I just thought this was interesting - someone is selling the unreleased set 4184 The Black Pearl on eBay, with photos of it in-hand. I have no relation to this seller, and don't want to spend that much on it now, but I thought some of you might find this interesting. The seller says this isn't slated for release until November:

Wonder how they got it so early.

When I was managing a Gamestop in Texas we sometimes received large releases two weeks in advance because they had a ship date and a street date. This was suppose to prevent world wide e-bay scalping by allowing the product to be released all at once over a large area.

However it would always back fire and some employee would snag one and sell it ahead of time.

A month in advance though is kind of hard to believe.

Apparently, the set is already being sold in some locations.

Brickset member streeker reports seeing 4 boxes on the shelf at his local Toys R Us, priced at 129.99 euros:

That shop may have made a mistake in putting it out early but it shows it's around. Perhaps streeker should join the eBay profiteering!

There was a similar kind of thing happening with the Cars 2 'Ultimate' sets, there was a guy, who was trying to sell them for double what the RRP turned out to be a month before they appeared on the shelves. It happens, I don't know how though.

It's also out on the shelves in a Polish toy store:

Obviously, TLG has started distribution and while there is an official release date, some stores who have already received their allotments have consciously or accidentally decided to break the embargo.

not sure how i'm just seeing this thread... that ebay seller was me. that picture is my dining room table. :)

i got a few of the black pearls when my local target put them out early. i hadn't seen or heard of them anywhere, so i put it up on ebay just to see how much it would get. i personally don't understand why someone would pay such a premium just to have a set a few weeks early. but i do know that some folks like that are out there. i was more than happy to provide the service for them.

in related news, someone in my LUG has reported finding the black pearl at Costco for $80.
