictions (like if you buy a Friends set you get the friends poly promo bag) they are fairly straight forward, which I like.
I do not have to see LEGO raise their RRP whenever they have a sale coming.

Though I found out that in the LEGO B&M store you cannot stack the poly promo's now (That is I bought 75 dollars in stuff including a Friends set, but only was allowed the Flower Cart promo, not the Friends Promo).
Apparently they have had this policy in place at LEGO for a while but the store was recently told to enforce this policy now, and they got less of the polybags in the store, so my guess is they are going to run out fairly quickly.
What is silly is as I was walking out I noticed the Friends Macaw Fountain was on sale for 2.98 USD so I picked up those and the Bear one and Orangutan one too as they were all on sale for 2.98 USD, Then got the friends promo bag. That is how I then realized the did not give me the friends on initially (yesh was making an assumption and almost bit me)

    Wow....entitled much!

My store as well..not a whole lot left...mostly Galaxy Squad and Chima and some City...and a few overpriced sets....like #76005 Spider Man Daily Bugle Showdown for $66.xx and #6862 Lex Luthor for $34.99. But since my 'entitlement' status, I didn't buy them.

    Well, that's just wrong. :-1:

My store had some good things left although the manager thought it would be cleared out today. Still had some new sets- snowplows, Chima, city. Still have Bike Shop, trains, technic, Hobbit, some Star Wars. The things that were marked up were annoying but there was a good amount at MSRP as well.

^ @Margot It might be because our TRU is much smaller...it's 25+ years old and isn't a Babies R Us either.
Does your store blacken out the UPC Code on the products? Our store was told by the liquidators to cross out the codes so people can't return items. Like the store ISN'T closing. One employee was going to put a huge "X" across the front of the Lego box with a marker. I had to have a discussion with them about that. I asked her..."so if I walk in next week to return something...you gonna let me?" Response..."Uh..well no, there's no returns." Right, so you won't take returns, even if I try, you tell people before checking out there's no returns and on the receipt it says "All Sales Final." I understand all that, it's pretty clear...and that's perfectly fine, so why do you have to take a permanent marker to the UPC Code and then scribble on the front of the box? People are using these as gifts! Do you really think that this 40 year-old gentlemen behind me in line is buying Calico Critters for himself? Maybe...but I doubt it...chances are they're a gift. Now they've quit markering the front of items...they still mark the UPC Codes.

I think it's so you don't buy a bunch of stuff and return it to another store? They just made a line across the UPC with a black marker on mine. Markering across the front is not cool.

Considering some of the strange stuff I've seen in the past at TRU it's smart for them. I've bought sale sets in the past and returned them and gotten more money than I paid, it was bizarre and unexpected. It's just what their system told them to return even with a receipt.
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 837
It's what I thought too...but our next TRU store is over an hour away (one way). It's not like I'm making any money on a return.
  • KralaskanKralaskan Member Posts: 208
No deals to be had here at all. They have nothing new either. Fail, wallmart and target have better deals.

Went to TRU today and they had 1 darkseid set, they honered the target price of $59

Can any one confirm Galaxy squad was on clearance again? A few people have said 30% off. On the website it's only slight discounts and not all sets.
  • ChubblesChubbles Member Posts: 459
30% in store on all sets, online does not reflect that. I'm waiting until it hits 50% again.

Galaxy Squad is 30% off in-store. There is also an in-store coupon for an additional 20% off all clearance items you can print from the website right now, if anyone is interested.

Confirmed at my tru as well. Lots of inventory despite having two (right?) 50% sales prior to Christmas.

Lots of GS at my local TRU as well, 30% off. I feel like I'm the only person in town that likes that theme. How can anyone not like the closest thing we will ever get to Starship Troopers in LEGO form?

The inventory at TRU just sits there and sits there. I need it to go away because every time I look at it I have a little argument in my head about buying more (and believe me, I don't need any more of it).

What I want is a deal on #60062 Arctic Icebreaker. TRU exclusives are ridiculously overpriced, that one more than any I have seen.

Why is it that TRU-Canada still has Research Institute available/ship to home & also blue baseplates in stock? Are Lego not as popular up north?

I am also a big fan of Galaxy Squad. Was finally able to find a Titan for 30% then 20% off. Was happy with that as the are pretty much sold of from all tru's in the area,

40% all Lego at the stores being liquidated. A few bargains to be had in my area but not a ton. Supposedly someone came in and bought a TON of stuff when it was at 20% off. Got a #42030 Volvo set at 40% 0ff.

  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308

I was told it's only about 10 stores.
  • IwantmorelegosIwantmorelegos Member Posts: 42
I was told by a manager it was around 20 stores but he didn't know how many for sure. Mostly in the south and middle of the country. Nothing on the west coast. They (TRU) sold land that they owned (and had increased in value) to pay for a debit refinance they did earlier this year. I guess they refinanced in order to survive a few more years.
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 837
TRU couldn't have gotten much for the store/land they owned here in Iowa. It's a 30+ year old building that's never been remodeled and wasn't a Babies R Us. The JC Penny's across the street at the mall just announce today that it's closing also.
There wasn't much left for LEGO....mosly Galaxy Squad and Chima left. No Super Heroes, Technic, Friends. Only Star Wars sets were 10 Jabbas Sail Barge ($71).
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
Few Super Heroes left at my store but they were all marked up. Here's what they had.

