I didn't qualify for a Lego promotion I was merely pointing out the fact they don't discount Hard to Find/Exclusive items and I was able to purchase one at a discount using a coupon & reduced cost giftcards. Just sharing with the community,if you want to call it bragging knock yourself out.

You made all those points regarding purchasing at less than msrp net-out-of-pocket in your informative first post.  That is cool and nice to share worth the community (rather than posting a vague "I got it 27% off msrp" comment.)  At this point,  the prohibition on sales of exclusives and hard-to-find is common knowledge.

The second post is therefore simply bragging.
Accusing the poster for bragging with a tongue in cheek comment about getting a deal on a set you can rarely get deals on is a little extreme.  I don't think anyone besides you took it as such.  The rest of us appreciate tips on scoring hard to find sets at a discount.

I think it made sense-- a discount on an item you're typically hard-pressed to find a way to get a discount on is a good deal!

I'm trying to figure out what happened to my TRU Rewards account. I had one, but never got any benefits despite a bit of shopping. Hmm.
The same thing happened to me.  The default is they will "send" you your reward after you hit $5 worth of rewards.  It will be a discreet email that you might not even ever notice.  And if you don't use it by XX/XX/XXXX date, it becomes void.  It's a sneaky trick. When I found out what happened to my rewards I pitched a fit and they gave me $5 back.  But I lost at least $15 in rewards.  Now I have it set to where it is accumulating towards the highest reward ($200) and I'll make sure I'm paying attention when I get close to the mark.
With my emails the always have in the subject..."here is you $5 rewards"  That gets my attention.  Buit no where in that subject is Toys R Us so I can see how it can be deleted and thought of as spam, especially on a phone.

And, ya, in the past they'd send your rewards as gift cards to be used whenever.  Now with expiration dates I swear they will expire on dates right before new releases in toys. This has happened on lego items, amiibo, and with action figures....rewards expire on saturday, new realeses arrive on sunday!

If I may, because squabbling sets me on edge... I think you're merely misinterpreting. Here's how I comprehend his post: in the US those sets are rarely if ever found outside of official Lego Brand Shops, and therefore are never eligible for discounts or promotions, due to the nature of their exclusivity. However, if found at external sources, such as this lucky TRU trip, you can apply discounts, which this fellow did, to get a sweet little deal on the price... it just involved a lot of driving around and looking. So, in the end, dude got a promotion and discount (just not an official Lego) discount, so where there was a will, there was a way. No more bragging than anyone else does in this forum when they get a deal (even over common knowledge things and vague in-jokes).

@monstblitz Thanks for the heads up. I need to look into this. I feel like their account system needs to be integrated, because there are too many different accounts to sign in to during the check out process!

@monstblitz That's a great tip,I also set my rewards points to the highest setting. That way it is never automatically issued without my knowing & you can just issue it yourself when it reaches a level where you'd like to use it.

Found the chicken suit guy at the Minnetonka, MN store. They had it at the customer service counter.

Lady behind the counter fought me for a few mins saying it was a promotion, and not for purchase. She finally asked over the speaker and an other employee spent the next few mins trying to explain to her that it was not a promotion, just behind the counter to try and stop people from buying them all at once.

This is a great point.  Whenever I buy something online I'm never 100% if I'm logged into my rewards account, as it's completely separate from your normal Toys 'R Us account.  Sometimes I'm automatically logged in, sometimes not.  I never know until I get most of the way through the checkout process.

You can always check if you have available rewards by logging into their computerized kiosk (usually used for baby registries, etc.). You can also print out a bar coded reward to use during that trip!

@monstblitz I have the same problem, with being unsure of whether I received rewards points. If you're ever not credited (either in store or online) there's a place on the rewards site, where you check your purchase history, and you can submit the order/confirmation number and order total (including tax) and they should post the points to your account after that.

TRU's special for this week changed to 20% off of City, Technic & Duplo. So picked #42039 24hr Le Mans Racecar using the 15% off gift cards again which works out to be about $89 before tax ($129.99 RRP).

Thanks for the info @BrickDancer! Is that 20% off instore only? I'm not seeing anything on their website, #42039 is still showing as $129.99 on their site.

There are a couple of city items I will go pick up if it is instore only.
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
@eggshenYes it's in-store only. Last week was 20% Creator, Police and Fire sets.

