margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
I see these are being given away as a promo at TRU in Canada. Anyone know upcoming details for the US?

I read elsewhere that according to a TRU rep, TRU US doesn't have a date determined yet. Possibly November?
  • prevereprevere Member Posts: 2,923
TRU U.S. and Canada do not often match their promotional campaigns or giveaways. There's been NUMEROUS really nice mini set events in both countries with no overlap. Seems strange to me. And I think EU misses out on pretty much all of it.

The oddest one was the Captain America building event in Canada but not the US....that being said I hope we get Rocket in the US

Someone claimed they were told by a Lego rep that this will not be available in the US, so we'll see. I actually wouldn't be too surprised, considering how much the promos differ between countries. It'll be a shame, considering how sought after this figure is.
  • matticus_bricksmatticus_bricks Member Posts: 651
^Grr, that's frustrating. It really plays on my OCD to see that the other three Minifig Guardians are readily available in their red uniforms, but not Rocket.

On a similar note, does anyone know anything about the Electro polybag? I recall reading someplace that it might be a TRU giveaway later this year.

Surely it was a Canadian who has a bunch to offload on eBay who reported this! ;)

Another thread around here said it was a Canadian and UK promo? No idea if that is true, but at least the ebay price is already dropping. I grabbed one shipped to the UK for £25, which is a snip compaired to the first one that sold for over £100 a few weeks back.

Debating over buying on eBay or waiting to see if they come to the US... $30+ seems a bit too high though considering they are free with a $30 purchase.

(Unless there's a Canadian Bricksetter out there who wants to trade for an Iron Patriot poly? :) )
  • veign06veign06 Member Posts: 136
Ugh, I really want this poly...I was hoping it would be available in the US. At least it has went down to $30, lol people basically getting their $30 purchase covered on these.

I just have a hard time buying a polybag for this amount, specifically when there still is a chance it could be released in the US.

I know, same here. At the same time, I don't want to miss the boat if prices start to rise. I have been watching eBay the past couple days and the price has been creeping up.

I also read that they were limited to 50 a store.

I see this going the same route as the Robin and Redbird Cycle polybag #30166 . It launches as exclusive in Canada but then launches everywhere else in time. I can't think of a single Canada only Polybag, other than maybe Ganrash #30170 , but what the heck was that poly anyways?
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
The only polys that did a half-step that come to mind are: Shirtless Maul and TC-4 (and the Brown Ninjago so far).
  • legogallegogal Member Posts: 754
I hope that these do launch everywhere else in time. It is okay if they use it as a premium in one country, but within a few months, it should be made available in other countries. Otherwise TLG is just feeding the frenzy and losing the profits that resellers claim. I love polybags....they are just so darn cute. And I own a lot of the little buggers, but refuse to pay over 5US most of the time.

Just looked up this little guy....he is adorable!

One of the things that makes this look different for me is the 'only at toy r us' how many polysbags have we seen like that. I think the Robin cycle made it to Europe but not sure where as I got it on ebay. We could see this in the UK so I am having a hard time know what to do as I do really want it, most of the time it is best to wait although it getting to the US wont help me much but if I do buy it next week it could be free in the mail.
  • playwellplaywell Member Posts: 2,333
BTW the price is going up on ebay at least those that ship to the UK and bricklink only has two at around $25 then a bit of a jump. I snapped and got one on bricklink just under £20 sent to UK. Hope I don't see it show up now but it really should, lego need to make sure people can get hold of theses. Rocket is an important one too because they chose to put all the others in there red uniforms, so Rocket is needed for the set. I would say if you are not going to wait and see if it shows up near you be quick to get one.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,837
I would say this. There will likely be enough of them in the world that even if they do not show in the US the price will likely not rise that dramatically I think. I thought I recently saw a TC-4 on eBay that was 20-25 dollars and no one was buying it. Now it is a minor character in SW, but still sought after (because it is SW).
Will Rocket Racoon really be THAT 'sought after' 6 months from now? Undetermined, as you can also get a version of him in sets (even if not the exact figure), and most polys seem to raise in price to about 30 USD tops then stabilize, and sometimes fall back to earth. Though there are exceptions, like Hulk, and Iron Patriot but both I think have leveled off at least. And if you are willing to pay 15 for one, is it a stretch if you have to pay 30? I think we have established that paying another more than 5 dollars for a minifigure is zany to most people already.
And TC-4 was released earlier this year and I think you cannot assume they will not be available in the US ever as I am fairly sure Robin and red bird came out some time after the Canada only release. (at least Robin also comes with his bike)
So Again I'm will to hedge and wait.