It's TRU, so expect some of it to already be marked up 10-20% to begin with.

True, although with a 40% reduction posters up in ours, higher rrp or not, that shelf would be empty. Most consumers browsing in TRU haven't a clue what the actual retail is but instead are just drugged and hypnotised by seeing
    'f o r r r r t y

40% off at TRU is like 20% to 25% off anywhere else.

I hadn't been to TRU in a month and found out today that my favourite is one of those closing. I went out to see how the AFOL that works there is doing and shop of course. This store shipped all their LEGO out on December 23rd.

@brokenapathy23‌ I just did a simple Google search and it pulled news articles on the Nashville store closing and also the one two hours away in Chattanooga. While not foolproof, that would probably let you know about the ones near you.

That's baseline for my local TRU. Many of the sets are marked up 30% to 50%, especially Super Heroes (e.g. Catwoman Chase for $16.99, Lex vs. Superman for $26.99, and Funhouse Escape for $59.99).

This TRU is in a poorer section of town. The other local TRUs would have cleared out at 10% off. The whole store is mostly 50-60% off of everything and I was in shock at how much was left. Lots of bikes, motorized vehicles, My Little Pony for @Pitfall69 .. etc...

Most of the newer sets were not marked up at all. The older sets were though, Republic Gunship was $40 over RRP.

That's what was supposed to happen at my sale store as well. But they only ship out unopened boxes and the manager decided to put EVERYTHING out on the shelves before Christmas, so no unopened boxes. lol. He seems like a really cool guy and is moving to my regular TRU so I made sure to get to know him. Poor guy knew that everyone was getting the axe for over a month before he was allowed to tell them, talk about stress. It's not a good situation at all.

That's funny....our TRU had Catwoman Chase for $17.99, Lex vs. Superman for $27.99 and Funhouse Escape for $62.99....and all were purchase at 20% off. People go crazy for clearance...they have no clue what RRP is....they just complain Lego is expensive.

They packed up the shelves at this store. Of course then the inventory system noticed that they were out of LEGO and sent them a box of every single set the next day. Why is TRU going out of business I wonder.

Unfortunately the store that @margot is talking about is one that I used to hit up fairly frequently over the last 20 years. Found some good stuff there over that time.

^Yes, you can, but I already have one. I know @pharmjod got one. :-) I got plenty as it was.

The mechdragon was $35. Actually on sale and at 40% off. (didn't get one)

^ I noticed that as well...thought about it...and passed also. Is this last version of Ninjago a bust? I see these last Ninjago sets on clearance everywhere...and they just sit. My TRU is literally down to it's last sets...Galaxy Squad, Chima and the last Ninjago. Ninjago #70720, #70721, #70724, #70725 all sitting on shelves 40% or more off.
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,638
^Mechdragon is a good deal at that price. My son was given one by a friend for Christmas. I didn't really expect to enjoy it but was pleasantly surprised by it. Perhaps just because it was a style of set we have never had before.

It's all location. I rarely see clearance in general, but Ninjago seems to be a good mover around me. Either that or the stores just don't get the supply so the shelves look bare all of the time.
  • starfailurestarfailure Member Posts: 138
just realized one of my local TRUs is going out. they had very little lego left today...almost all Chima stuff, but i did find a bin with a gazillion of those Ninjago Dareth polybags. they're $3. should i buy a bunch?
  • KralaskanKralaskan Member Posts: 208
Went to our TRU today. They didn't have squat of sale except for galaxie squad stuff 30 percent off. We are not into that though.

Drove down to the Lynchburg, VA TRU... the LEGO section was pretty nice, had tons of stock(not much newer stuff), didn't look like it had been hit by the Christmas LEGO rush. But no clearance items! Asked a TRU worker where the Galaxy Squad stuff was and she said someone from a tax-exempt non-profit came by on Thursday and bought every single clearance item.... nine shopping carts full. $9,000+ of merchandise.

Hope those really do get to needy kids. I'd rather they get the stuff than me... but I'm wondering just what I missed.

Consolation prize was finding An Unexpected Gathering for $49 at a Walmart nearby.

This for sure. I got the Arctic Plane from the Lego [email protected] site when it was on sale a bit ago, as that too is a TRU exclusive, but the Icebreaker is still full price. At least the TRU website has the Icebreaker listed for retail price. In store forget it. Maybe I'll just save up enough VIP points to make the purchase better. I remember when the Lego Move Rescue set was a TRU exclusive, and it was terribly overpriced.

I tried to buy this seperate about a week ago for $4.99, which is what the tag said, but it wouldn't ring up and they said it wasn't supposed to be out until the 11th, for this promotion. It was annoying, as there were plenty on the end cap with a price tag. Oh well, not a great polybag anyways.

I never really thought about getting it but my son wanted it so I got it from target to get the free mini figure cube. I was also pleasantly surprised by the build. It also looks pretty cool too.
