was just at TRU and lego dimensions don't count towards the bricktober minifigure set.. ar well
Is that in the fine print somewhere?
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,624
Dimensions are probably classified as videogames in their system and that is the reason they don't qualify.
  • cooldude00cooldude00 Member Posts: 44
i was basically told it doesn't count as a construction toy.. i looked at it and asked how it didn't qualify considering you had to build up the pieces ..anyways i gave up and didn't proceed with the purchase... was 3 for $25 on the fun packs
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 835
Sometimes it depends upon your TRU manager too.  When I had a TRU in town, before it closed 2 years ago, wouldn't let me apply polybags towards Bricktober.  First she told me the sign says "construction sets"....which I pointed out to her it says "construction sets" on the bag.  Then the second reasoning was it had to be in a box.

I was in Toys 'R' Us yesterday and Friends, Elves, and Speed Champions were all 20% off. Can't tell if that had been mentioned yet, but it was a good opportunity to get some of the Elves sets I'd missed.
  • ryjayryjay Member Posts: 1,001
A lot of sets seem to go 20% at some time at all stores....and this 20% off, to me at least, hits the price point that I think should have always been the MSRP.   Which kinda means those who want it "first and now" pay a 20% premium.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,787
20% off of RRP, or 20% off of TRU's RRP?
  • YodaliciousYodalicious Member Posts: 1,366
It really depends. My TRU had the old single car Speed Champions sets at $17.99, so 20% off isn't as good as it seems. However, it had the more recent line's sets at $14.99, so the 20% off enticed me to get the one I didn't have.

well, i guess one can dress up as a chicken for Halloween if they choose. it's definitely the first time i've seen the promo since release in any of the local NYC stores that i visit.

20% off of RRP, or 20% off of TRU's RRP?
20% off of Toys 'R' Us prices, though at least with the sets I bought (#41171 and #41177), the store had them priced at RRP. I don't know whether there's any truth to this, but I feel like Toys 'R' Us marks up prices a lot less routinely than they used to. Just glancing at their website, all of last year's Elves sets are marked up, but none of this year's are. And only a handful of the Friends sets on their site have the base price marked up.
  • YodaliciousYodalicious Member Posts: 1,366
^ It used to seem that they'd be the standard RRP when first released. Then a few months later they got the TRU price bump. Now, it seems some aren't keeping the initial RRP for much longer. In my area, that's the case with everything but City sets. Those, even newer ones, are already inflated, but the other lines have held the LEGO RRP much longer.

I see the opposite. Outside of the $15 Speed Champions and some of the $20 City sets, my TRU has almost everything from 2016 at retail.

New releases at TRU are best with the discount.
older sets are getting the VHTF price bumps no matter what condition the box is in.

TRU $50 gift cards are currently $40 on eBay, in case you like shopping at TRU for LEGO, which I have a feeling a few people on this site might do occasionally.

    Thanks! In for 2.

Should be in for more but spent a lot on bricks this month.

Do you have a link to the precise listing?  I looked for ten minutes last night and only found full price gift cards.
  • TitanArchTitanArch Member Posts: 27
    ^ I found this listing:

Sadly, it says "This item is out of stock."  Searched for "toys r us gift card 50 for 40."

Dang it, guess I missed it.  Looked and looked last night but all I found was full price cards and people auctioning individual cards.

Using the 20% off gift cards from ebay, i stacked it with the Superhero sets that are currently 20% off for nice savings of 36% off RRP.

When eBay used to have better deals on gift cards (various ways of stacking promos), I checked the promoted gift cards section daily.  This is my bookmark link:

    http://deals.ebay.com/other-deals/gift-cards

I suppose now the shopping season is in starting up, there will be more GC deals in the coming weeks.  I'm sure the TRU/BRU promo will be back again soon.

Thanks for the link!  I'm really just disgusted with myself for not being able to find it despite looking for so long.  I had just assumed that the deal was over and went back to playing video games!

Im guessing we will be seeing more of these gift card deals as we approach the holiday season.

I go play videogames to distract myself from spending too much on Lego too. My wife doesn't seem to understand how much this benefits her though...