^ I think that's a fair point but for us in the UK TC-4 was not that hard to get and Robin was a repeat from 2 other sets. I think if it does not show up again we will see it go for a lot but there will be a limit. I still think it is likely to show up again and then it will go down but the fact they printed toy r us on the bag makes me think that will be the only place to get it. And unlike TC-4 it really does complete the team and fit with the sets so I know a lot of AFOL will 'have' to have it.
  • playwellplaywell Member Posts: 2,333
Bricklink now up to $35 US ebay $40 US from what I can see from the UK but that will all change if it shows up in other places.
  • monkey_roomonkey_roo Member Posts: 1,411
I have to say, for anyone think about this one, go for it. Mine arrived today at he is great. For such a small thing it has bought so much pleasure... :)

Seriously the figure is great and if you are a bit of a GoTG fan then this one is a must have to get the full team in the red suits, the Groot 'twig' is a lovely touch and given you might end up spending £25+ on Lego in TRU just to get this guy you might as well take the plunge now.
  • playwellplaywell Member Posts: 2,333
Still waiting for mine to come, how long should it take from US to UK? I don't have the Milano yet still waiting for a good price. This does look like a really great fig and the team will look good together.

Id rather pay that much in LEGO at TRU because it means I am also getting a set with that figure. IMO 25 pounds, or dollars for that matter, for a figure is crazy. Especially when it could very well be released by TRU either this fall or next spring (like I believe Robin and Redbird were in the US)

Buying from TRU makes sense if there is stuff you want and the deal and promo stack up, but that isn't always the case, The TRU markup is annoying so you might knowingly overpay for an item to get a promo?

I know it is a gamble buying high and betting the item won't appear in other area, I have read on this forum that Canada and UK will be only markets to get this, but even so I went for an ebay purchase as the last TRU exclusive in the UK was a right pain to track down.

Say there is a mark up (which is easy cause its TRU) then you are paying retail for that set, and what 5-10 dollars then for the figure?
Again I see what die hard fans are saying but I think there is a frenzy going on driving the price up, but that is only my opinion.
Lots of luck to anyone that wants it. I'll hedge my bets and wait though.

The interesting thing about this poly is that it is not available all over Canada. Where I am (Calgary) I have not seen any of them at the 3 TRU's. They know nothing about this, so in my mind this is limited to only portions of Canada, which in itself is more frustrating.
  • goshe7goshe7 Member Posts: 515
^ Great news. I was initially skeptical seeing as how the image does not have the standard hole for hanging on pegs. But then I was reminded of all the #5000245 I have seen sitting in a box at TRU.
  • legogallegogal Member Posts: 754
Wow! That us great news for us in the US! It looks like a really cute fig, and polybags rock. Will it only be in TRU in the US? I am against paying more than $5US for a polybag, so this sounds fantastic to me.

    From brickfan:

Update: Jason from The Brick Show has confirmed that the Rocket Raccoon will be a stand-alone polybag at $4.99 each but they won’t be available for purchase until the “strict” 11/16 street date. Below is a picture of the bin they were in while the LEGO rep was putting them out. - See more at: http://www.thebrickfan.com/more-details-about-lego-marvel-gotg-rocket-raccoon-5002145-polybag/#sthash.Xm3anQNl.dpuf

  • veign06veign06 Member Posts: 136
Heads up on these, walked into my local TRU in TN and they had a bin of about 50-100 of these already out. Went to buy 4 and they were flagged with the 11/16 street date. The manager held 4 of them for me since they couldn't sell them. I got a pic but meant to get the SKU and forgot.
  • matticus_bricksmatticus_bricks Member Posts: 651
Any ideas whether this will be a limited edition polybag? Like, should I bolt to my nearest TRU ASAP on 11/16 and buy a few, for investing, or will they stick around for awhile and end up not worth a whole lot?

Guessing it is still better than 10,15,20,30 dollars that I'm sure people were getting from US buyers on BL and eBay..

It's hard to make consistent money on the TRU polys.

25% of the time it's a limited run and you can sell for $10 or $15 and it's a great quick return (MF polys, Mirkwood and Robin Redbird Cycle as examples)

25% of the time it's a limited run but heavy quantities online keep the price under $10 (Spider-man glider, Thor w/ Cube, are recent example)

50% of the time it's available so widely and continuously that it stays around $5 (there are dozens of examples for this one).

So Rocket is likely at in the best tier here, but you never know.
  • JessyDooDahJessyDooDah Member Posts: 228
Spider-man glider & Thor w/ Cube were freebies with newspapers in the uk - that will definitely keep the price down in the secondary market.
  • playwellplaywell Member Posts: 2,333
^ And were figs you could get in a lot of sets.
  • GuroooGurooo Member Posts: 268
I think the big difference between polys is wether the figure is exclusive or not. Exclusive figs are rarely going for less than about $13 on bricklink. I would not hesitate on this one if I could buy it!
  • GuroooGurooo Member Posts: 268
But I would buy for trading, not resale (I hope you lucky Americans will help us poor Europeans out!)
    :)
  • playwellplaywell Member Posts: 2,333
This is the thing if it makes it to Europe some where then the price is not as bad even if it does not make it to the UK.
  • monkey_roomonkey_roo Member Posts: 1,411
I still think this is good news that the figure is going to get a wider release, even though I have bought of ebay at the higher price. Being in the UK there is still no news of a release and if there is a release there is no guarantee of obtaining it, but if it does end up that way I will probably still grab another at the RRP and not worry too much about the ebay price I paid for the one I have, the fact I have it in hand now and part of my collection is worth it.
