Lego UCS Tumbler-Batman

Why so serious? Because Batman's most intimidating Batmobile ever is getting the LEGO treatment.

A LEGO Tumbler, the Caped Crusader's black armored vehicle of choice in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight movie trilogy, will be on display at Comic-Con this week beginning Wednesday. Following the pop-culture convention, which runs through July 27, the Tumbler toy (1,869 pieces, $199) goes on sale at LEGO stores and shop.LEGO.com in September.

Measuring 15 inches tall and 9 inches wide, the LEGO Tumbler has an armored exterior, adjustable wings, a detailed interior (with a console screen that reads "INTIMIDATE") and oversized rubber-tread tires. It also comes with a fact sheet about the vehicle from the movies.

If you're into character mini-figures, the stars of the set are a Christian Bale-styled Batman and the Joker, the first time Heath Ledger's The Dark Knight take on the villain has appeared in LEGO form.

Thanks @just2good for the news, definitely had to be posted here. This model is fantastic, I can already hear my wallet crying but this is certainly a day one buy. Them figures are fantastic and I am so glad that the rumour proved to be true, a Heath Ledger Joker!!

This is the exact set I hoped for after watching the dark knight rises, but instead LEGO came out with a super lame Bane's tumblr.

Hmmm, I think this ones a pass for me. I can't put my finger on exactly what it is about it, but it just looks very messy to me. Sure plenty of people will love it, but not for me...which is probably just so well with all the sets I do want at the mo!

Well, I was working on designing a UCS tumbler, but I might as well quit now.

    An absolutely beautiful model!

The minifigs that are too small for the set being on the stand is a nice touch, wish the SW UCS's would get the same treatment when they're not of a scale to accommodate a minifig inside. Sept will be an expensive month with that and the SW UCS set.

Awesome design. I'm sure a lot of people will be very pleased. I wonder who the designer was. Marcos Bessa perhaps?

Technic fans are gonna LOVE those tires! And Super Heroes fans will probably be very happy to get a TDK version of Batman that's neither grey nor an insanely expensive Comic-Con exclusive. His face looks new to me — I wonder if it will be showing up in other sets.

If this set could deploy the Bat-Pod then it'd be PERFECT. But I guess if that were going to be the case, the USA Today article would mention it.

So glad they are not selling these at SDCC. I would hate to drag this bad boy around at the exhibit floor. The minifigures are a lovely bonus. Well done Lego.

I'm speechless. If I threw a ton of black plates at a toilet roll covered in double sided sticky tape, this is exactly how it would look.

As much as I love the Tumblr and UCS sets, I'd want to see this in person before plunking down $200. The main reason are all the studs — I think it goes against the stealthy nature of the Tumbler. It's probably impossible to do it any other way through. How cool would it be if they gave us MATTE black parts for this :D

(Also, the Mini Cooper and Exo-Suit will be putting a dent in my wallet as is stands)

I really love the Joker minifig, and being an Aussie I kinda feel I must have it.

Man, that Joker minifig is going to be hot...

I believe the front hubs in the tumbler are the same ones that the 42000 uses in the rear suspension... They are just gold colored...

All i can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just seems like the tumbler was perfectly designed to look good recreated in lego form.

Even the treads on the tires are accurate!

And having measured the dimensions out on a table this thing is gunna be a beast!

Well, the front tires' tread is accurate. The back tires just use the same tread design as #42030 Volvo L350F Wheel Loader, another of this year's sets. Not that I'm complaining. Introducing two new tire molds for a set like this would probably be overkill.

Looking at that interior just makes me want to sit inside it. Joker maybe an early front runner for minifigure of the year.

    Why? I'll tell you why...

For some reason I have never really been all that interested in the Tumbler, it just doesn't do it for me, horses for courses and all that, so I've never been bothered about the build up for it's release in UCS form.

In fact, i was somewhat relieved (understandably) that a big ticket model wasn't going to be clawing at my wallet. So when I saw the UCS reveal on the frontpage, once again - whilst appreciating the excellent design - I relaxed, still blissfully happy that this still wasn't on my 'to buy' list at all. Not one bit. No way. Don't need it. Got a regular sized one. I'm happy... yessiree.

So anyway, i just had a spare second, so figured I'd pop in to read the dedicated thread and enjoy the buzz.

Whereupon I saw for the first time: Heath Ledger's Joker.

With the UCS Tumbler?! (A veritable string of expletives issued forth like never before).

    Oh, Lego. YOUUUUUUUUUU. BA-bleeeep-RDS.

Gotta hand it to TLG on this one! This UCS set may be on the shelves longer than the Death Star.

To coin Commissioner Gordon: "I gotta get me one of these!"
  • CircleKCircleK Member Posts: 1,055
If we are being honest though... It has some bad angles. It sort of looks like a mess of bricks in the last picture posted. I've decided to revoke insta-buy status until I can see it in the brick.

The figs are going to go high dollar, which will be nice for those who are just interested in the tumbler. You will probably be able to recoup 25% + just by selling the figs.

That is a bit...messy. Legoboy's comment made me laugh and it's not far from my opinion...guess that's to be expected with all the angles the actual tumbler has (here is a picture in case anyone isn't familiar with the indie films...don't think many people got to see them):

    image

Will have to wait to see it in person, but for now I think I like the previous smaller version better :-o

Funny thing The Dark Knight movie was just on TNT or TBS as I was watching it when my wife tells me she had seen the Lego post on FaceBook, so I turned to Brickset to confirm. I am sure that when all the details are revealed a lot of those on the fence will be jumping off to get one.

Looks cool. But a bit messy due to those odd jutting pieces around the hood. Not a must buy for me. I actually think the Ultra Agents "Tumbler" is an all around better looking model even if it copied the stylings of the Batman vehicle.
  • AdeelZubairAdeelZubair Member Posts: 2,703
The minifiures are great however the Batman has a different bat logo on the chest when this model is based off The Dark Knight trilogy when it clearly has the Dark Knight logo on the information plaque; don't know what's going on there?

Slightly Off Topic (and with potential to briefly derail until chat comes back to Tumbling UCS lego sets), but I have just realised and, therefore, decided for the whole world (sorry it's taken so long, I know you've all been waiting), but no need to debate the subject on the internet any longer... the result is in.

    Right, carry on 'Tumbling'.
