I personally enjoy the Star Wars Lego sets. I collected the action figures back in the mid to late 90s, and when they first came out with the Lego sets in 1999, I bought a few because I liked the idea of them. The first sets were bad. Very bad(Except for a couple, like the Podracer set). In the early 90s, I decided to sell my collection of the action figures, and I gave my lego sets to my nephew, who enjoyed them immensely and destroyed them by play, which made me happy(Yes, their destruction by play is always good-that's what Lego is truly about, the kids).

Last August, however, I was at a Toys 'r Us, and saw the Millenium Falcon on sale for $109. I...couldn't pass it up. Unfortunately(or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), this has now turned into 16 more SW sets(I am keeping it to only Original Trilogy sets though), a second bookshelf, and now I am breaking into the Superheroes line with a few sets, which are very good too.

I think the new SW sets are very good, and far better than they were over a decade ago. I must have the Death Star, and it will be mine within the next two weeks. Unfortunately, I think I'm sliding down the same Sarlacc pit. Oh well, there are worse things to waste money and time on.

I have only ever bought SW sets for my son. With all the guides, reader books etc for Lego SW he's obessed. I mainly collect older 80s sets but I figure if he didn't collect SW I probably would.

^^Yes indeed! I've always been more Anakin than Luke. The Dark Side is intoxicating and simply more fun to be on. You get an army of cronies, a planet sized headquarter with office corner window of the galactic empire, you get to blow stuff up, and the uniforms are always en vogue.

If I made one that big, I'd build it around a swivel stool and make the DS hinge open on the side so I can get inside it and spin looking out tunnel of the primary weapon =)

Another for the "Not into SW" list, here. I liked the original movie trilogy and certainly appreciate some of the neat LEGO sets, but I'm not a big enough fan to buy them.

There are only three Star Wars sets that I've ever found appealing:

UCS R2-D2
Anakin and Sebulba's Podrace

and strangely, the Jedi Booster Ring...thing. Can't remember the name of the set, but I love it.

I think for those that are into it it's a good line, because TLG puts a lot of time into it, but it's just not for me. I've never really been a big fan of the movies either.

I'm not too much into SW sets. These those of other Lego-external franchises (Toy Story, PotC etc.) seem to be 20-30% more expensive than sets of Lego-owned themes (City, Ninjago, etc.) of comparable weight or brick count.

Some SW sets also seem to be made out of plates, which makes them difficult to re-use. The new Tie Fighter or upcoming ToR Sith ship seem to be a good example.

Last but not least, the whole theme starts to become too repetitive for my taste.

Having said that, I admit I bought a few SW sets at a bargain (Slave I, Bounty Hunter Gunship, Death Star), and they are great!

I'm not into sets, but I do like the minifigs. But only the Original Trilogy ones. And not ewoks. I have seen the other three, but don't care much for them. I've never seen the Clone Wars stuff.

I did buy 10x bounty hunters when they were £20, and sold off the minifigs and some of the rarer parts. Made a decent profit and had loads of free parts left over.

In my opinion everything other than the original trilogy is crap, thus I'm having a hard time committing to buy any sets other than originals. I do love the set and minifigs designs of the clone wars but I can't seem to pull the trigger. Anyone else like this?

I'm the same as i cannot relate to the clone wars and prequel stuff. Its probably the star wars snob in us as the originals hold such a place in our generations heart. I was dissappointed when the prequel films came out but children at the time think its great, and even more so with the clone wars. I did like the clone wars but the characters are all very similar with just different head gear and such. The original sets seem to focus more on scenes in the film where the new stuff is just ships, ships and more ships. I have to get most of them anyway as i collect the minifigs but soon sell the parts on.

I also am not a big fan of the Clone Wars sets, I have purchased prequel stuff like the pod racers and I like some of the expanded universe sets.

You have to draw the line somewhere if you want to keep the amount of Lego you own and display under control, and for me it's simple - OT stuff only. The PT had its highlights, but to me they totally destroyed the persona of Darth Vader in the OT. Hard to imagine the cold and ruthless man in the suit strangling Captain Antilles on Tantative IV came from that whiny little brat that Hayden Christiansen portrayed. The best character by far in the PT was Palpatine.

I only get the star wars episodes 4-6 sets, and I won't change. i have watched clone wars with my son, but does not appeal to me. I had some sets from episode 1 to 3...but I sold them off as I needed space and money for the modulars, and I do not regret my choice.

