After returning to the office from a few days of leave this morning look what was waiting for me.

I would like to get Rocket too, but as I'm only interested in the minifig and not the set I think I'll wait to see if it comes out in a regular set (fingers crossed).

Thanks for all the comments on here its been really great fun and very informative reading them.

My twin brother ordered a SDCC Unikitty online and it arrived recently. We're waiting to watch what happens to the price before opening it. If it gets to the point where opened ones go for a higher price than he paid for a sealed one then he says he'll open it without hesitation.

Funny, #79017 will include two originally SDCC released minifigs. :P

@Aanchir I would be scared to build Unikitty, especially after all of the brick cracking fun we have had this year.

I haven't had any experience with 1x3 bricks and plates cracking, and since those are the only parts of the exclusive Unikitty that are actually "exclusive" I don't think I have much to fear in that regard. Other than the decorated 1x3 bricks and plates for the face, all the other parts are the same as the ones in Unikitty from #70803 Cloud Cuckoo Palace.

I'm glad that TLG are starting to bring out the SDCC figs in sets - Green Lantern for example. The secondary market pricing of these figs is ridiculous and just encourages bootlegs. If anything there should be exclusive packaging for the SDCC stuff for the hard out collectors, but that's it.

Like people have been asking for years now, make the fig, but you can keep the exclusivity by changing the outfit...which is what they did w/ the set releasing next year.

I fell that way as well, but there are some people who insist that the SDCC versions of characters like Shazam and Phoenix are the quintessential depictions of those characters and that a new version would not suffice. Still, in my opinion, the LEGO Group wouldn't even necessarily have to change the costumes to release a new fig — after all, the LEGO Group has released multiple versions of characters like Han Solo that ostensibly depict the same outfit despite having new or different prints for every part of his wardrobe.
