10246 Detective Agency

http://www.brickshop.nl/lego/lego-creator-expert/lego-10246-detective-bureau.html

Translated: LEGO 10246 Detective Agency is the successor to the 10243, 10232 and 10218. Again a wonderful home for your modular street!

Jumping the gun? Maybe, but I see it more as unofficial confirmation of what I posted a few weeks ago.

I'm expecting that the set which TLG have said they're going to unveil in early October to be this one, but that's just speculation on my part.

Maybe that's what they will reveal at Brickcon this year in Oct :) IF so, I will get to see it and get pics

Interesting that they list the Pet Shop, Palace Cinema and Parisian Restaurant.. No mention of the Town Hall. Maybe that one will be next to go after the Grand Emporium?

uh oh uh oh I'd love a detective agency!!!!!
  • PaperballparkPaperballpark Member Posts: 4,268
@brthorsen‌ I think that's just the site posting the other set numbers, and I imagine they've probably got it wrong with the Pet Shop.

I heard about this a while ago from a source. If it is now a topic of discussion on here, then it has been definitely confirmed as the next modular.
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,099
I'd like to see something Art Deco to match the Palace Cinema. Two building style like Pet Shop. How about a small motel for the other structure as it could serve as the "crime scene" for the detective to investigate.

Yeah, because murders only happen in motels. :)

^ Yes, I think there are at least a few of us hoping for a side by side style like Pet Shop. At a minimum I would like to see any implementation that is not one building of top of the other. What has me most curious is what they think a detective agency is. While the link says Detective Bureau, which translates then to detective agency, I have very different ideas of what a detective agency vs. A detective bureau should look like. For a detective agency, I had similar thoughts, an agency with some other building next door where the crime scene happened, makes sense. Then they could add in a police car as well. Of course, if they are thinking of detective bureau, I envision something larger than a small one person detective agency, and more akin to a police station/bureau.

I heard about this a while ago from a source. If it is now a topic of discussion on here, then it has been definitely confirmed as the next modular.

I first posted this news back in June and then it all went quiet for a while.

But now, I don't think it's a case of what the next modular will be - it's got to be a dead cert hasn't it? It's more a case of speculating what the set will look like.

I reckon the minifigs will be based on the Holmes stereotype. We've had one in the CMF range already. The Cuusoo Sherlock set was turned down and this new modular must have already been in development. I think kids may identify with that sort of character more than a Sam Spade or Philip Marlowe. My own children wouldn't have a clue who they were, but knew about Sherlock even before the BBC modernised it. I speak as a UK member though - not sure how this sits Stateside or elsewhere.

My money is on a retro 20's/30's type building - and after the Parisian Restaurant I can't see Lego are going to get away with anything less than awesome detailing and interesting architectural features with cool building techniques. I expect the wow factor. No, actually I demand it ;-)

I can't see how they will fill three floors for just an agency, so there has to be more to it. Do we need another 16x32 house like with the Pet Shop? That might be the easy way out. I'm hoping for something a bit more creative. Maybe it'll be a newsagents shop next door. Some 2x2 newspaper tiles with headlines about solved crimes perhaps and a shopkeepers flat above.

With most modulars having 5 or 6 minifigs what characters will we get? A detective and sidekick, a client or two? Someone for next door or the flat above?

Whatever it is, I'm glad there have been no leaked images to spoil the big reveal. Though it is tempting to pummel my source next time I see him for any more info ;-)

Personally, I'm quite excited about this one. However, my shelf is rapidly running out of modular spaces...

Cafe Corner technically was a hotel as well, or had one above the Cafe.
You are right though, I think LEGO is a bit overdue for a hotel/motel/apt style type building, will not be very 'exciting' though. Makes sense though for someone's LEGO folks to be able to have a place to live.

If it's a 30s/40s diner or coffee shop (e.g. Nighthawks), this may be my first modular.

Not retro style? so instead of the fun innocence of Sherlock holmes in his cap, trenchcoat and with his magnifying glass we're going to get criminal detective Glenn doing phone hacking for the latest scoop on who Prince Harry is dating for his red top criminal mate Andy?

Seriously though I'm intrigued what's meant by the not retro bit given that the whole modular line is retro, hopefully it's not something completely out of place and they manage to get this right!
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
There's a big gap between sherlock holmes and phone hacking. A gum shoe private eye film noir style would work perfectly, think LA Confidential 1950s.

