Selling my entire lego collection

edited September 2014 in Marketplace
I am looking to sell my lego collection. I'm 17 and as much as I love lego I'm starting to realize I'll never catch up or have everything I want or complete my collection. Other priorities such as college and driving are beginning to arise as well so I'm looking to sell. If interested just get ahold of me and we can work something out. Here are the sets http://brickset.com/sets/ownedby-terfsten
Some of the hero factory sets are missing pieces or instructions and some of the older ones are slightly cracked but most parts are there and all the other sets should be complete and in pretty good condition. Maybe missing a few stickers here and there.

17 and selling your collection?! I think we need to have an intervention, encouraging you to keep your sets in order to ward away the dark ages!

Kidding, of course. Good luck finding a home for these.

Update: I sold a lot of the minifigs and the sentinel from some of the 2014 superhero sets already. Since you can't see that from the list I just thought I'd post it

I know it did for me. The first two I was able to convince my wife it was for the kids but after the third she saw through my plans!

Don't listen to LFT, he's just looking for new customers by pushing babies. Be safe, use protection...no rush, there is plenty of time for kids when you get older.

But well wishes toward your future. :)

Thanks :) like I said it's not necessarily that I don't like it anymore as much as I have greater priorities now so much as I like it I'm giving it up to put my focus on those other things :)

I don't have the time or money for both so I have to make a choice and I have to choose the more important thing. But I'll check back to see what's new from time to time it's always great seein what new sets are out an I'll always remember the time I did have collecting even if I can't anymore :)

@terfsten‌ I've been down that path countless times and one thing ends up being true no matter the interest. no matter how dedicated you are to ending a hobby there will always be that one new product that you just gotta have, and when that item arrives the dark age is over ;)

I just recovered the majority of the hero factory Instruction booklets from the friend who used to have them so there's only maybe 2 missing instructions now and they're easy to download a copy!

I purchased some of the items off @terfsten and they all were shipped promptly, packaged well and were in excellent shape. Communication was also excellent. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase again from this user.

Have you sold all your sets @terfsten? If not, try your local car boot sale. You have a lot of smaller sets and sets that dont fetch much on Ebay. You have sold a lot of the good stuff by now.
I am the only person selling Lego in a big way at my local carboot, so do well. You could clear out your lot quickly, if you are cheap. I sell the polybags from the newspapers for £2-4 each and you have a few.
If you dont want to sell at a car boot, I might be interesting in buying up the leftovers if you are cheap... (I need to factor in a profit...)
  • terfstenterfsten Member Posts: 303
I don't think I've ever heard of a car boot sale lol and the sets are still worth something I don't exactly want to just give them away but I've been pricing low or asking for offers. @Norlego‌ and thanks again! :) @canon03‌
  • NorlegoNorlego Member Posts: 449
I assumed for some reason you were in the UK. (In all honesty I think everybody is...) If you sell your Hero Factory sets and make a killing, I defiantly need you on my stall..... I have sold a few and did not get more than £3-4 each. They are hard to sell compared to City and Star Wars.
  • terfstenterfsten Member Posts: 303
Nope the USA lol and Yes I'll admit the hero factory are gonna be a tough sell I might just put those en mass on eBay or Craigslist or something long as I get something from them. Some are in pretty good shape still but some aren't. I collected them for a few years and then got tired of them and just gave them away to a friend. Recently they got tired of them and gave them back but in a lot worse condition. Especially sets from the first year. The rest are pretty good but some are missing a couple pieces here and there so I doubt they'll sell unless I pretty much give em away. The rest if my sets are great though so they gotta be worth something lol @Norlego‌ and I apologize I know you didn't ask for a book haha
  • NorlegoNorlego Member Posts: 449
You live on planet earth after all then... You implied the Hero sets were *still worthing" something.... If you come to the UK, visit a carboot sale. You can get bargains. But you need to be a trader and buy before the carboot opens. Lego gets sold before it leaves the car...

Well no one is buying anymore so does anyone at least have any suggestions on how else I could easily sell these for a decent price?

Do you have any figs left? I couldn't tell from the list provided.

