Found a Rancor Pit for $40 at west side Madison, WI walmart but that was about it. Tons of annoyingly deceptive full price red stickers, though...

Just starting to see some real clearance at Wal mart here (New Berlin, WI) but its only about 25%. Really hoping I could get some more cheap Lego sets as I'm starting a Lego club at our school.....so far all the donations have come out of my own pocket, but I got some good clearance deals at Target. The problem is that it seems that Walmart marks prices down once and that's it.....it doesn't seem to get lower like Target does (at least around here).

@dannyrww Since you are trying to get them for school, approach the toy department manager and let them know that. Ask if there is any better discount possible, especially if you buy in bulk. Invite him or her to the LEGO club meeting to see what the kids are doing with the LEGO. You never know what might happen.

^Also try the brand store. They do sometimes give display sets away for "educational" uses to schools or churches. Maybe have the principal call them? Otherwise, they are instructed to throw those sets away, I was told. TLG doesn't want to encourage "shrinkage" they say. Whatever and such a waste.

^ I'm pretty sure the store sets get broken down and sent back to the community team for distribution as bulk parts used by LUG events. It used to go to the grab bags but they changed it last year.

Edit: or at least in the US I believe this is the case.

Stopped by a nearby Walmart earlier, and I saw the Lego Movie Ice Cream Machine on the clearance table...for $29.97.

    Boo.

That was my understanding as well...at least that was my impression based on what our last support package looked like.

that's pretty much the case where I live also.

I just cannot stand the new red/white combo price tags. It looks like everything is on clearance, kind of. I'm just getting used to the 97 cents thing.
  • VaderXVaderX Member Posts: 220
They are rolling back those prices !!!!!! 3 cents ROLLBACK!.... I remember watching the horrible adds many years back when I watched T.V.

#2 reason why I don't shop at Walmart more than once a year.

Billionaires new brilliant idea to trick people into thinking they are saving money...

If its on clearance it must be cheaper RIGHT? They have dedicated clearance section for all these amazing deals.

My Wal-Mart had those and the Sith set for $6.50 on clearance. I saw them and went to look at some other things and they were gone when I got back.

never leave lego by themselves. they have tendency to jump into cart. so when you see them @ 50off better put them into yours :P before they jump into someone else

The last two years I have have very good luck with clearance sales in my area. This year has really been a game changer. Before clearance Lego would sit at 50% untouched for months. I would literally have managers calling me asking when I could come get the stuff . This year I have walked into several stores passing people with carts full of sets. 10% off sets have been flying off the shelves . I have bought about 1/3 this year compared to the previous two years. Times are a changing.

Over the last year, I don't think that I've spent 10% of what I've spent at WM in years past. I don't know whether they got better at inventory management and aren't ending up with as many sets to clearance or have just decided not to do deep clearances on Lego, but WM is definitely not the retail outlet that it used to be for Lego.

@Thanos75‌ welcome to everyone else's walmart world :)

Judging by the comments that I used to see on this board and elsewhere, my experience was hardly unique in the past. There may be areas that sold more or stocked less and, as a result, didn't have a lot of inventory for clearance sales, but WM's clearance sales used to be company-wide as far as I could tell.

LotR Black Gates are $29. Don't trust the the web app for stock levels. Only the price. I found six at one store that said that they were out of stock.

Picked one up Sat. Seems to be the only "deal" so far.

Well, with the success of The LEGO Movie, people are buying up LEGO all they can. Plus, with so many things in the news about how much they go for in the aftermarket, casual people are buying into LEGO thinking they have the next UCS set on their hands (they don't, btw). So stores probably don't have enough inventory to clearance. They may run sales occassionally (here, very rarely) but I never see clearance when I look. At least, not clearance that is actual clearance prices. 5% off isn't clearance to me...
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,728
found four $29 Black Gates today. I bought the two without green silly string goo all over the boxes. Also found a Ninjago Destiny Bounty ship ringing up at regular price but the end was re-taped so I left it alone.

