Daenerys Targaryen - mosaic

Hi!

this is my last work.

I love the TV show Game of Thrones so I made this mosaic of my favourite character: the mother of dragons.

It is composed of 4 Baseplates 38x38 cm and 9216 hand painted LEGO tile 1x1.

This time the color palette is 11 colors.

Hope you enjoy it!

Looks like the image you've linked to is a thumbnail. I'm sure you've put a lot of effort into it, but it's too small for anyone to see!

If I'm honest, I don't really see the point. You might as well just paint squares on paper or even just print out the computer image you no doubt used to build the mosaic. It just seems to me that part of the point of a LEGO mosaic is to successfully use the limited colour pallet.

^I agree, painting the tiles seems wrong.
Why not just paint a picture?

If you are creating a mosaic, be true to the material used.

    Wow; rough crowd.

Artists can use all kinds of mediums, and they really shouldn't have to answer for their work. I think it's kind of cool, and it gives it an interesting look at texture, like a kind of weird dot-matrix work.

    Good stuff.

I'm sorry, i don't understand. Yes, we painted the pieces but just to have the best final result.
We have used Lego tiles on a Lego base plate, it's an idea: making art with Lego.

    Thanks Luckie_rebus

I agree. I think the point of a LEGO mosaic is to use LEGO and its color palette. I don't see the point of painting LEGO, but I'm a purist. If you are going to paint LEGO tiles, you might as well paint on a canvas and get a smoother finish.

Yes, this is creating art with LEGO, but not really. LEGO tiles/plates are certainly capable of creating art all by themselves if used appropriately. In this depiction, that doesn't seem to be the case.

I'm with @luckie_reubs‌. Let the guy/gal do whatever he/she wants with the lego mosaic. I am much more interested in seeing final works than reading people's opinions about why it doesn't qualify as "art with lego."

    Just my 2 pence.

LOL. Pixie was making an image that was pleasing to her/him and shared it here. It then stimulated other posters to examine the nature of LEGO purity and the "rules" of making mosaics. Not Pixie's intention I'm sure, but in a very meta way, that is what art is all about -- making the viewer perceive something new.

    U go pixie!!!
Don't let nobody hold you back or down, just keep slapping those tiles on.
Oooh and screw the rules too!

Indeed. This is a discussion forum, not an art gallery. You have no idea how pleased I am that some actual discussion ended up being provoked by the original posting rather than just a series of pointless "nice mosaic" responses....

Now that you can buy this piece on ebay perhaps it is more like an art gallery.

I'm not a big art buyer and I've got no use for painted lego so the starting price is a bit outside my price bracket.

Well, we should start a mosaic gallery!!!

The actress that plays her is very pretty, but I don't think I need a black/white mosaic on my wall. I've seen other more iconic poses of her that might work well as a mosaic instead.

If you can sell it for that price, I'm in the wrong business. Looks like I found a new hobby.

    Hey,

I wanted only some feedback / opinions about my idea. That's why I posted my works.