Just got the #75157 Rex AT-TE with the TRU Credit Card discount, and they gave a $25 gift card and the A-Wing Pilot poly with it.  The store I went to also had a bunch of the SA Cole clamshells out for that ridiculous $7.99, and another customer got the Friends Bowling Alley poly too.

I don't know if this question was asked before, but if I wanted the A wing Pilot and I spent $30 on another theme but then bought a battle pack, could I still get the promo?

    Just bought this:

SW Rebels frigate for 87.99 (sale price)
Kubros Destiny 15.99 (I like the game and will build it so shaddup!)

put me over $100 (use the link for the bar code to get your $25 gc or its in the back of their Holiday Gift book, available in store)

so I got the A-Wing pilot for free and the $25 gc to use in the future (December 2016)

used two TRU gcs from eBay ($80 for $100 value)

    not bad!
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
^Similar here. I used the recent ebay TRU Giftcards that were 20% on #75151 SW Clone Turbo Tank that they had on sale from RRP of $109.99 down to $99.99. So essentially got it for $79.99 plus they gave the $25 giftcard and free A-Wing Pilot poly ($4.99 value). Now that's a pretty decent deal of over 50% off RRP if all is considered.

There's a commercial with Jestro explaining the whole deal. They passed up the chance to let him be truly evil, the last line could have been "Offer exludes Lego".

Isn't a $25 GC with a 100 dollar purchase just mean you are likely only paying the actual RRP for many of the LEGO sets at TRU then?
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
@madforLEGO I've been finding awesome deals at TRU in the past half year actually. Lots of real sales right now too before you even get to the $25 GC coupon or A-wing Pilot poly added on top. Seems like the fight for Christmas sales is starting early.

I'm going back for the Rebel Frigate then. It's on sale from RRP of $109.99 down to $89.99.

Just wish I bought more of those 20% off GC on Ebay last week.

It can be if you don't choose the right sets. I used Amazon and eBay as guides for me.

Some of the sets they had sales on, I didn't really want.

But the Rebel Frigate was worth it to me esp if I could get the $25 gc (but I had to buy a few more), get the A wing pilot, and use my eBay gcs.

@josekalel You'll be hard pressed to find a better deal on it than right now. Because in-store the #75158 Rebel Frigate was a touch cheaper at $87.99 actually. So added 2 baseplates ($7.99 each) to make it over the $100 mark in order to get the $25 giftcard plus another A-Wing Pilot. But this time I realized the Bricktober Cops & Robbers set ($19.99 RRP though I feel its more of $10 value) was included also. Plus the TRU Rewards of ~$4 credit. Both of which I forgot about yesterday.

And yes I was itching for that Ahsoka figure, plus Sato is nice.
  • solid_stridersolid_strider Member Posts: 209
^So they let you use TRU Rewards, get the Bricktober set, the A-Wing Pilot, and the $25 gift card?  I tried to use Rewards dollars, but they said they wouldn't stack.  Not sure if they realized I'd get something extra to put the total over $100, though.  I also asked about the Bricktober set as an afterthought and they said it would be the A-Wing Pilot or the set, they wouldn't give out both promos.

^Not to use TRU Rewards, but to accrue Reward points. Same for the $25 giftcard, they gave me one for later use (Dec. 1st - 27th) as opposed to letting me use it on this purchase.

I guess it's a YMMV situation between different TRU stores on the Bricktober vs. A-wing.

I have several TRU near me,the closest one will not give me any free promo items if I price match Lego sets I purchase.I drive another 15 minutes to a second location and they DO give me free promo items under the exact same circumstances. It's most likely up to each stores manager on how these things are enforced. As we say YMMV

Anyone here have the item number for  that  $8 Cole minifigure?
  • JenniJenni Member Posts: 1,390
I bought a Friends set and a SW set, both on sale, they gave me both polybags, the gift card and the Bricktober set. I didn't ask about the Bricktober set, not interested, but the cash register told her to go get it so....

According to TRU I saved $93.97, but one of the RRPs they were using was inflated, plus TRU rewards.

Also I was smugly thinking that no one wants the Rebel Frigate so that's one set I don't have to buy when someone mentioned Ahsoka, sigh, life with a 12-year-old girl.

The frigate is fugly as all hell but the minifigs are sweet and you can't beat the final price after all is said and done, esp for a 900+ pc set