I like all the Star Wars sets, but do agree the new movies are lacking a little, and cheesy at points. The capital ship battle is pretty good in the third one though, and I love those! Also the Clone Wars cartoon won me over. So... Most of my sets are Star Wars, and most were purchased on sale, clearance, or used. So that determined the choice of set. I did buy one full retail recently but it was the Ninjago Mech, and it came with a free series seven minifig. So kinda on sale.

ME I love the Original Grew up with it I was a late 80s kid born in 81' But I love all Lego Star Wars.

A few Weeks back I got The new Jedi Interceptor (9494) Reilly like this set And in the last few days just finished the Republic Frigate (7964)

But I will pay full price for OT stuff But all most all of my PT stuff I got on discount! So I guess I prefer OT!!! But love it all :)

I liked all the movies and the clone wars spin off even more. Other Jedi got their time to shine in the clone wars and we get more time with epic space battles. If anyone feels otherwise and is holding onto a 7676 or 10195 for the cheap, lmk.

Yeah, but she dies... Palpatine is kinda in all six movies, even though no screen time in the original and Empire. Love the cartoon spoofs of his early career when he decides to go into politics!

I vastly prefer OT as well. I picked up a few PT sets (to get my TC-14!) but will save those in the attic for a rainy day or resale.

I also like OT better since I think it is more iconic than the PT...but it's only a matter of time and I think these divisions will slowly fade away.

For one, the scenes and effects of the PT are obviously better due to the technology that was not available at the time of the OT (but, boy, I still have great admiration on the way they made those effects back then, which was essentially even more than a labor of love). So they tend to come up with pretty cool characters, IMO. And I think the younger generation will easily identify with what is the current story line. I just don't like the way they made the faces in the clone wars versions in LEGO, though, but I do like the ARF troopers.

Lastly, as ^hoyatables said, you can just invest in those PT sets for the future. I think there will always be a market for those things, and as long as you don't have to break the bank just to buy them, of course!

The best rule, I guess, is buy what you like...But if I had much more money to burn, I'd buy the stuff which might become a good set for resale. That would be my trigger.

I discovered the OT in my early childhood and that shaped my future nerd-life. I recently started watching the Clone Wars series to make sense of all the lego sets available and I have to say that they are very interesting and not only aimed at very young audiences (people DIE in the Clone Wars!)..

Regarding the most recent lego set... I am a fan of spaceships at heart and I absolutely love the Old Republic ships.. especially the Fury!

I always buy the lot of them, but I do watch the Clone Wars and it is actually a very good series. Many of the vehicle designs are just based off cast off concept art, some from the OT so share many of those features that make OT models so good. I like the prequels as well (ep.1 is not great, but in comparison with films from other series, is pretty good in my opinion) so I have no trouble buying any of them. To those who do I would advise you to start with something like the new Anakin's Jedi Starfighter which is a great set. As for the Clone Wars, the Republic Frigate is a nice set. I can certainly say that for me, it is worth buying PT and CW sets as they are really not all that different to OT models.

I grew up loving the OT and was in college years when the PT came out. They're certainly different, but I feel they were always intended to be that way. So actually like them both as two halves of a story arc about Anakin. Therefore, not separating PT and OT when it comes to deciding sets to buy, as I consider it a 6 part saga.

The CW on the otherhand, have been excluded from my collection. No ships or Jedi's from CW, due to the cartoon eyes looking ridiculous next to the others. But I do collect the troopers from CW still, since they're heads are covered anyways. I love me some troopers, what can I say...

I sometimes wonder whether TLG deliberately underengineer models so there is always room for improvement on the next wave. The old Tie looks abysmal next to the new version (which looks amazing). You also have scope for hardly improved models with a different mix of accompanying figures. SW Lego will be here a very long time.

There aren't many sets that haven't been done at least once at this point from the films, the main expansion here once clone wars cartoon finishes is the expanded universe fuelled by books and video games, but will they be as iconic as the stuff from the films? I think not. Not sure about the sandcrawler, not exactly chomping at the bit to get that one. UCS AT-AT is a must have though, maybe UCS Slave I too? I think TLG will try to include minifigs with UCS srts whenever possible, which may exclude future UCS sets of smaller craft.

I think UCS Slave 1 should do well, so long as it isn't priced like Obiwans Starfighter.

There are actually quite a few things from the movies that have yet to be done in Lego. Where is our Nebulon B frigate?

^Indeed. And we could definitely use models like the Lucrehulk-class (Trade Federation ) Battleship or a C-9979 Landing Craft (that would actually work with the MTT).