^^ Yes, it was hard to define exactly what she meant. Given that Sherlock was first written before the 20th Century, something more modern could be anything I'd admit.

I think what we need to take from this definition is, don't expect a super sleuth and sidekick in a study, which is what I had hoped it would be. We should be looking at more of a proper agency (say bureau) with an investigative team rather than one Private Eye. I see no reason why the building still couldn't be retro in architecture though.

I think the exciting news is about this bar, or whatever it turns out to be. Lets face it, we have a restaurant with the PR, and Cafe in the CC. However a lot of people missed the CC so a small diner/coffee bar might plug the hole and still work without duplicating amenities that have gone before.

While they're at it TLG need to get their own detective hat on and start shaking down that site who ALWAYS seem to post stuff before they should do! How hard is it to stick to a release date?!

I'm standing between the buildings in an alley. The city smog fills the air, and then I hear the sound of a cigarette lighter being flicked. Out of the shadows comes the warmly lit face of a tall female. She looks at me and nods. I take out the brown envelope stuffed full of cash and hand it over. She blows a big grey cloud of smoke in my face. I try to play cool and stifle a wheezy cough.

"What's the word on the street?" I say.

I am really getting excited for this one. Used to listen to old time radio dramas like Sam Spade and others like it as a kid. Really glad it looks like it will be going in that direction. Hoping there is a good promo going on at the time of release!

So excited. Last year I posted about a possible 2 modular releases in the same year. But we weren't that lucky. Now I'm sorry to use the 'C' word but I would like this under the tree this year!!!

I doubt you'll get it. They didn't do early release for PR, so I doubt they will for this.

Although I wonder how many lost sales they suffered not releasing it before Christmas. I hope they've been wondering too.

Is it not a good selling strategy? Let people buy other sets for Christmas, before releasing a big set after Christmas. If they release it before Christmas those people will not be buying those other sets. Those that want this set will eventually pick it up some time (with Christmas money possibly or because they want a day one purchase).

Surely they've done their research now to know when's the best time to release this type of set. May be they made a mistake last year and will release in time for Xmas?

Where is the fun in that? I love leeks as they give some excitement and something to talk about during the long wait for the official release.

Also with most anticipated product launches (not just Lego), I'd take a guess and say that >50% of leeks are "official" leeks. Building the hype and getting people talking about the next big thing is great for business.

^ Aw, no need to Beet him down! Lettuce be nice. XD Ok, I promise I'm done.

I'm looking forward to the juice bar/milkshake place/whatever it turns out to be, and I hope that not being retro means that we're getting more of a contemporary/modern modular building. I'm a huge fan of modern, minimalist architecture, and while I'm sure it won't be anything like that, I'd like to see a set that moves somewhat in that direction.

I wonder though, when this source said it was a two in one, do you think that just meant a downstairs bar and upstairs detective agency, or could we be getting two separate buildings again like the Pet Shop?

That seems like TLG becoming more comfortable with the idea that some sets are almost exclusively for the adult crowd if true.

Either by looking giant ot by using flat 1x1 rounds to give the impression....or stickers/print

I wonder if its going to have a bigger footprint than the rest of the modulars in order to accommodate an alleyway? Maybe a 32x32 and a 16x32 for base plates?

Maybe it doesn't take up a whole 32x32 and leaves an alley between itself and whatever modular is beside it?

If it truly is split down the middle, your thought is the only way that won't leave me disappointed. I don't want two 12 stud wide buildings /:

Wow. You two are dreaming. Of course it's going to be smaller not bigger than previous modulars. Look what they did with the cinema and the restaurant. The trend is clear

Having an alleyway would be good as you could have the crime scene happen there plus you can add details and windows on wall of the building like the Parisian Restaurant #10234.

Yes, I would not like modular buildings to be smaller than 16 studs as then they would be too small to access or have and alleyway/gap in between the two buildings on a 32x32 baseplate similar to the Toy and Grocery Store #31036

I would like it to have a 6 stud wide alleyway (most likely on the right hand side) it would defiantly be a cool new layout, maybe it could have some type of graffiti on the walls. I'm very intrigued with the bar and the pool table. I would like to pool table to have the six pockets. Official pictures cannot come soon enough...

I hope Jaime Berard will design all the future modular buildings including the Detective Agency.
  • iso3200iso3200 Member Posts: 2,065
^^That pool table only just fits into a 16 stud width.
