Microfighters - A Great Collection or Waste of Money?

Over here, the Falcons were the quickest to disappear in most places, followed closely by the X-Wing & TIE Interceptor. Some places still have a few odd AATs, Clone Turbo Tanks & Star Destroyers hanging around, the exception being Myer stores, Star Destroyers disappeared quicker than X-Wings & TIEs.

Series 2 so far, the Snowspeeders & AT-ATs are quickly becoming a rare sight, while the PT Microfighters are still in good numbers, although most stores have at least one of them in significantly lower numbers compared to the others.

For the first wave, the order of popularity in my area seemed to be X-Wing, Falcon, then everything else. I recall seeing a lot of shelves packed with AATs and Star Destroyers.
  • SithLord196SithLord196 Member Posts: 1,161
The X-Wing is still pretty plentiful around here, along with the other 5 with maybe the exception of the TIE Interceptor. Just the Star Destroyer was a pain to find. I was wondering if the minifigure that came with it was rare or something.

Not sure how I'll play the second wave. I could try waiting for it to clearance but then risk not getting them. More than likely I'll just try to grab one every other paycheck. They're pretty good for the price to me compared to, say, the $13 sets.

Australian RRP is $15.99, so I waited it the sales started rolling in, managed to grab the Series 1 vehicles for $12 each (Big W price them at $15) during a 20% off sale. Grabbed all the Series 2 vehicles during a TRU promo 2 for $25, so they worked out to $12.50 each, I didn't want to chance that the ones I wanted wouldn't vanish before a better deal surfaced.

Odd, S@H has no AATs or Star Destroyers, but all the other Series 1 show as in stock...

I'm going to assume that the Imperial Crew minifig from the Star Destroyer was needed for the MOCs of different Imperial scenes.

Thinking, as I've managed to create Phil Coulson's Lola as a Microfighter, might have consider tidying up the other two I've done so far & making them into an Ideas submission...

    Does it fly?

And by all means get rid of those God awful flick missiles!
  • VorpalRyuVorpalRyu Member Posts: 2,318
Not yet, working on getting her airborne, but not as yet, much like Mack's toy.

As for the flick missiles, they seem to be an integral part of the Microfighters design so far, so I included them for completionists sake...

    Ha!
I'm glad you got that reference
I don't know if people actually watch the Agents show
For me it's really one of the few shows with an actual plot I do watch
  • VorpalRyuVorpalRyu Member Posts: 2,318
Can't not watch it with how they've tied it in with the movies, saw Age of Ultron on Monday (which is 64×Awesome), just wish Channel 7 over here was more up to date with the episodes. Tonight's episode....Gonzalez & the 'real' Shield better look out. There is only one S.H.I.E.L.D.

    Yeah
I actually skipped last night's show to see an advanced screening myself
Pretty badass if a little predictable
What I really want to see now is Civil War
I do want to see how Agents ties in
They seem to be gearing up to go to the same place the Avengers do at the beginning of the film
And at the same time too

Just an interesting note, but I noticed that at least here in the U.S. the Republic Gunship and Homing Spider Droid Microfighters are only $7.99 through Walmart's online site, and that Target will price match (or you can get them shipped to store).

Just thought I'd let anyone interested in a small deal know.
  • VorpalRyuVorpalRyu Member Posts: 2,318
Did a redesign of the Bus, as the first wasn't quite to Microfighter scale.

@SithLord196, curious, do they have the other series two vehicles & if so what are they at your local RRP? Briefly, over here, TRUs had the Star Destroyer & AAT for $2 cheaper than the rest at one point.

I like the Bus a lot
I've been trying to find a good combo of pieces to make an Agent May fig

There should be another engine on the tail though if I recall correctly
  • VorpalRyuVorpalRyu Member Posts: 2,318
Yes, but adding the same as the ones on the main wings looked a little strange & the other two I tried looked worse, I might rework it at some point & try to put them back again. At least this is more in keeping with the scale of the SW ones now...

@VorpalRyu  Locally the Microfighters are $9.99 USD. Walmart's online store has only those two for $7.99, while the other four are still $9.99. I also found it odd that only the Episode II ones were discounted.

  • VorpalRyuVorpalRyu Member Posts: 2,318
Makes more sense than the SD & AAT, I guess, at least they are paired off together on the box art.

I've been wanting to do a minifig scale Bus for a while now
Can't get any LDD designs to look like anything but garbage as of yet
There's a lot going on in that one vehicle
  • Kevin_HyattKevin_Hyatt Member Posts: 778
Absolutely love the bus and Lola!

Round here there was a glut of AAT to start with and they were sold off cheap everywhere but now they are rare and expensive!

I only need turbo tank from series 1 now. Going to pick up the three series 2 I need at may 4th to get a yularen polybag.

Star Destroyer has been sold out almost everywhere in the US since a month ago. I expect the MF and XW to be in short supply within the next couple of months. If you want series 1 while it's still affordable, get on it!
  • leetshoeleetshoe Member Posts: 262
The MF l see everywhere. In fact that's the only one of series 1 l see. Every store has 20 of them when they only have like 3-4 of the series 2 sets.