Another weird new thing is that you had to ask for the large Technic sets, with only a single copy on the floor with a sticker saying its a demo only. So the first trip yesterday I didn't see it and left empty handed. Went online to see if the next nearest TRU had it and saw it was supposed to be in stock at the store I was just at. So a quick call to CS desk and they pulled it from out back and had it ready for pickup.
  • eggsheneggshen Member Posts: 602
@BrickDancer awesome, thanks for the info!!! My store has done the "demo" box thing with Mindstorms but not with technic. I'm now curious if it is a company thing or if your store had some problems with loss prevention.

Watch your mail, I just got a 20% off in the "Countdown to Easter" catalog. Coupon is "in-store" only expiring on 3/26.

    Does that stack?
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
^Typically not stackable for the coupon on top of in-store sales like the current 20% off Technic & City. As I tried that a couple months ago. But the 15% off Gift Cards work perfectly fine to stack on top of the 20% coupon.
  • ColoradoBricksColoradoBricks Member Posts: 1,659
@BrickDancer , one time use, will use it on the #42052 Heavy Lift Helicopter, along with the 20% off GC from a few weeks ago.

I got the physical coupon in the mail yesterday.  Wish I could find the Slave I in a store somewhere.  I did manage to find a lone Technic Arocs in a store, which qualified for the in-store 20% off Technic promo so I didn't have to use my coupon.

They also had the promo for the free ATV set for purchases over $35 (which they only gave me after I asked about it) but I didn't notice that they had another sign for a free Ninjago Airjitzu set for purchases over $50 until I went back immediately after my purchase to see what else they had.  The sign for the ATV promo said it ends tomorrow and the one for Ninjago starts today.  I'm not sure what the Ninjago set is but I'd be more interested in the ATV anyway so didn't bother to try explaining to CS since things like this usually result in being told that I can only choose one.

I was told I could have 20% off an item, or the freebie, stupid rules.  Picked up the new Frozen castle for a bday present.  Combined with the 15% off gift cards, a total of near 30% off works for me.
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639

That is incorrect, and you should point that out to them. Ask them where it says that- they won't be able to show you anything.

Free ATV Patrol (60065) with Lego purchase of $30 or more.  Thinking back, I think the sign might've been specifically for Lego CITY purchases (which I also didn't notice until I went back) whereas the Ninjago one was any Lego.  So I guess either way, the exact promo wasn't followed.

Did you choose the Ninjago yourself and have them ring it up as part of the promo and does it show up on your receipt?  I'm thinking of taking my receipt to a closer TRU and getting whatever it is since I never got one so it's obviously not on my receipt.

    Yep.
I've since misplaced the receipt, so I can't answer the second one, but I believe that it showed up. The cashier had to ring it up.

Thanks for the replies.  I had a store return/rebuy the previous Technic set to get the free Ninjago.  I also went to another store that had a second Technic set I was interested in.  The only one in stock had a huge gash in the box thanks to the spider wrap anti-theft device so they offered to order one for me.  They manually took the 20% off and also let me get the Ninjago promo.  But something must've gotten messed up in the system with the manually entered discount and the automatic Ninjago discount because I got overcharged a bit more than $1 after tax.  I'll hopefully have the CC company take care of it since the TRU guy said it had to do with taxes... even though it didn't add up.

Anyway, that same store had 2 Slave Is and I had my 20% off coupon so I got the one that had the least amount of shelf wear/damage.  I lucked out because cashier handed me back my coupon after the transaction so I guess I'll get another use out of it.

All in all, despite the slight overcharge and the fact that the Technic set and the Slave I had more dents and creases in the boxes than I like, I can't argue with 20% off and free Ninjago sets.  I'm only dreading the potential damage to the box of the incoming Technic set since it's a big one...

I loved the Ninjago spinners. Just be careful- my first not-so-hard spin sent mine straight into the second-floor ceiling...

Because your item was still greater than $50 after the discount I suppose... Mine was $48 before tax, it's no big deal.

Used another 20% coupon & picked up 75096 Sith Infiltraitor - coupon, leftover discounted GC's and rewards points - total $51.16
And I got another free Ninjago Airjitzu (10.99)

I don't know if this was posted elsewhere, but at TRU today they had all CMFs 2 for $5. It said "Blind Bag Series regularly $2.99-$4.99" so it seemed to include Mixels as well, which were next to the CMFs. I don't know if this is at all TRUs, so YMMV, but the sign said the prices are valid from 3/11-3/26.

That would've been pretty sweet.  Mine just had a sign by the mixels (where I usually find CMF) saying that CMF were relocated to the front desk.
