How often do Lego Ideas sets get released?

I was just wondering with the release of the Research Institute and the Exosuit recently, how often will Lego release a Lego Ideas approved set?

I thought the latest program update said three times a year

The double whammy was a bit unusual as the Exo suit was approved several cycles back but kept getting delayed for whatever reason. Come to think of it, releasing both at once could have had something to do with the limited stock - they may have had to share the production capacity between both sets

Now that they are "caught up", I expect they will stick more rigidly to the three times per year

the review cycle is 3 times a year (next one starts in September I believe) however there hasn't been a solid time frame for sets passing review. the exo suit was the longest by far, while the RI was shorter by far (most take 6-9months RI did it in about 4, Exo more than a year)

Considering how fast Exo and RI sold, I wonder if Lego will try to speed up the process for other sets nearing 10k or in review now?

It is the review that is three times a year. New releases each time are not garanteed.

It depends if anything gets approved. Like from the last batch none of the ideas were approved, so it is not as automatic as releasing new sets three times a year. If none of the models match their criteria and fit their business model, there will be no new sets.

My guess is that if that happens more than a couple of times per review period they will tighten up the program, update their requirements, etc., to make sure that models that get voted on do actually have the potential of becoming LEGO sets.

I didn't realise this, what were the sets under review? I thought the Research Institute came from the last review wave.

The last review included Adventure Time, BTTF UCS DeLorean, Japanese Architecture, Legend of Zelda, Macross, and Sherlock. Female Minifigures was carried over from the previous review, which also included ATLAS, FTL, Ghostbusters (x2), Poptropica, and Wizard of Oz.