The Homing Spider Droid at least is great for Army build.

My fellow Microfighters fans, I've started final renders of a little project, keep an eye on the Lego Ideas thread. *trying not to be nervous*

And too bad the Bus got blown up
I don't see Coulson's making a plan to blow up his most prize possession though
  • Kevin_HyattKevin_Hyatt Member Posts: 778
    Nice one @VorpalRyu . I want it
  • VorpalRyuVorpalRyu Member Posts: 2,318
Thank you @Kevin_Hyatt. We have yet to see the episode over here @Solarious (don't worry, I'm not one to care about spoilers, the net exists, spoilers will happen), but I'm hoping this will work in my favour, as it means that TLG are less likely to release a regular retail line set.

Hope everyone here can keep this under their hats for now:
I checked with them (spoke to CS) about this & its perfectly legal to do so, two more Microfighters are part of the project, but what numbers should I have before putting out an update on this? I was thinking announce it at the 1,000 mark, 2,500 for the first & 5,000 for the second...

@Solarious, I'm not sure which face it is, I think it was about half way down the list in LDD.

@Solarius at first I thought you meant that the bus design on Ideas was bigger than what VorpalRyu had shown here ("the bus was blown up") due to the 'approval' he mentioned, but on second thought I realised you just spoiled something for the viewers of the series. Good thing the bus kept it's MicroFighters' size. I supported your project by the way, @VorpalRyu, I like what you did there.

    Shit!
    Sorry for the spoiler
That was 2 or 3 weeks ago
Figured everyone had the opportunity to see it already
Honestly it wasn't even that big of a deal in the long run strangely
  • VorpalRyuVorpalRyu Member Posts: 2,318
@Solarious, Channel 7 in Australia is so slow to air them now, at the start we were seeing them in less than 24 hours after they aired in the US. We only just had the episode with Coulson's card trick & back-up arriving in a big way.

    You are pretty far behind
Well, again, I'm sorry to spoil it

In that note, I'd love a Dethlok fig
The head would be the hard part though
Not nearly enough black heads out there
And probably none with massive facial scarring p

I'll get them on a deal (2 for £14 in Asda today. I got the X Wing and Falcon.) I like using them for parts as I think you get some interesting pieces and I can always use the minifigs for my frame or scenes. You can also some for decent prices minus the minifig on eBay quite alot.

Just thought I'd mention it here, I've thrown my Microfighter concepts up on my Flickr, so we can see, if a series three comes out & TLG do the same vehicles as I have, how close I get.

Also, I've starting throwing up my Marvel Microfighter concepts, including those involved in my Lego Ideas project. A few may find their way back into the project...

Properly off topic (and a little late - I've been offline for a few weeks!) but you might enjoy the next Cap film. Marvel have released their schedule for the next quite a few years, and your wish is in there. :D

@Kevin_Hyatt, wondering what came of your plans to make Microfighters of the Cloud Car, Jedi Interceptor & A-Wing? I remember you mentioned something about throwing up a couple of pics when you were done.

On the topic of Microfighter pics, I've created a single album on my Flickr to hold them all, try as I might, it just keeps growing... http://flic.kr/s/aHskaGzJbn

Also, locally, Series 2 seems to be getting rare in the stores, anyone heard anything yet of if we'll see a Series 3?

If there is a Series 3, it will be leaked along with other new sets from the early 2016 wave via the retailer catalog. Rumors of such usually start in mid-August, with images showing up about a month later. Since they would be released after TFA, some or all could be vehicles based on that. And if that's the case, there likely wouldn't be preliminary images in the retailer catalog.
  • VorpalRyuVorpalRyu Member Posts: 2,318
@binaryeye, I hope that should we get a Series 3 it won't be all TFA vehicles...

I picked up the Snowspeeder and AT-AT on Monday to get the poster.

I think they're very well done actually. I want to get Republic Gunship and Spider Homing Droid when the Episode II poster is out, and the ARC-170 and Vultue Droid when the Episode III poster is out.

If there is a Series 3, I would hope it's a good mix of vehicles again, some from The Force Awakens, some from the other movies. Perhaps something like A-Wing vs. TIE Bomber/TIE Fighter, Imperial Shuttle vs. Rebel Blockade Runner, and then a The Force Awakens set.

  • 77ncaachamps77ncaachamps Member Posts: 2,442
I'm with ya, @SithLord196. I just hope they don't release one they've already done for promotions.
  • VorpalRyuVorpalRyu Member Posts: 2,318
@SithLord196, there's two I hadn't thought of....Imperial Shuttle & Blockade Runner. Though, what is it with the Rebels running? Blockade Runner, Assault Freerunner... No wonder it took so long to defeat the Empire...

@novicebuilder101, that could be interesting, a Bantha with flick missiles...  & the opposing vehicle could be a Sandcrawler with a Jawa.

@77ncaachamps, I wouldn't mind them redoing some of the exclusives, as long as they are different, like they could do Jango's Slave I (considering Boba's version didn't have flick missiles).