I think it is also important to remember that after the recession many places switched to just in time inventory. The glut of inventory that places were left with and had to clearance out just does not happen as frequently anymore. Places like Walmart have also reduced the size of their Lego aisle. They have also transitioned to more of a 'discount once' model and then either push items back to full price or move it off the shelves.
So, yes, stores do not have enough inventory to have clearances like they used to, but in large part because they learned the lesson of not carrying huge inventory.
It is true, though, that sales recovered, so yes, people are buying more Lego as well.

I'm really bummed about the Black Gate sets. At our WM there were three on a paltry 5% clearance for months and months. I must have scanned them twenty times in the last six months, the last time being a week ago. Then I hear about the new price late Sunday night, drive out before work and of course they're all gone!

Oh well, win some lose some!

I found a big box of poly bags at Wal-Mart today. They were marked down to $.50 each. There were four different sets....the lone ranger push cart....star wars Umbrian Tank....little creator black car and the friends picnic set. Nothing fancy but still a good deal. I ended up only picking up a couple of each. I thought about getting more but since they had the clearance price sticker on them they ended up being a pain in the butt at check out.

2 dol guldor battles for $27 each at my local wallyworld today. Score!!
  • thenosthenos Member Posts: 444
    At a local Walmart #75020 for $49, #10665 for $5.50.
  • ShpadoinkleShpadoinkle Member Posts: 420
A few days ago a person on reddit mentioned the #75020 being clearanced for $49 at his store. Sounds like it could be a nationwide clearance price!
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,728
^might have to make a Walmart run then... see you later work and obligations!
  • 501501 Member Posts: 13
#75020 for $50 and #79007 for $29 at my local store.
  • pharmjodpharmjod Member Posts: 2,916
Managed to find #75020 @ $49, #79007 @ $29, #76001 @ $29 and #3188 @ $44.99 at the same Walmart tonight, so not a wasted trip. The #3188 wasn't in the system and when I had someone look it up it showed $44.99. I found one for $20 months ago at the same store, but I wasn't going to argue over it. MSRP for a set that has largely been gone for close to a year is fine.
  • ryjayryjay Member Posts: 1,004

Walmart is messed up. There was a large cart with several sets that were on clearance. They had a #79003 Unexpected Gathering for $69.99. Several other sets had that red & white clearance price sticker, but they were full retail. I think it is a great idea to display products that you wish to move quickly in high-traffic areas. However, pushing them as clearance seems deceptive.

Walmart does this a lot. If you notice, when they do it, they dont say on that "clearance" sticker the original price, with the "now" price, they only show the one "retail" price. Often, even when you phone scan it, the walmart.com price is less then the sticker price in the store. Managers will give you the on line price, but its no great deal.

Checked out my local Wallyworld this morning. There were a few of the sets mentioned here, but the best deals were probably the following Chima sets:

#70008 Gorzans Gorilla Striker for 29.
#70009 Worriz Combat Lair for 29.

I bought one of the combat Lairs for parts.

I decided to check out our local Wal-Mart to see if I could find any of the deals mentioned. At ours they seem pretty aggressive about their clearance as they had it all spread out on several tables in the garden section.
I did find the Black Gate mentioned above as well as 2 #70401 (Gold Getaway) sticker said $13.97 - rung up at $7.00, #79003 (An Unexpected Gathering) no clearance sticker but rung up at $33.00, and #60014 (Coast Guard Patrol) sticker said $59.99, rung up at $40.00.

The new CMFs are out already? I thought they were dropping in October ?

That's what I thought too. That's why I was so surprised to see a box. I was tempted to buy the whole thing but just did the feel method to get a full set...but grabbed a few extras like the wizard and princess.

Actually I've heard of stores sometimes breaking the street date.

if you are into chima sets then discount are great on these. these would be of value if you are into parting out or building yourself.

future appreciation for these sets are going to be questionable.

The Walmart app told me Battle of Smallville was $20 at a different walmart. Went to it, didn't find anything, got hit by a car that blew a stop sign 3 blocks from my house. -$500 walmart run. :(

Also got 75020 for $49. It was marked at $88.xx :)

I see people are finding #75020 Jabbas Sail Barge for $49. Anyone find any Hobbit Forest Ambush for that price? Curious. I visited my grandma about an hour away almost 2 weeks ago and there were 3 on the clearance shelves for $74ea.
  • thenosthenos Member Posts: 444