You might want to keep your remaining sets in the attic or something, just in case like others have mentioned you one day have a child/children or your dark age ends in a sudden relapse. I'd just like to say as an 18-year-old LEGO fan, I totally get where you're coming from when you say you have priorities in driving and education. However, even though I've been collecting LEGO nearly since birth and I've got a valuable collection, I couldn't imagine selling my whole collection. My personality and identity are deeply rooted in my LEGO fandom, and selling my collection would be like selling the physical manifestation of my imagination. But I respect that you may have a different relationship with LEGO than myself, in which case your best bet would be probably selling the whole lot on ebay/ through a garage sale or stowing it away in the attic. While LEGO doesn't always appreciate in value, it never depreciates, so you can't lose by storing it.

Yes I have almost all that are from sets on the list! Just missing a few superhero ones that someone purchased! @waitingforlego‌ and yeah I was like that too but I do have my reasons for wanting to sell and I don't have a place to keep them in storage @Legonizer‌
  • terfstenterfsten Member Posts: 303
Trust me this isn't just I decided I don't like lego anymore. I love lego! But this is something I have to do! Lol

Wish I could offer you some really helpful advice, but I suspect in your place I'd either put the Hero Factory sets up as a bulk lot on eBay or see if you could find a group garage sale or a local flea market ("boot sale" in the U.K. is pretty similar to a flea market in the U.S.). If you go the eBay route, be sure you get the cost of shipping worked out in advance!

My sympathies about the abuse your HF sets took from your friend. Not fun to discover that someone else doesn't appreciate your things the way you did/do!

You really hit the nail on the head @Legonizer‌. I feel the same way. You said it so...ah, eloquently. It is nice to know that there is somebody else that feels the same way about their LEGO collection as I do. Your awesome dude!

Thanks! @sklamb‌ my only worry with eBay is I heard the fees are really high and I've never really sold anything on there for myself someone else always has for me.
  • terfstenterfsten Member Posts: 303
Ok. I'm just wondering. Is there any good ways to get the rest of these to sell? I really really need the money for a trip coming up now at the end of march and I don't know what else to do!!! Please if anyone's interested! I'm not charging full price even and shipping in the U.S. is basically free! I just need to get these sold!
  • terfstenterfsten Member Posts: 303
I've been allowing people to just make offers of what they think is a fair price and we can discuss it. But I really need to get these out ASAP for the money!

If you can get $60 with no fees from people wanting a bargain or $100 with 10% fees from people bidding on eBay, which would you take? eBay fees are high in the sense that you are charged 10%, but then you get a lot more exposure for your money. You also get buyers that don't know you are desperate to sell, whereas here everyone now knows you may take a lower offer to get rid of them.

@SumoLego I still have everything on the list. I keep it updated! The only thing is some of the super hero sets (not all of them) have had their minifigs sold.
  • terfstenterfsten Member Posts: 303
@CCC thanks! Like I said I've never really used it it's just what I've heard. I don't really sell stuff often.
  • terfstenterfsten Member Posts: 303
@thedoctor46 let me get back to you on that.
  • terfstenterfsten Member Posts: 303
@thedoctor46 I suppose I could but it's a lot more shipping to do so.
  • NorlegoNorlego Member Posts: 449
If you go done ebay route then group together sets. Expensive sets sell better on their own. I would sell all the figures on their own as they are worth more than the sets they are in. (Superheros) this way you could post quite cheaply to europe.

You might improve your luck by taking the time to list your sets in a post with prices.

Thanks! @Norlego duly noted. And thanks as well @Bumblepants only thing would be should I just post those in a comment or start a new post? I haven't done much besides this on here... And the only reason I didn't before is because I've just been taking offers! But I'm definitely open to suggestions.
  • terfstenterfsten Member Posts: 303
I have posted suggested prices for some of the sets on separate discussions by theme. So far Superheroes, Ninjago, and World Racers if anyone is interested!
  • terfstenterfsten Member Posts: 303
Any tips out there on how I can get the rest of these sets sold quickly?
  • Vindic8edVindic8ed Member Posts: 197
Have you updated your profile with the sets you still have or is the list from your first post the sets you had from the get go?  What do you still have left?
