Finally managed to snag an Old Fishing Store.  VIP set was still available too.  Walking through the mall after my purchase, I noticed a Gamestop store.  They were gracious enough to give me 2 Lloyd minifigs #30608.  A very Lego day. :)

My fishing store did finally ship from [email protected] Said it was back ordered until the 29th so waking up to that email was a delight!

My order from [email protected] arrived last week.  3 sets, 3 freebies and double VIP points - pretty happy with this haul!

Death Star. Just my opinion. The minifig selection is amazing and the Death Star itself has tons of cool features.

Assembly Star. You can't beat the build- 10/10 would recommend to a friend.

Thanks for the responses. I went with Assembly Square since that was the first post. I'll grab the Death Star at some point.  Maybe it'll go on sale for the holidays.

Just got home from opening day of BRICKLIVE Birmingham 2017: http://bricklive.co.uk/bricklive-birmingham-2017/

I headed straight to Toys R Us stand to see what deals were available since from experience queuing is horrendous later in the day! And as is normal at BRICKLIVE, Toys R Us was giving away freebies left right and centre! After using a £5 voucher, the total for my haul below was a reasonable £51.97.
    • #75184 Star Wars Advent Calendar for £24.99
    • #60154 Bus Station for £31.98 (20% discount)
    • #5004939 The LEGO Batman Movie Minifigure Collection free with any £55 spend
    • #40268 R3-M3 free with £15 Stars Wars spend
    • #30355 Jungle ATV free with £15 City spend
    • #30478 Santa Claus free with any spend for VIP attendees
    • #5004934 Christmas Ornament free with any £25 spend
    • plus 5 packs of Toys R Us lego trading cards which I promptly gave away!
I then renewed my annual subscription to BLOCKS magazine (£54.88) getting a free magazine plus a couple of minifig packets thrown in. They have just released an exclusive Brick Wife minifig which I had to pay for as an extra (£7.99) - but totally worth it! :)
I also picked up a set of printed tiles for last year's BLOCKS magazines (£13.99).

Later I ordered myself a custom minifig head (£22.50) from: https://funky3dfaces.com/
I will have to wait a few weeks to see how that turns out! :)

And finally, after much careful thought and reflection... I picked up a Donald Trump minifig (£10) from: https://minifigures.com/
    God knows why!! :D
The 15% discount code which got obscured in the photo below might just be BRICKME15! :)

In all seriousness at $500 I’m just scratching my head on the value of buying that right now.  If you have any of the modulars I would go for AS. Now, if you collect Star Wars I guess it’s the opposite. That’s why so much when it comes to all this is truly a personal choice.

Finally got around to picking up the following two sets yesterday! (I've wanted both since they were released and just haven't had the opportunity to snag them over other sets I want)

Star Wars Bounty Hunter Speeder Bike Battle Pack 75167

75174 Star Wars - Desert Skiff Escape

I just recently picked up the Batwing!  I've been keeping an eye on it since I first saw it was going to be released.  Almost talked myself out of getting it until I saw a friend of mine had picked it up.  Once I saw his, got my hands on it and got a good look at it, it was bumped to the top of the list.

Now I just have to find time to build it.

Here was my rationale: I really like the SW theme and I'm particularly attracted to the minifigures. That set has a ton of cool ones and it looked pretty fun overall. I also had $120 in VIP to put towards the purchase. Combine that with double VIP and it seemed like a good time to pick it up.
Also have wanted AS for awhile. A lot less expensive and it was going to make me current on the modulars. I love building those too and it fits in better with my overall collection than a big gray ball. Tough decision for me, but went with the AS. There will be time to grab the DS in the future.

A Wegmans (local supermarket chain) had 3 cases of S17 and one of TLNM out - which I saw before so I figured I already searched them. I found a Rocket Boy I somehow missed last time, and one case was new, another 3 each Rocket Boy and Elf Girl. I found one N-POP Girl - reasonably random for the amount of bags left. I stumbled across the boombox (Cole) and wondered why I didn't get that before for my music collection - makes sense to have some fans to go with the performers rather than random minis.

@kbw it doesn't make sense to spend VIP points during double VIP - unless you didn't have enough money to pay for the whole order.
Brick Bank was more than big enough for me, and Assembly Square and the new Millennium Falcon are bigger. Besides sticker shock, that large a build can get tedious for me.

On a set that expensive it kind of washes out in my mind. Saving $120 for the sake of of $10 savings (240 points) in future purchases seems like a good swap because you're still getting 759 points. If I used them on that set with no double VIP I get 379 points, which is a difference of $15 in future savings because you don't the extra 379 points.  I'm also forfeiting $5 in future VIP points by redeeming them anyway, so again it kinda washes out in mind.
I didn't use any on AS, but seems like you can trap yourself into not spending these things.
  • kbwkbw NCMember Posts: 384
    /sorry - a difference of $20 in future savings. 7 * 5 is 35. 379 points is $15.

Waiting for The Carousel to be in stock in a certain store before the spending starts.

Yesterday I finally purchased #75144 UCS Snowspeeder alongside #41486 Captain Phasma Brickheadz. I got a free Christmas Countdown set as well as the VIP set, which I was pleasantly surprised by seeing as the offer finished a few days ago.

I know the CP Brickhead got a lot of flack when it was revealed, but I really like it for some reason. It has a certain charm. Anyone agree with me?

I like the CP Brickhead too, although I don’t collect them.

Last night I picked up #10245 Winter Holiday Train, which I’ve wanted for ages, alongside #21312 Women of NASA and #75184 Star Wars Advent Calendar. Got the free #40222 24-in-1 Christmas Builds and the guy even chucked in the #40178 VIP set I had thought I missed out on. Not bad at all but that’s my monthly allowance shot!

Sadly the two new Christmas mini sets had both sold out in the Leicester Square shop but got a voucher for free [email protected] delivery.

I agree! The helmet construction shows a lot of creativity. And the heads being kind of blocky and abstract is a big part of what makes the BrickHeadz so unique in the first place. I haven't bought any BrickHeadz, though.

I decided with the launch of the BrickHeadz that I would be very selective about which ones I purchased. Otherwise I'd end up killing myself trying to collect them all. From series one it was only Belle and Beast as I'm a huge Disney nut.

I've decided I'll definitely get the new Star Wars ones. I agree with @SirBrickalotOfLego, I like CP as well and think there is something fun and unique about the design.

^So far I've gotten only Iron Man. I'm definitely not going to try to collect all of them. Finn is on my must have list. I'm not so sure about Phasma though. I don't hate her, but I'll have to see more pics to decide whether I want to buy her or not. The Stormtrooper helmet design is a tough one to fit on a Brickheadz, so in that aspect I think they did okay.

*slightly* overspent this last week. Not sure where this puts me on the @stlux scale of buying, but I fully blame @Huw for the Technic purchases....

I guess I should feel honored there is such a thing as a "@stlux scale of buying Lego" ;)

I'd say you didn't brake the scale, but are at the high end. It still all seems to comfortably(ish) fit in a car. To break the scale you'd have to go all out like @SumoLego here :)

There was a reason I referenced a @stlux scale and not a @SumoLego scale. It would barely register on the later, and there are not enough duplicates to qualify ;D
